“Another memorable experience!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed October 8, 2012

We had the pleasure of staying at La Mela Rosa this pas September for 9 nights...which was nearly not enough. Our last visit to the B & B was September 2011 and when we were returning to Le Marche there was no question where we would stay. I can't say enough about this absolutely beautiful B & B..the setting is out of this world, Pauline & Rob's home is totally stunning and the attention to detail in everything they do is remarkable. I know my husband and I have never been to another B & B that has made us feel so welcome...from the afternoon tea and homemade treats to all the help Pauline & Rob go to with every request you can imagine. I could go on and on...but if you're travelling to Le Marche La Mela Rosa is a definite stop.
Looking forward to heading back in 2014
Ken & Linda

This is the only review that I have ever made on Tripadvisor. We are hoteliers and by and large we never stay in hotels for obvious reasons, instead, choosing to stay in small B&Bs or self catering. We never expect perfection but there is always a secret hope that one day one will stumble upon our Shangri-la. Well, this is it ! A hidden part of Italy, in the mountains of Sibillini seemingly isolated from the outside world. La Mela Rosa is everything that one could wish for. Lovely comfortable rooms with views, showers that one can only dream of, comfortable places to read, amazingly thoughtful hosts in Pauline and Rob ( wicked senses of humour ! ) who are able to read your needs in a flash.....Pauline cooks REALLY well. Local ingredients whizzed up in the local idiom. Good local restaurants are also in abundance. Walks to remember for the rest of your life....Trout fishing for the pot, or to release, can be arranged locally as with cooking classes.

If you are looking for a holiday that is perfect, then this is it. The scrambled eggs are wondrous to behold....Rob is the breakfast chef !

We will be back. Thank you Mela Rosa for being who you are and where you are.

We stayed 4 nights and it was not enough.....next time, I hope that we can book for a couple of weeks ( if they will have us and they have room )

Of course the weather is always good in the summer but they have open fireplaces for the colder months and we can imagine how lovely that would be.

Room Tip: All three are quite lovely

My wife and I spent 5 nights at La Mela Rosa as a base for day hikes in the Sibillini mountains. From La Mela Rosa a variety of gorges, lakes and mountains can be accessed within a 30 to 40 minute car drive - our favourites being Mount Sibillini, Lago Pilato and the Finestrone Gorge.

La Mela Rosa ticks all the boxes and more:
- large rooms with excellent showers
- hearty breakfasts
- packed lunch options
- an idyllic and relaxing location
- a knowledgeable and friendly host and hostess

One of Pauline's big pluses, apart from her willingness to help in any way, was her knowledge of the restaurants in the surrounding area and the obvious regard she is held by the restauranteurs. The restaurants and trattorias of Le Marche offer outstanding value and customer service when compared to their Umbrian neighbours.

Pauline and Rob have a large restored house in lovely countryside near Amandola. Our room was large by any standards but we also had our own sitting room with books to browse. Breakfast on the patio was excellent- even including bacon and eggs! And the pool was all you needed. In case we couldn't find the place Rob met us in town and guided us to La Mela Rosa. What more could you want? Make sure you make the pleasant walk to the nearby lake.

It was good to find such a gem so close to the charming town of Amandola. Pauline and Rob were perfect hosts, always offering us a glass of wine after a long day out in the countryside. The place itself is immaculate and really beautifully restored, with nice spots to chill out and a great pool area. We were both quite jealous of their life there... If you're looking for a place that has charm and people who can give you tips on everything there is to do around, go there. Pauline and Rob were like locals, except they spoke perfect English! Oh, and they know where all the good restaurants are too!

'La Mela Rosa' and the magical setting of the Le March countryside gave us the most memorable experience we have had in our travels to Italy. Being older and driving through Italy we have had some challenging moments, but from the moment we arrived we knew the time here would be wonderful! An impeccably restored farmhouse, La Mela Rosa boasts spacious rooms that have been tastefully decorated to evoke a sense of the luxurious whilst maintaining the feeling of calm that can only come from being in the country away from the bustle of chaotic cities and their tourism. This villa reflects the love and passion of its owners but also has strong reminders of its own past story - an era gone by when a farmer and his family survived there because they worked together to farm their land and pay their landlord. Stone walls and tumbling roses surround the original grape press area that Rob and Pauline have preserved. There are newer additions to the villa, such as the pool and the pergola that is almost swathed in honeysuckle; they blend seamlessly with the old, and are enhanced by the surrounding countryside's peace and quiet.

Special touches in this B and B reflect the impeccable taste of its owners. All rooms overlook the rolling, green countryside and are beautifully appointed with tall shuttered windows, comfortable beds, quality linen, magnificent antique wardrobes and chests of drawers to provide an opportunity to escape from living out of a suitcase! Many hand picked pieces of furniture and artwork ensure there is a sense of this place being a real home, not just a B and B. The bathrooms provide that extra touch of luxury so often missing from the accommodation offered by most of the places that we have stayed in during our time in Italy. The supply of sweet smelling local handmade soaps, freshly laundered towels and fresh flowers from the garden all add to this feeling of luxury.

Breakfasts were leisurely and whatever style you wanted. We discovered that Pauline's fruit compote and home made jams, followed by Rob's scrambled eggs, were difficult to resist! By day we explored the sights of the area, its towns and mountains and lakes. At night the fragrance of the honeysuckle and the gentle sounds of the country wafted in through the windows........we always slept soundly after a day walking in the mountains or a delicious dinner in a nearby medieval town.

La Mela Rosa is so much more than a B and B and you are instantly made to feel at ease by Pauline and Rob's friendly welcome; we found them to be very perceptive about the mood of their guests and could offer a lively chat or just the chance to relax in the garden with a cup of tea or coffee while munching on some of Pauline's home baked goodies. They certainly made you feel a part of the local area quite easily and we were even treated to some local cheese and meats and a glass of wine before we headed out to an evening in Amandola. Pauline speaks fluent Italian and is very knowledgable about the local area; she and Rob looked after us brilliantly with a supply of maps, directions and suggestions of where to go and where to eat so we could experience more of the 'real' Italy.

The local towns and the surrounding areas are easy to fall in love with - everywhere we went we met friendly people, ate the best local produce and were constantly surrounded by glorious views of the mountains or forests of oak trees where the prized truffles we enjoyed eating so much are found. To holiday here while the daily life of the country continues on in the surrounding fields and farms, was a chance to give one's soul some time to breathe. Wild flowers carpeted the roadsides and land around the villa and I was fortunate to see a wild deer grazing peacefully beside La Mela Rosa's pool as I swam!

We felt as though we would have liked to have stayed here for so much longer - and we will definitely return! For those who are visiting Le Marche and who love to enjoy life's riches - great food, magnificent wine, glorious scenery and the company of friendly people who have a zest for life, 'La Mela Rosa' is the place for you!

Room Tip: All rooms have excellent amenities, decor and views

We stayed at La Mela Rosa 4 years ago when it was pretty new. We thoroughly enjoyed our stay then and were interested to see what it was like now. It was looking really lovely...the garden is now established and there is a swimming pool. The roses were a source of envy.....magnificent blooms with beautiful fragrance. The weather was better than on our last visit and the countryside seen from our windows and the garden was at its best and prettiest. The inside is still clean, spacious, comfortable, and attractive. Rob and Pauline, are still helpful and knowledgeable.....but more so. Pauline even managing to find a factory shop, rather off the beaten track, but in Amandola, where we were able to buy cashmere at a good price.
