Where else in the world would you find a restaurant with tables down to the water's edge, but in Thailand. We're at Pla Restaurant on the beach at Surin at dusk on a Friday night. The delightful French (I think) restaurant manager shows us to a beachfront table, beckons over the staff with food menus, wine menus and special menus. Our chairs sink into the soft white sand as we examine what's available and order per-dinner cocktails and beers. As the sun sets, huge torches in the shape of an upturned fish are lit, casting a glow on all the tables. The atmosphere and service are both fantastic, which is why the restaurant is full to capacity by 8.00 pm.
Pla being the Thai word for fish means that the menu is going to concentrate on fish dishes but there is also a selection of Australian beef dishes, traditional Thai dishes as well as a fair range of Western food for the unadventurous.
The food is very good, the fish cooked to perfection with attention given to detail. Well worth a visit.
