“Disappointing service.”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed June 18, 2013

As we were very much looking forward to this lunch out, living locally, we were and are very disappointed.

9th June 2013.

Sunday lunch, reserved table of of eight. We had ordered six fish and chips, five portions being children. When the food arrived we asked for tarter sauce and catchup (not unusual request to a fish and chips order, one would think) The restaurant was not full and we had to chase down our waitress and the girl at the bar, asking again for the tarter sauce & catchup, whilst they chatted.
We received a small ramequin of tarter sauce which was enough for one person. Therefor we ask again and was told "oh we thought it was just for you in snide manner" we were served a large portion of tarter sauce but by then everyone had finished their food. Good food, nice charming country pub atmosphere, lovely location, park for children and outdoor seating. Service very disappointing and pique. As we live locally and the food and location is wonderful for families, it is very unfortunate that we no longer want to regular this pub.

Unhelpful staff.

My friends and I have just spent five days in the beautiful village of Paxford, staying at 1 Manor Lodge Cottage (highly recommended!). Every day we have been here we have eaten breakfast, lunch, and/or dinner at The Churchill Arms. We have found the food and service to be excellent, and we can't recommend it highly enough.

We have tried almost every item on the menu, from fish, to lamb, pork, and steak, as well as their wonderful Sunday Roast, and we have enjoyed every meal. The vegetables are fresh and prepared superbly. And, the desserts are to-die-for.

The restaurant is managed by a wonderful young lady named Victoria. She runs a tight ship--but it is a friendly and accommodating ship. We will be forever grateful for her help, whether it was explaining what blood pudding is or helping us navigate the public footpaths near Paxford. She was always smiling, helpful, and friendly.

We HIGHLY recommend The Churchill Arms.

This pub is good– nice food and a lovely old pub atmosphere. Nice to be in a pub that is both a mix of tourists and locals. The sticky toffee pudding was a winner. Only improvement could be in the area of service which was a little slow and blasé at times

We visited the Churchill Arms on a gorgeous summer's evening, hoping to enjoy the best that the Cotswolds has to offer. Unfortunately, we left feeling hungry (terribly small portions), dejected (ignored for most of the time we were 'in the room') having been left to fend for ourselves in terms of being served a drink (we only had one round as we weren't at any stage of the evening offered a more than that!).
The 'manager' spent most of his time on his mobile, either surfing the net or calling up friends! Whilst another colleague spent much time pampering a small 'hand bag' dog, which was allowed to walk and sit on the bar and was then placed on a dining table whilst it's owners ordered their own (very small portioned) dinner! I wonder what a health inspector would make of that??!
Very poor quality steak - I asked for Medium but it was served rare. I would have mentioned this to the staff, but no one bothered to come and ask if 'everything was alright with the meal'. We had to walk to the bar to ask for some sauces to go with the side dishes we'd ordered and gave up once we'd finished our mains.. sat with 3 empty glasses, you thought that they might noticed we perhaps would like another round? Too much effort clearly!
It's a shame, because the setting is lovely. They weren't busy, with only half the tables filled, so we could only assume that they don't 'have to try very hard' to get people in the door. Not much competition to drive up standards in Paxford is there.
But, I know one things for sure, we won't be visiting again - as the lazy attitude of the staff sent us running for those gorgeous Cotswold hills - for good!

A quick weekend break demanded a comforatble country pub environment & The Churchill Arms didn't disappoint !, ok the accommodation is a little basic but with a lovely view of the tiny church & countryside beyond.
Well positioned for touring the surrounding villages & within striking distance for a good walk around the Blenheim Palace estate.
Dinner was delicious, we met family at the Pub for dinner on the Sunday night & had truly triffic evening !
Well done - we'll be back !

Room Tip: There is one tiny room - I think 3 so try to avoid being booked into this one.

My girlfriend and I recently spent a couple of nights of nights here over the Easter weekend and thoroughly enjoyed our experience. Our room was tidy, clean and comfortable with a wonderful view of the charming little church in the field opposite. All of the staff were extremely friendly and helpful and the food was absolutely superb. I booked a table at The Swan in Broadway on the first night because I had eaten there before. Whilst we enjoyed our meals there, our evening meals at The Churchill were far better. To be honest, I wish we`d had both dinners at this pub instead! I`d highly recommend this pub to anyone wanting to stay in this area and, geographically, it`s fabulous being so close to places like Chipping Campden, Hidcote, Snowshill and Stanton. Staying at this pub was a real highlight.

Room Tip: The large double room over-looking the church and field is lovely.

I was visiting the Cotswold with a friend, and we decided to have a nice country pub lunch. We found that The Churchill Arms was a very well recommended pub in the area, and we decided to try it.
I have to say we were disappointed on the portion sizes, we both ordered a meat pie, which was quite nice (but not spectacular) but in a portion that was more of a "snack" size than a main lunch course.
The price was quite high for what we got, as we ended up paying around £25 each for a starter, a main, and a pint of ale, feeling still hungry after the lunch.

I don't give it a "terrible" mark because the service was ok, the pub is nice and the food quality is ok, but it is very bad value for money, as at the end it is just pub food that you can get in a lot of other country pubs for a fraction of the price and in much larger portions.
