“Good but with Faults”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed January 15, 2009

The property is not on the beach. It is a short walk (some 150 metres) to Surin Beach, which is one of Phuket's nicest beaches.

The lobby and deco of the hotel are new and good.

The rooms are a bit on the small side for a resort-type property. In fact, I'd say that they are crammed. While the rooms are well appointed, there is little space at all.

The pools (there are 2 contiguous to each other) are fine but they don't get too much sun as they were built around the building complexes.

Internet charges are simply confiscatory, and should be halved. It is nearly $100 per week (we stayed for 7 nights). There's no business justification for this. Some hotels have free internet in the lobby but this one does not.

The breakfast is not great. Plenty of variety but the quality is average (for a hotel of this calibre).

Staff were very attentive. Very good treatment of guests. Service was prompt and efficient.

A major fault is that once you walk to the beach you are effectively on your own. The Marriott has no arrangement with any of the many private operators there so that one has to pay for a chair, an umbrella and anything else. This is annoying. It is difficult to understand why the Marriott does not provide any services to guests at the beach which is across the road.

It was an enjoyable stay and the property is recommended save for the provisos above.

I have just returned from a 6 night stay at the Marriott Courtyard Hotel at Surin Beach. I just wanted to say that it was really wonderful, a great hotel for families, and much better than expected (and shown on the Marriott website). The pool was excellent, its a short walk from Surin Beach, the hotel staff are very, very helpful and nice, the restaurant is just right, and the ambience and feel was excellent.
Some other tips you may not find from Marriotts website - it has recently been renovated in 2008 and therefore looks brand new, plugs sockets are international, don't use hotel taxi service (cheaper just getting a regular taxi from/to airport), kids club is excellent, rooms have showers (no baths as far as I know).
Highly recommended.

We stayed at Courtyard Marriott at Surin Beach for 6 nights in November. Surin beach is just in front of the hotel across a nice pathway.
What a superb hotel! The staff is exceptional. The F & B Manager Mr Jamnong was very attentive, welcoming and friendly. You can really count on him if you need anything. What a breakfast… Fruits, freshly made eggs, waffles and pancakes…
The room was high-quality with nice balcony and the swimming pool was lovely.
Thai people are amazing, always smiling and welcoming what made our holiday one of the best we have ever had.

Fernando and Mariana.

We stayed for two nights at the Courtyard by Marriott Phuket at Surin Beach after reading raves on tripadvisor.com However, we have mixed feelings about the place.

Good:
As many people have said on their review, Surin beach is very beautiful and the location is very good.
The facility is nice and the interior of MoMo restaurant is nicely done, too.
Kids club was nice with friendly staffs.
The staffs were very friendly and showed those big Thai smiles all the time.

Bad:
There were too many mosquitoes everywhere and especially when we were dining at the MoMo cafe for breakfast and lunch. When we complained about this, the hotel staff brought a spray to spray on my 3 year old son but I was shocked to find out that the spray contained 25% DEET.
The bedrooms also had mosquitoes but we didn't want any harsh chemicals sprayed in our rooms so we didn't bother to ask.
It smelled really bad all around the resort area especially in the corridor leading to our room. It smelled like really bad sewage overflowing everywhere.

Average:
The rooms were average Courtyard rooms and the food was also average, nothing special. I think this is worth mentioning since this place is much more expensive compare to other Courtyards.

We booked the hotel thru AsiaRoom and we were deciding between Manathai, TwinPalms and Courtyard Marriot at surin beach then. We decided on Courtyard Marriot because it has a special opening rate and I kinda like a new hotel. Above all, the reviews seems good.

The hotel room is slightly small, but sufficient for 2 of us. It is
modern and tastefully decorated. It has ironing board, umbrella, torchlight, tea making facility, bathrobe and slippers in the room which are usually lacking in tourist class hotels.

The staff in the hotel are extremely friendly. Breakfast selection is good, except that there is no cheese served (only cream cheese available). All types of coffee, tea and choc are included in the
breakfast that comes with the room. The freshly made waffles and pancakes are superb.

Manathai, TwinPalms and Courtyard Marriot are actually side by side each other. We had the time to check out the other 2 hotels during our stay and concluded that Marriot hotel is really value for money and an all rounder. It is particularly family friendly with its big pool, water slide and Kidsworld. The gym overlooking the pool is great!

Surin beach is just a stone throw away and there is a path in front
of the hotel leading to the beach. Taste is a restaurant on the beach that one must not missed. The dessert at Taste is very good. Friday Nite BBQ buffet at the Catch cafe run by the Twinpalms is a must try, with free flow of wine or champagne.

The area is quiet and I definitely prefer it to Patong, Kata or Karon beach. We rented a motorbike and went around all the beaches, it was great fun.

I will definitely come back to the hotel in future. I hope that it will continue to be kept in good conditions and offer good rate.

I recently spent three days at the hotel and found the hospitality level to be excellent. The staff was great and I mean everyone. Breakfast buffet was very good but I would prefer if they had a selection of cold cuts and cheeses. The hotel is very new so there were very few guests and I had the pool to myself every morning which was great. Surin Beach is about a 5 minute walk and has a large number of overpriced low quality restaurants. Also, if you like really long beaches where you can walk for hours then Surin Beach is not the place for you. You can walk from one end to the other in 10 minutes. Personally I prefer Bangtao Beach. The room was very nice and everything worked. Bathroom was a little spartan but perfectly adequate. I would definitely stay here again - so much better than any Courtyard where I have stayed in the USA. Be aware that Surin Beach is quite isolated so I suggest you rent a car when you stay there.

  • Liked — New and clean.
  • Disliked — Bathrroms are too spartan.

Excellent Hotel. We have just returned for a 9 night stay at the Courtyard Marriott at Surin Beach. What a fantastic hotel...
The Thai people are friendly people anyway but the staff at this hotel are exceptional. They are very accommodating. Nothing is ever a problem. They always welcomed us with a beautiful smile. They are very attentive. The resort is fantastic!!!! It is new. We stayed in a one bedroom suite. 2 adults , 4year old and Baby. The room was a seperate bedroom with a large king bed. and flat screen TV with dvd player. The lounge room had a pull out sofa bed. Another flat screen tv and dvd player. The kids stayed in this room. The balcony was a good size, not those little cramped balconies that some places have. Our room overlooked the free form swimming pool. The rooms are tastefully decorated, very stylish.....Loved it!!!
The swimming pool was fantastic and was centered in the middle of the hotel. Lots of sun lounges and a swim up bar. I cannot forget the water slides. Great for kids and also the adults.
Kidsworld is the kids club from 0900-1700 then 1800-2100 and FREE.... Wow. This place was fantastic. My 4 year old just wanted to be there the whole time. They really looked after the kids. What a blessing for the parents to just relax by the pool with a cocktail. We had our baby babysat for a few hours while we went out. Pan (babysitter) was fantastic. I felt that our baby was very safe and happy to be with her. Never a problem. The restaurant is great. The breakfast was fantastic..Alot of variety. The food always fresh and delicious. The resort is located across the road from park which leads onto the beach. A nice quiet beach, not like patong.
I highly recommened this hotel to all families types, friends, honeymooners as this location is a little quieter than others and cheap to hire a car for $40 for the day or motorbike $12 for the day. Lovely restaurants nearby and lots of restaurants located on the surin. There are lots of choices......
I have stayed at luxury hotels before and yes they were all great but I have to say that this hotel has the friendliest staff and I loved every bit of the hotel........I will return next year.
Big thanks to Jamnong (F & B Manager) Tuk Tuk, Pan, and all the fantastic staff who made our holiday one of the best we have had.

CHEERS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • Liked — THE ROOMS ARE BEAUTIFULLY DECORATE AND ITS ALL NEW, LARGE BATHROOMS
  • Disliked — NO BATHTUBS BUT NOT A MAJOR PROBLEM....BABIES CAN HAVE SHOWERS
