Julio is amazing, he is what really makes the Majes River Lodge so wonderful!! Though the fact that it is in an incredible setting with lots of wonderful things to explore doesnt hurt either! Plus the food and drinks are great, Durby is a wonderful cook and Julio makes an amazing Pisco Sour with his own Pisco!!
I spent 3 days with Julio doing a great number of things....River rafting, fishing, hiking in the desert, visiting the Toro Muerto petroglyphs, going the 'Jurassic Park' to see the dinosaur footprints, practicing my espanol (Julio speaks great English but is definitely willing to help you with your Spanish!), and much more!! It was a wonderful experience that was largely due to the amazing hospitality Julio and Durby offered us!
As far as the lodge itself goes. It is fairly basic but still really nice - the room have private bathrooms and decent beds etc. There is a central swimming pool which we didnt use as the water wasnt the cleanest and the river is much nicer and close by. However, the pool is great to lay in the sun by. There is also a great indoor and outdoor dining room and a couple hammocks that are great for relaxing in!
Overall, I really enjoyed my time at the lodge and can not wait to return - hopefully sometime in the coming year!! Staying there was incredibly relaxing, even though as far as activities we did quite a bit!
