“TOTALLY DISAPPOINTED”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed January 25, 2014

We recently spent 15 nights camping here and found the caravan park extremely run down. The most disappointing aspect of the park was the unhygienic state of the toilet near the ensuite sites. The toilets never smelt fresh, there were constant paper and wrappers lying on the floor and the sanitary bin lids were always partially opened emitting a disgraceful odour. Add this to toilet paper running out, the smell of urine, often luke warm water in the showers, the unbearable noise coming from the shower heads, constant leaking taps, unclean basins and lengths of paint lying on the floor (stripped from the recently painted doors, which came off like contact paper) and one would wonder if this was the source of my daughter, myself and others contracting a gastro bug. Even after the toilets were cleaned you never walked in and thought "Gee how much better does that look." I must compliment the park on giving us access to an ensuite to contain the spread of gastro and they did say we could use it as long as need be. Thank you for the understanding and helpful manner you approached this. Apart from the toilets being disgraceful the gardens have been let go. Several dead trees still stand, dead palm frons have not been removed, garden beds need weeding and bark replacing. Positives were the staff were friendly and the beach is beautiful and easily accessible (only a few minutes walk). Would I stay there again - No definitely not in peak season and not until it is tidied up; would I recommend it to others - No. Have stayed at several caravan parks along the east coast and this would rate the worst in our opinion in its current state. Several others camping and using cabins also had the same complaints as myself and those who have commented before me. Obviously these problems are not new and need to be addressed urgently; such a shame as 10 years ago this caravan park was a delight and the toilets were the cleanest we had come across.

Your feedback is very much appreciated. Ingenia Communities acquired One Mile Beach Holiday Park in December. Our approach to date has been to allow the parks we acquire to continue "business as usual" during the first month after acquisition.

Please accept our sincere apologies, we are working with our staff to review the cleaning roster and procedures, with a focus on improving standards especially during peak periods.

As we have mentioned previously we intend to invest heavily in the park and restore it to it's former status this includes significant plans to upgrade the amenities, facilities as well as a refurbishment program for our cabins.

We look forward to welcoming you back once our upgrade has taken place. If you would care to contact me directly on 1800 650 035, I would like the opportunity to discuss this matter further with you.

Positives-
* very close to beach
* lots of things for kids to do though facilities are tired.

Negatives-
* 2 bedroom villa. (Owners need to just call them 2 bedroom cabins) bit misleading.

*no back on DVD remote, no batteries in it.

*kitchen would have been nice 15 years ago. Grill broken, no chopping board to prepare food, furnishings outdated, range hood really greasy and dirty.

Floors were dirty upon arrival, toilet absolutely reeked of urine!! Had to leave door closed and exhaust fan on and window open for entire weekend. Not sure if cleaners are aware toilet seats sometimes need to be taken off so the grime underneath can be cleaned otherwise they will always stink. Maybe every 3 months get down on your hands and knees and get into the corners with bleach and a scrubbing brush as corners were full of filthy black grime and pubic hair from years of Pushing a mop into the corners. Tiles were mouldy.

*Every now and again u need to open an air conditioner and take out the "removable" filters and wash them, that way it runs better and smells better. Please don't leave it up to guests paying over $240 a night to do.

Boards on porch were coming up.

Lots of empty cabins in peak season, which was really strange.

*premium prices for poor facilities really. It's a shame the amenities haven't been upgraded every time the price has.

I noticed a previous reply to another bad review on trip advisor from the new owners blaming GFC flow on effect for the run down facilities. Fair enough that may well be the case. Maybe upon check in these new owners could say "we have just taken over in peak season, the place is a bit run down, but here's 10% off the price of your stay to show our good faith in your return business"

We are a young family looking for a place to come annually for the next 20 years or more and I'm sad to say that somewhere else will be getting our future business.

Please accept our sincere apologies that your stay did not live up to your expectations.

Ingenia Communities acquired One Mile Beach Holiday Park in December 2013 and we appreciate the time you have taken to write this review. Ingenia Communities welcomes feedback in particular with our recent purchase and your feedback will certainly be taken into consideration in our future plans and management of the park.

We are excited about the opportunities that exist ahead of One Mile Beach Holiday Park, we certainly do have significant plans to upgrade facilities as well as a refurbishment program for our cabins.

In relation to the cleanliness, our intention, despite the age of the cabins is to always present these in a clean and tidy fashion. Clearly on this occasion this did not happen, for these we sincerely apologise. As a priority we will review our cleaning practices with your cabin during your stay.

We look forward to welcoming you back once our upgrade has taken place. If you would care to contact me directly on 1800 650 035, we would like the opportunity to discuss this matter further with you.

We have been camping at OMB for over 20 years. The location of the beach to the camping grounds is perfect. The beach is patrolled daily & the beach & surrounding National Park allow for wonderful walks. Unfortunately though the holiday park has deteriorated over several years. The amenities are very poorly maintained & cleaned. Eg toilet paper runs out frequently, showers continually drip, barely hot water in showers, showers scream when turned on. At our campsite the lantana had to be trimmed from fence line again, we have done this & requested this be done on previous years. At the weekends the garbage bins are surrounded by rubbish as they are not emptied. The gardens, which once were attractive, have been allowed to be overrun by weeds etc. No pruning or tidying has been done for years. Basically the facilities have not been updated for years. This year the bathrooms were given a 'paint makeover'. As a result of a very substandard job the paint is coming off in sheets. Several years ago we began to bring our own barbque as the barbques provided were, & still are, totally inadequate in every way. We have continued to return because of its location, however, this year we are reconsidering.

The management and staff at One Mile Beach value and invite all feedback from guests. We thank guests for all of their postings. We would however like to put some perspective into recent posts.
As a direct result of the flow on effect of the GFC, the previous owners were unable to maintain the required level of capital expenditure needed to keep pace with market expectations.
Hence they are the previous owners.
We acknowledge the fact that there is work that needs to be done around the park.

The current owners took possession of the park on the 19 Dec 2013, 6 days before the Christmas peak season, and as yet, have not had the opportunity to address any of these issues.
Preliminary discussions with incoming senior management has indicated that addressing these issues is high on their priority list.
The staff at One Mile have worked diligently under very difficult circumstances with limited access to resources in an endeavour to provide a quality holiday experience to in excess of 100k guests over this last calendar year. I congratulate them for the work they have done under these conditions.
We would like to thank all our guests for their understanding and patience, and we are confident that their ongoing loyalty will be rewarded with this new opportunity to return One Mile to it's former award winning status.

Only stayed here for 1 night which was enough! Very close to the beach which was nice but just a bit boring. Amenities were poor lots of dead bugs in the sinks & lots of ants crawling in the showers. Could do with spending a little bit of money & updating facilities a bit. Don't think I would return.

We enjoyed an ensuite site at One Mile Beach Holiday Park, and it had the best shower I have enjoyed of any park/hotel I have stayed in. The staff were friendly, the property neat and tidy, and the possums delightful. I would definitely stay at this property again! (also worth trying the cafe next door to the park)

Check in was quick and simple. Staff were happy and helpful. We had a Deluxe 2br Villa that was clean and comfortable. Disappointment was having to make all the beds and the blankets were really dusty. The facilities are great. Kids LOVED the pool with slide, basket ball, table tennis, tennis and mini golf. 1 minute walk to the beach. Great area to explore with many beaches and bays. Another downside was paid wifi that didn't work in our cabin and the terrible phone reception.
All in all, I'm still tossing up the pros and cons compared to price, however, we did have a very enjoyable mini holiday here and would consider returning. Male staff member was really happy, helpful & friendly throughout our stay, which does add a plus to making a holiday enjoyable. Thanks,

We stayed in what was advertised as a 4.5 star luxury spa villa. If Basil Fawlty had appeared in the main office I wouldn't have been surprised. While the position is great we arrived to find 2 of the 3 beds unmade, discovered the room was not serviced and the accommodation was 3 star if I was being incredibly generous although the price was a premium. A whole lot of small things added up to make the 'luxury' tag an absolute lie. The light switches in the bathroom were all wired wrongly so turning on the fan turned on the heater etc, there was a bare minimum of furniture and no special touches, the kettle leaked when you poured it, there were dead flies by the bed in the main room, if you want a clean towel it will cost you $2 at the main office, there were no free to air TV stations and only a few fuzzy Foxtel channels which were unwatchable, no tissues in the entire place, only 3 of the 4 jets in the spa worked...I could keep going on. The clincher was when we were rung on the afternoon of our checkout and told that we had not checked out or left our key. When asked if they had checked the early departure key box the answer was 'err no'. While everyone can have a bad day and no facility is perfect, sadly this is a deceitfully advertised holiday park where service is average at best and the facilities nowhere near the quality promised. Would I stay there again? Never. Would I let anyone I know stay there? Never.
