“A great deal with a generous selection of seafood!”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed August 10, 2012

I have visited this restaurant a couple of times over the years and it seems like the quality of the food has gone down in recent visits. Although they still offer a great selection of fresh seafood, there seems to be more grease on the food than before. This time we went for lunch and found out that they do not open a minute early! Check times before you make the trip!

The menu is very limited for picky kids, my son ordered fried chicken and it was soaked in oil, however he did find it tasty. Other family members ordered whole fish and a small stuffed "corvina" which was huge despite the "small" size label. Also ordered a traditional ceviche as an appetizer and it was also good. I ordered a half portion of rice with shrimp and it was OK, lacked seasoning and it was served in an overstuffed small plate. Desserts are very limited and of course like all Costa Rican restaurants, there are no free refills on drinks. I ordered a natural drink and had to ask for an additional glass of water because it was overly sweet, so I sort of did get my refill. :)

The waiter was pleasant, answered our questions properly and was always on time despite that he had like half the restaurant to serve. All in all is a descent place for a casual lunch if you are in the mood for seafood at a fair price.

“Yum!”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed April 10, 2012

My family and I have been going to this restaurant for the past 10 years and have never had a bad experience. This is one of the best seafood restaurants in Costa Rica that isn't located right next to a beach. This isn't a dressy/formal restaurant, more like jeans and t-shirts but the food is really good. Try the fish or shrimp ceviche and the shrimp scampi is phenomenal (served with rice, french fries and side salad) - I mean, how can you go wrong with butter, garlic and shrimp? The fish and seafood are really fresh, servers are nice and efficient, food doesn't take long even on a very busy night and always served piping hot. We prefer sitting outside since it can get noisy inside but you can let them kids go look at the fish tanks. If you can't make it to the beach and are craving some great seafood, this is the place.

“Fodors was wrong! Food is not good.”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed November 27, 2011

We checked out Mariscos based upon our Fodors book recommendation, even ordering what Fodors suggested, and boy was the food off - I mean way off! The fish was drowned in beshemal sauce (had I known I would have asked for it on the side); and the plaintains were overfried. Definitely not the best meal we had in Santa Barbara.
