“Decent and in nice area but oddly lacking”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed June 15, 2013

This hotel is part of the golf club complex which is just outside the village of Belleme. In terms of location it is lovely with open space and fresh air. I’m not a golfer but the area around was really nice if you are looking for small town charm and country lanes. Unfortunately the hotel itself isn’t quite as good. The room I was in was perfectly fine although for some reason the hot tap in the sink didn’t produce hot water even though the tap in the bath did. The walls are very thin anytime anyone within 4 rooms range flushes their toilet then you’ll know about it as the whole water network swooshes.

The restaurant is decent food but terrible service; one evening we waited 45 minutes for our final course – no apology, no offers to make up for it; it just seemed like a normal thing for them. Breakfast was OK although I found it confusing to have cereal on one side of the room and the milk on the other and other odd things like that this that just seemed unnecessary. It gets very busy when there are coach parties in the hotel and the staff struggle to keep up with the demand. After one morning of empty coffee pots, no fruit etc I decided I would get up for breakfast as soon as it started at 7am.

It is still a nice place but the restaurant service, noisy water system and other little things are unfortunately the things that stick in my mind.

I have had the pleasure to stay at this hotel several times and never been disappointed. I have also played the course several times. This time was no different with the hotel and golf course in fine fettle. I was told that new owners have recently have taken over and there is already evidence of new investment in the rooms. The tourist menu is excellent as are the staff for whom nothing is too much trouble. My rating would have been excellent but the pool has been closed with only partial reason given(health and safety?) which left the girls with some time on their hands. We will be back.

Room Tip: All rooms in the main building are more convenient especially if it is raining!

The drive to the "Golf de Belleme" is quite something, you pass through small charming French villages and the road is hugged by dense forest or scenic vistas. The hotel may look a bit "corporate" from the outside but once you're in, you find it's a charming place. Golf trophies and memorabilia adorn the walls. The staff are friendly, and make banter with kids and adults alike. We are not golfers, but the staff let us take out a golf cart to drive around, much to the delight of our child. It is quiet, and there is choice of a brasserie or a restaurant, both of which are good value and provide great food too - the restaurant is especially excellent.

Prices are very affordable, room service was very cheap - a "Kir" delivered to our room was only 3 euros. Even the restaurant allowed us to finish our meal in our room because our small child was become increasingly grumpy and noisy.

The surroundings of the hotel are great, they are currently building another room complex and expanding the golf course, but if you walk 5 minutes from the hotel you come across Norman cows, horses, sheep and all manner of farm animals. There is a small riding school within walking distance if you want to learn to ride or just entertain the kids.

There is a spa facility here but be warned, this is the only downside to the resort. Not because of the facility, but at the moment it seems to be run by some kind of dragon lady. The first words that went our way as soon as we stepped foot in there was "you need to take your shoes off", followed by "tell your child not to touch that" (our child is 2 yrs old). Then my wife preceded to ask for the price of a massage to the person manning the desk, when dragon lady intervened again with "Don't bother her, she's busy - come here and I will tell you." Needless to say we told her we'd be back when she was in a better mood. One interaction like this can give a resort a bad reputation, and hopefully the management will sort this out. There is also a small pool in this same facility, but it is not heated, so you can only use it in summer.

All in all a pleasant stay, at good value, so don't shy away if you're a family, have kids or don't play any golf at all - just watch out for the dragon lady!

We are not golf players but we thoroughly enjoyed our stay here on our trip to La Boudin Noir in Mortagne-au-Perce. Our food was fantastic and the staff there were superb. Yesin the waiter picked fantastic food and recommended fabulous wine for our 2 dinner stay.

Been Irish and in a different country for St Patricks Days we still managed to celebrate it with the best staff and owner. We would highly recommend this beautiful hotel.

A great destination for the English to visit golf trips. We took an estate car with 4 golfers and 4 sets of clubs by ferry from Portsmouth to Caen. Belleme is a scenic 1.45 hour drive South from Caen to the Perche region of southern Normandy. The hotel is surrounded by large, new, well equipped apartments in which we could cater for ourselves or walk over to the restaurant. As usual in France, the food was excellent. Some building work was still under way, but this did not trouble us and there are some great views over the golf course and surrounding countryside. Residents enjoy half-price green fees provided you book through hotel reception, rather than the pro-shop. Excellent golf course, steep hills in places but buggies available to hire if required. Going again this Easter!

If you want to enjoy nature and just relax, this is the perfect spot, even if you don't golf.

You can take a walk through the fields, to the village, or just get lost in the beautiful French countryside. Apart from that, don't expect too much action.

There is the possibility to ride horses or, of course, play golf, but we haven't tried them.

The food was OK - a dinner was included in our deal and it was just fine.

Location: outside of the village, which is within walking distance. The only problem is that if you go there by train you need to take a 35€ cab from a nearby village.

I stayed here with my husband and two children, we had a fantastic holiday. The apartments are stunning and beautifully finished in true Normandy style, they are also all very well fitted out. The golf course is excellent with beautiful views of the surrounding hills. Great food at the hotel and very friendly staff. Hotel has homely feel and maybe could do with a lick of paint but it is very comfortable. The pool at Belleme is huge and is within walking distance. It has a great playground next door and tennis courts which are free to use if you stay in one of the apartments or at the hotel. A good selection of local restautants and bars within walking distance of the apartments and the hotel. Definately worth a visit!
