“Amazing Wayanad .. Awesome Raincountry..!”

"Raincountry"!! True to its name, this place receives a lot of rain .. cud be one reason it is is such green here .. The whole resort is nicely done up with the cottages not cramped in to one space ... Enough privacy given still maintaining a lot of open spaces ... Food was true Kerala style and we could ask for additional milk n others for the kids .. no fuss made and provided on request ... Would certainly suggest all to visit the place and I wud again visit for sure ...

We went there for team outing in group of 30. We all enjoyed and it was a pleasant trip. Best thing about resort is, its loaction. Awesome view. All rooms/ Cottages has TVs with Cable connection, hot water supply. The staff was friendly and services were prompt. The rooms and Bathrooms were clean and tidy. Food was OK. It was raining most of time while our stay. On request, resort staff provided us the music in the night which saved our trip. Resort has personal Pond with fishes and ducks. Also, it has natural water stream.

A horrible place to stay. The standards are worst than a 2 Star lodge. The location of this "lodge" is great, but the quality of rooms, food and service spoils your entire experience. The so called resturant don't carry a food menu and the food items are priced with out any parameters or standards. This is an illegal practise as far I know. We were shocked to learn about the rate they charged us for mineral water and soft drinks (3 times higher than MRP for sealed bottles) and when we questioned, they agreed to charge us the MRP. The next shock came when we were doing the check-out formalities. The bill/invoice was just a piece of torn white paper with just the totals for food and accommodation. The staff was not willing to provide us the break-up of our food bill as they had no clue how much they were charging us for each dish. Our repeated request for a proper invoice/bill was turned down by the staff. They turned down our request by saying that, their official letterheads and printers are all in the city office, and we could collect one from their. Finally when we decided to call the police, the original bill suddenly surfaced on our table and in addition the final bill amount was Rs.2000 less than the initial amount we were asked to pay. I have no idea how authorities could allow such a hotel/lodge to operate and cheat both people and our government. How can some one operate a restaurant with out a menu? How can they present fake bills and avoid paying taxes to the government? I don't even know if this place has proper licenses to operate. I will never recommend this place to any one, especially people from outside Kerala and from abroad. They will rip you as much as they can and you will have no option but to pay whatever they say for the crappy service and facilities. We were a group of 14 out of which 3 of us belonged to the travel/hospitality industry, and it's only because of our industry knowledge we could question these malpractices. We spent more than 3 hours of our precious vacation time to sort out this entire mess, and as youngsters and responsible citizens we couldn't stand such an illegal practise happening right in front of us. I strongly believe that, the state of other Resorts/Hotels in Wayanad are not the same. Visitors and travellers, please stay away from the so called "Rain Country Resort". Just imagine how they will be ripping our foreign tourists? As responsible citizens we should never allow such brats to tarnish our country's reputation. Let's join hands to make our country a better place for our future generations.

Room Tip: Stay away from this facility. Not a safe and professional organization.

Good thing about this place is its location, the rooms are very bad, toilets very average..
5800/- per room night not worth it, you can stay in a five star in any other location and the approach road very bad.
Food was very good and staff very friendly.. That's what saved our trip..

We were very apprehensive of the resort after reading very bad reviews in TripAdvisor. That is exactly why I wanted to write this review.
1) The 4 km ghat road to the resort is horrible. It is a steep kaccha road to the top of a hill. If a vehicle comes in the opposite direction, one should back the vehicle to a point where there is enough space to give way. One should mentally prepare for this drive before going to the resort.
2) To say that the resort location is excellent - is only to put it very mildly. It is a fantastic location. It is the place where the rainfall is the second highest in the world. With green hills all around, clouds descending on the cottages and fresh breeze, it is absolutely relaxing to the mind, body and soul.
3) Service in the resort is decent. People are friendly.
4) Facilities in the rooms are good.
5) Food is nice. Breakfast is especially very good.
6) No swimming pool. Resort people said there is a natural swimming pool, but it is a pond with a lot of fish and moss. Can't go into that.
7) Camp fire was made excellently.
8) One big precaution - there are leeches all around. Should be very careful while going near the plants or the tea plantations.

Overall, this resort is a very good value for money with stunning views and good facilities. Don't get carried away by bad reviews, but just be aware of the two negatives: bad road and leeches. You will definitely enjoy the stay.

4 of 5 stars Reviewed April 20, 2014

We prebooked a Wooden Cottage in April 2014 but after booking we were a bit doubtful. But surprisingly we loved this place.
It was very hot in Wayanad and while we were looking for this place as and when the kilometers went decreasing, we thought it was somewhere in the city and this might be a wrong decision!!
But its just the last 4kms drive thats gonna take u to the peak of one of the small steeps and destination is an awesome location at the peak.

One point I want to make here, if you are driving make sure you are confident enough to drive in a absolutely single lane road - a stoney muddy road. If a vehicle comes from the opposite side, you will have to go in reverse as well !!

Once you reach the resort you will definitely think twice to go out for any sight seeing imagining the road.. so i would suggest finishing any sight seeing you intend to do before checking in.

The place is very calm and supposed to be nice streams opposite to the rooms, but we stayed in April there was no water in the streams. There is a pond opposite to the wooden cottages. We loved to sit outside the room and enjoy the nature at its best.
Coming to the rooms - at least the wooden cottage was very very basic. Just the wooden rooms which kept the room so cool even if it was sunny outside. We dint even need the fan inside. They should imporve in bathoom fittings and cot-beds. The room furnitures and bed was very cheap - 2 full beds instead of a king/queen mattress.
The rooms do not have an intercom. I had to keep calling the numbers given from my mobile on roaming to get any room service.
We had ordered our lunch to room and the food was okay.. edible.. Evening for snacks we ordered 2 plates of Onion Pakoda which was so good that we orfered 2 more ..

Coming to the buffet dinner and buffet breakfast.. It was pathetic. We couldnt eat even one dish happily out of the buffet. Thankfully because we had onion pakoda we dint feel hungry at night.
Considering the road to reach the resort we cant even think of driving down to have dinner! So that was disappointing.

Otherwise had a pleasant stay. The staff are very courteous.

Regards,
Sunayana
