“Great warm welcome!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed October 22, 2013 via mobile

My husband and I found ourselves stumbling upon this pub whilst looking for somewhere to stay last minute. We arrived at 8pm and were glad of the lovely open fire to warm ourselves whilst checking in! The staff were incredibly helpful, they can't do enough for you! We were shown to our room and informed of breakfast arrangements. Then we headed into the pub for a lovely light meal in the form of the sharing platter starter, it was delicious and well presented, it was washed down with the beer named after the pub (which I highly recommend). The staff even rescued me and my phobic husband from a rather large uninvited spider in our room! We were mesmerized by the walls of racing heritage, you could stay there all day going through it all! The experience was topped off by a generous cooked breakfast served by a very attentive waitress. In short we really enjoyed our time here and recommend it highly to everyone, all will be warmly received no doubt!

What a fantastic review. Thank you so much for taking the time to write about your stay with us. Everything you have mentioned is just as a stay away from home should be in our opinion and it's lovely to hear you agree. We would love to welcome you back in the future. Hugh

We recently had a three-night stay at the Hollow Bottom. Mine hosts Hugh and Charlie couldn't have made us more welcome. The meals were gorgeous, beautifully presented -
Sunday lunch was delightful.
The staff were excellent and very attentive.

We loved the racing theme and the fact that so many locals used the facilities regularly it gave the country pub a great atmosphere. We would recommend Hollow Bottom. From: F and J E Sykes, Driffield East Yorkshire.

If you love proper horse racing (National Hunt) then this place is a dream. Only found it by chance when browsing for a dog friendly b & b and well WOW. The walls are covered with Grand National and Cheltenham memories and apparently the previous owner is now a very successful trainer based locally. The bedrooms are all named after racehorses and we stayed in Mrs Muck ( i kid you not!!) which was very clean and ideal for our requirements and our dog. Food was exceptional during our 2 day stay (Tiger prawns special starter in garlic butter a delight) and the staff were a pleasure to deal with. Lots of local walks if you take your dog with you, Certainly on the' must visit again' list

Room Tip: Mrs Muck room is directly above the main bar area. If you are worried about too much noise ask for a...

I could rate the Hollow Bottom much higher, but for the cobwebs. We loved the staff, the food, and the atmosphere of the pub. Unfortunately there were cobwebs everywhere (we had the annex room). Too bad because we would rate Hollow Bottom 4-5 stars otherwise.

Thank you for your review, what a shame that a few fresh cobwebs meant you held back from a 5 star review to give us just a 3, especially as you "loved" the staff, food and atmosphere. We are based in the middle of the glorious English countryside and it is difficult to keep the little blighters away at certain times of the year! Our staff work hard to keep The Hollow Bottom up to it's four star standard and the rooms are cleaned thoroughly every morning. I have today held a meeting with Shelob king of the spiders and he assured me that he and the troops, will stay away should you decide to return! Hugh

Here from Australia and stumbled across Hollow Bottom. What a brilliant find! The owners and the girls Katie, Fiona, Noel and Ellie went above and beyond to make our stay so lovely. The food that came out of the kitchen for dinner and breakfast was scrumptious. Don't miss the opportunity to stop in at Hollow Bottom, my absolute favourite B & B. Thanks for the memories that we will take home with us to Adelaide.

Thanks from Jane and Ross

We really loved The Hollow Bottom, the staff were very friendly and welcoming, nothing was too much trouble, the food was absolutely delicious, I would definitely recommend the Venison - it was first class, compliments to the chef. We stayed for 2 nights in Earth Summit, which was so clean and inviting and had absolutely everything we needed. Guiting Power village was so peaceful and quiet, our weekend was much more relaxed than anticipated, we didn't want to leave! Cannot wait to go back to the Hollow Bottom, maybe try the Pigeon next time!

Stayed on a hot July weekend with family. Booked two rooms which were both on the small side but well kitted out and tasteful with all you could need - including good coffee with a cafetiere. Great bathrooms with modern showers and fittings. This is a popular pub with locals and more, making for a hearty atmosphere and there will be some hubbub at night, but either join in or take an extra drink to help you sleep. Breakfast and food was well thought out, but the best part of the stay is the staff, who work hard with a great attitude. The village of Guiting Power is a gem too. Lots of walking in varied landscapes and well off the beaten Cotswold path.

Room Tip: Only a handful of rooms, but the two we had were well decorated and laid out.
