First i would like to say that Villa del Palmar Cancun is a beautiful resort with all the luxury that one could ask for while still being able to afford it, When we arrived from the airport aprox 20 mins by shuttle we were greeted at the door with open arms, went into check in and was told the rooms would be ready in about an hour, which was ok, after getting our all inclusive bands we were asked to sit down while a guy tried to open communicaton about time share, We shut him down immediately, (if you have no intentions to buy into property does this first thing) he had asked why and we just told him we were not buying and its a waste of our time and the sales staff time, done never bothered again, After leaving and going to the bar for our 1st of many cocktails, we were pleasantly greeted by the bar staff at the bar next to the Seak house, after a few we proceded to our rooms and were very suprised and very happy to say the least we had a 1 bedroom suite with a drop down bed in the living room area for my son, The room was absolutely gorgeous, from kitchen to balcony, no dissapointments with the room, after getting unpacked we were ready for dinner, this is where the fine tuning comes in, we arrived at the Davino's resturant and found ourselves to wait over 1.5hr to get seated, and had a wonderful dinner, after dinner we retired to our rooms for a great night sleep on the most comfortable bed i have ever had in a hotel, In the morning we once again went to the Bkfast buffet and waited 20mins, we were 2 parties a total of 6 people and learned then and there take 2 tables of 4 and get seated much faster,we did this durring breakfast only,to cut to the chase we had great meals at Davino's, the Japaneese restruant, and didnt care much for the Steak house, and after talking to some of the visitors they pretty much had the same idea as we did about the dinning, We learned if you wanted to eat by 620pm get to the dining area of your choice by 550pm you will have no problems getting seated and waited on with good service,if you wait until after 615 to get to a resturant you will be waiting 1.5 hr for a table, we learned this immediately and avoided much frustration, The service for the most part was good but a little under staffed to say the least, The help they do have does all they can do to accommidate you in anyway they can, and if you show them a little green they go even further to make your stay a wonderful one, Once we decided to hang at the pool for most of our week stay we found it very friendly with servers like Andreas,Linda, and the complete activities crew, Andreas was the best waiter we had all week, never let us go empty handed no matter how busy he was, and we showed him much gratitude for his service in return, The activity cordinator i believe its Estephan, (the chunkier one) is a riot and tries to get all involved in the activities around the pool, at 11am every day he had water arobics, where he and his staff of about 7 come down turn the music up and have fun with dance and arobics, my son is pretty shy and they took him under their wing every day and got him up participating instead of watching, I take my hats off to them, at 3.00 they had Zumba class next to the pool once again its a lot of fun music with excersice, The staff is doing what they can but need participation also to keep motivated, On too the beach were we spent 1 day as we are pool people, the beach is rather small, and not overcrowed, but do be aware there is a seaweed washup issue on the beach, which i believe is not the Hotels fault, maybe a bad choice on where to build this beautiful resort, but they have no control of it,The crew does clean and rake it daily but i believe its rather hard to keep up to the build up of seaweed on the beach, and once in past your knees you really don't even notice the seaweed in the water, The beach is owned by the Goverment not the resort for those who did not know that, as i didnt know that either but with the Govt owning the beach it gives the tourist free will to walk the beaches with out having any resort closing down the so called walk thru, but anyhow back to the hotel, Some policies of the hotel need to change, if you are all inclusive tourist and have the correct color wrist band on you should not have to sign a check for every transaction, I voiced my concern to a couple of the supervisors and they agreed but it's done for a inventory purpose as well, Another word of advise if you go there and want to avoid sigining everytime get friendly with your waiter and tell them you want to leave the check open for 2hrs, this is there time limit before needing a signature, we actually went all day with Andreas but i think we was doing it as we tipped him very well, but anyhow they will keep it open to where you don't need to sing every sale,(THIS IS THE FINE TUNNING PART), I would love to see this change in the future, Overall we had a great stay at the resort and would return, problem with that is usually when we travel we book new properties and they are definitely more affordable to us people who need a affordable vacation getaway, Lets face it the price for this all inclusive resort is almost unreal, very very affordable and a great deal for what you get in return, just a few things to remember,
1) Get to dinner by 5.45pm or you will wait
2) Get friendly with the wait staff and they will accomidate you very well (tip fairly)
3) Get the staff to keep your check open for the 2 hr period, makes life easy
4) Get involved around the pool and it makes your day a happy one,

I am very open minded and laid back as a traveler, I was very happy to of stayed at the Villa del Palmar Cancun Beach resort, for the price we paid for 3 as a all inclusive we could of not stayed at a Holiday Inn in the US this cheap, It's a great property and currently affordable, If you do decide to go the concerns i had with the property will be there, please do the few things i reccommend and your trip will be a nice one, and one more thing take the ferry over to Isla moreales it's quite an experience, do not take the Water taxi guys, they rip you off, Ferry is 3.00 per person each way can't beat it, There is plenty of shopping, beaches and bars, on the island, I hope this help some of you too decide but when it's all said and done we mostly travel for the same reasons, and the #1 being affordability and this property at the time being is one of the best deals on Cheapcarriben.com,,,,,,,,,,,,,,, hope this helps some of the concerned travelers looking for a nice vacation, please where ever you decide to travel please post a review on trip advisor as this does sway my vacation destination and choices, thanks for reading good luck in your travel,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,

Room Tip: Try to get at least the 3rd floor for a great view of the resort and Carribean

Just got back a few days ago. Stayed in a 1 BR for 3 nights, did the all-inclusive. The room is great, having the extra space is nice vs a traditional hotel room. We were a couple in our upper 30's. We each had our own bathroom.

Food was actually pretty good. We ate at Davinos and the steak place for dinner. Both were above average and quite good. For lunch we ate at Zama and the Bite Bar. Both of those are probably above average. The breakfast at Davinos is very good, but did get crowded.

For the money we paid we couldn't have been more satisfied.

Some comments...
Check in was pretty slow and disorganized.
They have a hospitality suite you can use to shower/change if your room isn't ready or if you need to clean up after check out.
We had to get up a little early to get a good spot at the pools, there were plenty of seats, but if you wanted an umbrella those were a little harder to find (but there were a good # of them)
The place was very busy, and they were understaffed. Some things were slow but it was never a huge issue, we weren't in any real hurry to do anything.
Drinks were fine, some better then others. If you do all-inclusive I think all you get is draft beer (aside from can's in your room). it was corona and not bad.
We were not awakened once due to noise outside.
We didn't really want to go out or offsite, so this location was fine for us.
Our bed was very very soft.
We were not hassled at all to do a time share presentation.
They have a little store if you need toothpaste and suntan lotion, basically like a 7-11, was nice to have if you needed something.
They stock the fridge up with a few beers, waters, sodas and snacks each day.
There is no free wifi on the property, it was 10$ a day USD if you wanted to use the service, otherwise there are 2 computers on the property you can use and can print from, those 2 are free.
Long wait times to eat.
Water from the sink stinks (but shower seemed fine, and it blasted water out at a rate that almost hurts).
We did not use the spa.
I'm pretty tall, about 6-3, some beds have footboards, I had to sleep sideways to be comfortable, try to get a bed that does not have one if you are over 6 feet tall.
The resort, rooms, grounds, pools... all are about as good as you are going to get.
The hot tubs are not always turned on.
There is a lot of seaweed/kelp on the beach. If you really want a perfect beach with crystal blue waters this is not it. Thats is probably the biggest issue we had with the place, plus the long wait times to eat.
Having to sign for everything got old, but it wasn't that big of a deal.
It was very windy, you really couldn't sit on the beach at times, but it wasn't as bad at the pools, it actually was a nice breeze up there.
Our room only had a sheer curtain on the sliding glass doors, the side of the building we were on did not get the sun light in the morning but if you were on the other side I could see that being a major issue if you want to sleep in (if looking at the resort from the beach we were on the left side).

Pretty good trip and we would recommend this place to anyone.

Had real high hopes for my vacation at this resort. The stay started out fairly well. Our room was beautiful, and the air conditioner kept it nice and cool. The beds were comfortable, it came with a nice kitchen and a very nice living room. Getting maid service to take care of it was difficult and after our first day we had never gotten a visit a all. The second day the maid showed up, only to leave the room door wide open after she left and for the entire day as we were away on an excursion.
The hotel/resort has several restaurants. Our dining experiences at each ranged from good to mediocre. Sadly mediocre was more a constant than good.
Management throughout the resort was lacking. Hotel staff while not horrible was uneven in their efforts and effectiveness and kept us looking everyday for someone to wait on us at the restaurants, bars, etc.
The hotel has 10 floors so those guests on floors above the bottom rely heavily on the elevators. Pity that they share them with the hotel staff who often had them stopped on upper or lower floors with their carts while guests were forced to wait. No service elevators?
I won't spend much time on the time share presentation we sat through as it was our descision to do this. I would only warn against it, as the 2 plus hours you spend will be worse than a visit to a dentist without novicane.
Wifi is advertised throughout the hotel and in all rooms. This may be the cruelest joke of all, as except for getting occasional access at one of the restauants, the only place I got Wifi was in the hotel lobby.
There are way to many travel options to waste your money on mediocrity. At least there is from this travelers perspective. I won't be back.

Beautiful resort. Wonderful architecture. Pools were clean, beautiful, varied and fun. Infinity pool is wonderful. Activity people were really fun and water aerobics and Zumba with Luis and Pedro et.al. was terrific. Had a suite in bldg A on the 9th floor. Fabulous view and amenities. Food was excellent overall with Davino being the highlight for us. Red Snapper was out of sight. Presentation was a highlight and Donovan Encenada our waiter was fun, professional and we left after just four days as mi amigos! We booked through Cheap Caribbean which all went well and used the transport through them with Olympus Tours. They were excellent, timely and helpful during our stay. Lupita who works the lobby for Olympus is a wonderful and warm woman whom you will find helpful for your excursions. We can recommend her without reservation. We did not do the timeshare pitch since we own a Westin Points program now and were not interested. Only downside to this property was the wind. It was quite windy. This could be location where two currents come together as was reported to us or time of season or just a weather front at the time we were there. Maybe check other reviews at different points in time Caution this is a family and more mature resort, not spring break party time into the wee hours. Long ways from the party strip so if that is your scene this is not your spot. If you want, rest, relaxation, exercise or not and a good time, this is it. Our first time to Cancun. We have done Playa del Carmen and think we prefer it best overall given the beaches. The beach is short at this resort but will get longer as the next two additions on the property get built. We would return to the Villa del Palmar if Cancun is our choice.

Room Tip: higher is better for the great ocean view. The suite with 4 and a full kitchen with Murphy Bed would...

We just got back form Valla Del palmar Cancun. First I will say what I liked about the resort.

It is a new and very beautiful resort. The horseshoe shaped building has unique and interesting architecture. You can see many different style rooms, suites and penthouse s which are evident from the outside. We had a one bedroom suite. It was beautiful. Nice accessories, marble floors, Jacuzzi and many other conveniences. The washer driver came in handy. The pools are beautiful and the beach is very nice. The staff was mostly very friendly and helpful. I tipped the bartenders $20 per day and I was well taken care of. We met some very nice guests.

Now the rest…The airport is a nightmare. They come running at you as soon as you exit immigration. We were doing a timeshare package so we were told not to talk to anyone but them or our deal was void. We’ll they weren’t there where they were supposed to be. A different company had our name on a placard. So I checked in with them. They had all our info but my wife was totally freaked out. She cried all the way to the resort. It turned out to be the right company after all but with a different name. When I pointed out the confusion and anxiety giving us the wrong information caused the timeshare girl laughed a little and frankly blew us off.

When we arrived at the resort we got in line to check in but were pulled out of line by the time share people. I thought they were checking us in. But after 30 plus minutes I realized they were getting more info. Then they put us back in a very slow checking line. It took an hour plus.

The next morning what was supposed to be a nice 90 minute tour and sales pitch which turned into a 2 1/2 hour hardcore sales pitch. The interest rate was ridiciluous. The maintenance fees were very high. The closing costs unconscionable and it was then or never. I don’t buy real estate that way. I wouldn’t buy a couch that way. We said pass. We had to pass to 4 different people. The sales agent, her manager, the developer and then the final woman at the tour office. The sales girl seemed insulted that we not willing to plunk down tens of thousands of dollars on a time share package after a short tour.

The food at the resort went from bad to ok and occasionally very good. Breakfast at Davino’s was very good. The snack shack was also very good. The Cuban buffet was well inedible. Davino’s dinner ranged from lousy…chicken linguini to very good…snapper and bass….
I got very sick day three and spent 24 hours in bed. My physician said according to symptoms it was food poisoning but I was not tested.

Overall I would say my experince was marginal…I will not return and I cannot recommend it.

Room Tip: The Higher the better...Bring your bose noice cancelling headphones...You will need them.

For sheer beauty, you can't beat this resort. The architecture, the decorating, the landscaping, the crystal clear pools and the ocean side view are a feast for the eyes. The staff is generally friendly and helpful, the activities staff especially. We had a blast doing water aerobics with Luis and Pedro. We booked a limited all inclusive package which allowed us to dine at two of the four restaurants, plus the Bite Bar. All the food and drink was fantastic, but at times the service could be agonizingly slow, a common theme in Mexico but unexpected and not appreciated at a resort catering primarily to US tourists. It should not take 2 - 3 hours to eat supper when you're talking just appetizer, entree, dessert, and I shouldn't have to flag down a waiter and ask for a drink refill which will then take 10 - 15 minutes to arrive. Some of the wait staff was better than others, and we had one fantastic waiter at Davino, Alex, who was both efficient and entertaining. The restaurants and bars are very nice, but too small for the number of guests. At times it could be impossible to get a seat at the Bite Bar, and we never did succeed in getting a swing at the beach bar, it was always crowded. Although tips are supposed to be included, you have to sign for everything you order, and the waiters visibly check to see if you added a tip, and the already slow service can get worse. The extra tips don't have to be big, I went with 5% for average service and up to 10% for great service, but it's another hassle, especially when having drinks or snacks on the beach or poolside.

Our room was beautiful and comfortable, although the housekeeping wasn't exactly 5-star. The only problem with the room was that the tap water smelled disgusting. It reminded me of the smell when I'd stir up black slime from the bottom of a swamp as a child. Taking a hot shower was a miserable experience which left you smelling like sewage all day long, and even our bedding smelled, we'd lie in bed and try to get used to it so we could fall asleep. We might have been better off to sleep in the delightful rope hammock on the balcony, but wanted to sleep past sunrise.

We booked a day trip to Chichen Itza through the convenient on-site travel agency, may have paid a little more than we had to, but convenient always costs more.

The resort is conveniently located right next to the Punta Sam car ferry to Isla Mujeres, which makes for a nice day trip.

On the plus side, the resort has a great variety of beach and water toys available for use, kayaks, paddle boards, snorkel gear, horseshoes, bean bag toss, chairs and beach beds. The beach itself is fantastic, they've done a LOT of work to bring in white powder sand and rebuild the beach. The resort provides activities like water aerobics and dance lessons free of charge, and there is a nightly entertainment, we enjoyed a Super Bowl party and a Mayan dance presentation, but skipped karaoke night and missed a couple others. The on-site convenience store had decent prices on alcohol, water, and soda pop, but the clothing and souvenirs seemed pretty expensive. There is an on-site bank with a decent exchange rate. You can do a few pesos better off-site, but again, the convenience is probably worth it unless you're planning on going into Cancun for some other reason. On balance, most of the staff were friendly and helpful if a little slow-paced. We did enjoy our time here, it's a great place for a winter escape, and we're talking about when we'll visit next.

Room Tip: Third floor and higher on the ocean side are the best rooms
