“Nice Hotel & Helpful Staff”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed June 24, 2009

Just came back from Phuket last week. Stayed for 3 nights at Marriott Courtyard Surin. The hotel's clean, well-managed, cozy, and the staff are friendly and helpful. The hotel also has kids club and nice swimming pool with big slides, which delight my 2 children (age 6 & 7). Big thanks for Jum at Front Office, who had been a great help during our stay. Also, she arranged a surprise for my daughter and my husband 's bday. It's really a memorable and enjoyable stay!

5 of 5 stars Reviewed June 24, 2009

We just got back from a week stay at this property. Let me start off by saying I chose this hotel because we were on a budget. I got this for $54 USD a night including breakfast. I wasn't expecting much because there were few reviews to go by. I was a little hesitant when we arrived because the property is small and we had just come from a 5 star resort in Krabi. That being said I ended up falling in love with the staff and the charm of the place by the second day. Here is a breakdown of what you need to know when choosing this hotel:

Hotel Property -
The hotel is pretty small but has everything you need. There are about 250 rooms but it felt much smaller since there weren't many guests while we were there. There is a lagoon pool that has lots of chairs and towels available. There is a small second pool that the two waterslides empty into. The slides are a blast for kids and adults. There is no spa but there is a gym that's open 24 hours and was very nice. The beach is directly across the road through a small park. The only hotel that has a lounge area on the beach is the Twin Palms. There is internet access and videos to rent for your rooms. Room service is limited and ends pretty early. They have a snack bar that you can get late night snacks and also a small selection of toiletries and essentials.

Food:
The hotel has one restaurant that is open all day. The breakfast has enough to choose from but could be better. If you dont get it included in your rate i'd eat elsewhere because it was 900 BHT a person. We had lunch and dinner a few times and it was delicious and cheap. I'd say a meal for two would be 1000BHT without cocktails. Only slightly higher than the outside restaurants. We ate the majority of our meals at the Surin Bay Inn which is a few doors down if you take a left out of the hotel. I recommend trying the pineaple fried rice, chicken satay, pad thai and the pineaple shakes if you go. They also have internet access here for only 2 BHT a minute. The staff is wonderful and the prices unreal.

Beach:
Surin beach was very private and clean. You have to rent chairs and umbrellas for 50BHT each but these people keep the beach swept of debri and watch your things for you. We went to the far right of the beach and had such a nice girl and her brother rent to us every day. They had a small restaurant and would let you order food and drinks to your beach chairs which was great. They had toilets you could use and a fresh water shower to rinse off the saltwater and sand too.

Location:
Surin beach is on the northern end of the island. You are about ten minutes to Kamala (don't go there it's very run down and dirty), twenty minutes from Patong, thirty minutes to Karon and forty minutes to Kata. The hotel taxi is pretty expensive but they have a shuttle that goes to Patong or Phuket town for 350BHT per person round trip. You have to reserve a seat in advance. We ended up just using a local taxi but used the hotel car to go down to Kata for the day. The drivers are very friendly and speak pretty good english.

Staff:
I can't say enough good things about the staff at this hotel. EVERYONE is so friendly and wants to make your vacation wonderful. The waiters new us by name and remembered what we liked to eat and drink. The front desk welcomed you with a nice cold towel and delicious drink. They were helpful with any questions we had and accomodated us with a late checkout with no extra charge. The pool boys, the maids, the guards....everyone stops to say hello and ask how your day was etc. You will fall in love with them. That is the main reason why I am writing this outstanding review.

Rooms:
We had a standard King room. It was pretty small with just a bed, chair and a small desk. The bathroom had a decent size shower but no tub and only one sink. I don't spend much time in the room so i didn't mind. It had all you needed as far as a nice TV with plenty of channels, iron and board, hairdryer, safe, etc. If you have more than two people i'd consider getting additional rooms or a suite.

Tips:
-Make sure you get breakfast included
-go to the tour of the vacation club. You can use the hotel all day and you get great free gifts. We got thai massages that were 5,000 BHT each otherwise. We were glad we went even though we didn't buy. (we had no intentions of buying)
- Don't waste your money on internet or snacks at the hotel. Use the mini marts on either side of the hotel and the Surin Bay Inn for internet.
- be friendly to the staff and the will go overboard to please you in return.

Things to do while in Phuket:
Check out Patong for the shopping and nightlife. They have a new mall called Junceleyon that is great for souveniers. The bottom floor is all you need to bring presents back home. The bars get seedy at night but if you're young that's probably the fun place to be.

Go on the island tours!!! This is the only way to see the true beauty of the area. Our favorite is the Phi Phi island tour. Phang Na Bay is also nice and many do this with sea kayak tours of the sea caves which is amazing. If you want to see the Similan Islands you can only go Nov - April so plan accordingly. All the trips include snorkeling in crystal clear waters and private beaches.

Fantasea is a great place for a night out. Its a small theme park with a wonderful Vegas style show. Take a pass on the buffet dinner and the VIP tickets. We did both and wish we didn't waste the money. The theatre is small so you can sit anywhere and see fine. You can ride elephants here and feed them before the show.

Simon Cabaret:
This is a fun show of all the "ladyboys" dressed up in drag. We had a good time watching them all. If you get a chance to go I would.

Siam Safari Elephant trecking:
This is a must do if you've never done it before. You get to ride the elephants, watch them perfom, feed them and see how the caretakers live. It's alot of fun once. It's a pricey tour so we didn't go this time around.

Please feel free to contact me with any questions you have on Phuket or this hotel. This was our second trip and we've seen just about everything while we were there.

We just got back from a night's stay at the Courtyard Surin. From check-in, everything went perfectly. On the (long) walk to our room, every member of staff gave us a 'Sawadee Ka/p' and smile, which was very nice.
My son loved the 2 water flumes (good excercise for me too as there are 4 flights of stairs to the top!). Breakfast this morning was good - a la carte with a small buffett, but thats fine in low season.
The hotel was quiet - but well staffed and clean. We got a great rate of 1,800 baht through asiareservations.net which included breakfast and a free baby cot.
We plan to try the other Courtyard at Kamala in a few months.

Courtyard Marriott at Surin Beach

My partner and stayed in this hotel early April 2009 for almost 2 weeks.
A modern hotel with the most friendly staff we have ever experienced and fantastic service!!.. We have stayed in various 4 and 5stars hotels around the world but this one is the winner.
ROOMS: nice size airy rooms with stylish tasteful décor, flat screen tv and dvd player as a standard. The balcony was a good size overlooked the swimming pool.
LOCATION: just 3 minutes walk from the beautiful long and wide Surin beach with the cheap, medium and top priced restaurants. I must admit that every day massage on the beach was a heaven. For mature clientele, couples families looking for safe, relaxing atmosphere.
STAFF: 5* staff. They were exceptional. Between your room and the exit of hotel you will meet at least 10 staff who will welcome you with a kind smile and regards even the security at the hotel gate! Just superb! Can do attitude! Anything you asked for was done for you!
THINGS TO DO IN HOTEL: The swimming pool was fantastic and was right in the middle of the hotel. Loads of sun beds, free towels, a swim up bar, water slides. Kidsworld open daily from 09am-5pm then 6pm-9pm and FREE.... Fab!!. They also have a babysitting service.
FITNESS centre was really great overlooking gardens and swimming pool
RESTAURANT: The best from all hotels and places we went to. A great variety of food for breakfast anything you can imagine. The food was always fresh, fast and delicious. More spicy or non spicy, with no mushrooms or extra bread, whatever it is and you ask for they will tailor it to your taste and serve with the smile! Love this part a lot 
We tried few other restaurants but this was the best one!!

We highly recommend this hotel to all couples, friends, families.
We loved it there and would recommend anybody looking for stress free stay! We will definitely return end of this year or early next year!! Can’t wait!

We would like to say thank you also this way to Tao - at the reception, Tri -waitress and Mr Jamnong restaurant manager and all staff of this hotel who made our stay one of the most pleasant and who made us want to come back ( I wish I could only remember all your names..)

We will come back and we are hoping to see you all again.

Nothing to fault about this hotel. Nice rooms, well furnished, two lovely pools with plenty of shade, and always plenty of vacant chairs, and two water slides to keep the kids happy, big and small. The kids club caters for all ages up to teens and is popular after a few hours in the pool. The restaurant was reasonably priced so we didn't need to go out to eat, although there are plenty of restaurants nearby should you wish to try something else. The food was good and the staff were excellent. Being a smaller resort the staff got to know us by name and were all very friendly, efficient and helpful. When we checked in late in the day we found the beds a bit firm for our liking. Within minutes the hospitality manager, a real gem by the name of Tuk, was at our room with an assistant and nice foam overlays to put on the beds. We slept very well throughout our stay. Tuk heard that it was my birthday and as we were finishing our dinner a long line of kitchen staff paraded through the restaurant singing Happy Birthday and carrying a lovely cake, candles and all. All of the staff were great but Tuk deserves a special mention. She was always there, always spoke to everyone to ensure we were being well looked after, always wearing a big smile despite the pressure that she was sometimes under, a lovely lady. We would definitely recommend this hotel to our friends, particularly those with children. But it's not over-run by kids and my wife and I, both in our late 60's, loved it there and we still enjoyed our peace and quiet when we wanted it.

We booked the Marriot at Surin Beach for the last 4 days of our Thailand holiday. We had been to Bangkok and Chiang Mai and also Patong prior to staying here. We wanted the last few days of our holiday to be relaxing and this is exactly what we received. Hotel is very nice. Great pool, gym, food, friendly staff and nice accommodation. I would recommend this to anyone and although a 20 minute taxi (500 tbh) to Patong beach your tours would still pick you up from here so there is still lots you can see and do from here. After your busy day on tour is over it is a great place to relax. The staff were really nice. Talked to you by name, chatted to us and made us feel very welcome. It gets our vote!
