“Exceeds Expectations”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed September 28, 2012

My wife and I spent three nights at the Chateau de Vouiilly in September and used it as our base to visit the D-Day beaches. The chateau and surrounding farm exude history with some portions dating back to the 10th century. James and his family are marvelous and accommodating hosts and he has a cornucopia of books, maps and information in several languages (including English).
If you're traveling without GPS, follow James' website directions to arrive since few people in the surrounding area seem to know how to get to Vouilly. Alternatively, it's a beautiful countryside in which to be lost.

“Marvelous”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed July 30, 2012

We spent 2 nights in the magic Orangerie suite, 3 rooms with wonderful views.
The chateau, the gardens, the nearby pond, and the farm all offer unforgettable experiences and our family enjoyed every moment.
We were having breakfast in the very same room where the press reports were typed during D-day…a very significant detail for my history studying son. James is very knowledgeable and shared with us some historical instances which will make our trip even more memorable…It is a very good location to visit Bayeux, D-day beaches, and all the small coast villages.
Thank you Marie Jo and James for making us feeling as welcomed guests in your wonderful chateau.

Room Tip: The Orangerie suite for a family of 4 is ideal

“The Best”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed May 8, 2012

We were a group of 6 (3couples) and we stayed at Chateau de Vouilly 3 nights. It was one of the highlights of our trip. The rooms are spacious and beautiful, the location is perfect for exploring the Normandy beaches, James is a wonderful host, and the home is rich in history. James even made a picture of our group and presented each couple an 8x10 of our group and an 8x10 of pictures of the Chateau. You will not be disappointed.

“Great experience”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed August 13, 2011

Great hotel. We had a charming 3 room "orangerie" suite. Great place from where you can explore the Normandy Beaches. The host, James, is exceptionally helpful. James will gladly spend an hour talking about the chateau, the Normandy Beaches and the surrounding area. There is a charming XIII century small church in the village. A lady living in an adjoined house will be trilled to open it for you and show you around. The breakfast is served in the main room. The marmalade and the cheeses were great. The same room was used by the press just after the landings.

“Absolutely fantastic - will return”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed August 2, 2011

Whilst this hotel is a little bit off the beaten track, if you have a car it is a great location to visit the D-day beaches and sights. The setting could not be better. It is rural and old, but well maintained and James the Inn-keeper was very friendly, speaks good English and was always ready to help make dinner reservations and give directions and tips to visit the sights.

There was no wifi (at least not in our room) or TV in the room, but this isn't the kind of hotel where you'd miss them. There was also no stand-up shower and so you'll need to wash sitting in the bath tub whilst holding the shower head above your head. If this is unacceptable to you, you'll probably want to look elsewhere, but whilst it would've bothered me in any other hotel, in the Chateau de Vouilly it just added to the experience.

Not only would I return to this hotel if I was in the area, we are already planning a return trip solely because we enjoyed ourselves so much. One night was not enough. Everything was better than perfect.

Very clean, very spacious, very romantic, great service, fantastic setting and breathtakingly beautiful surroundings.
