“Great visit for a week with our children”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed December 27, 2013

We had a great time at the resort. Our children are 4 and 6 and the loved the kids club, pool, beach and other excursions available from the resort (elephant trekking, snorkeling, city tour) which were all fantastic too. Food was great on the resort and a couple of places within walking distance on the left hand side of the resort by the beach and over near the beach club at JJ's bar behind the laundry which are a good and cheap break from dining. Lots of families with young kids so super easy to relax once the kids are sorted...highly recommend for a nice family vacation!

Room Tip: The ocean front suites are incredible!

The hotel has been running for years, which you could tell from the room size. But you could also tell that it's well maintained. As an isolated area in Mai Khao, which is 1hr driver away from the crowded town, this JW Marriott property actually surprised me a lot with so many business guests and conference.
In general, it's still a good JW Marriott, except for the breakfast.
There is a Marriott Vacation club just next to this resort, so the breakfast could be like a flea market. Kids screaming and running, people starting to lose their patience, waitress about to unable to cover all the tables....
The kids club is great. Big, a lot of classes and activities. But just for couples, many a smaller resort with fewer families might be more private and exquisite.

My partner and I needed an overnight hotel before we caught our international flight out. I booked the JW Marriott Phuket Resort & Spa because it was close to the Airport and also one of the few resorts offering one night only stays over Christmas. We were not disappointed! It was really hard to leave the hotel this morning after only one night. We will definitely be back to stay a few more nights at this hotel. From the friendly airport transfers to the effortless check in, I thought I was in heaven, then I entered my room! Both my partner and I gasped and it was PERFECT. Lots of space, luxury creature comforts and more than we could have wised for our last night in Phuket. Not wanting to waste any time we went straight to the pool for a cold beverage and some food. I ordered the cheeseburger and it was delicious. My partner ended up convincing me that he needed half of it!!! There was a beautiful band playing and the sun was shining. We spent the afternoon by the pool soaking up the sunshine, then went back to the room for a quick nap before dinner. I ate at Kabuki and had teppanyaki. Not exactly the same as in Australia, and more expensive, but well worth the visit. We both loved our dinner and then headed onto the shop onsite for a chocolate ice cream and some chocolates. A nice walk around the resort was a perfect way to top off the evening. The breakfast was the best I have seen in Phuket so far. Absolutely amazing! While this resort is expensive it is well worth the splurge! I know next time we come to Phuket we will try and spend a few days at this resort to end off the holiday in luxury.

Spent a few days at the JW, with friends who have a time-share with them. Lovely apartment, quite spacious, and ideal for 2 couples, with 2 ensuites provided. Heaps of people there, being just before Christmas, but was delighted to find the two outside pools with plenty of room for real swimming. Pool amenities for children meant many were playing in/near the central pool, which was great for those who wanted more peace and quiet near the outer pools. Lovely touches too - iced water brought around regularly, cold towels at midday, and even little fruit bowls provided.
No complaints whatsoever about the resort, just found it limited for those who like to do more than loll around. OK, we did yoga and pilates, which were great, & took a bike ride, but Phuket Town is a 45 minute shuttle bus ride away (about $A 17). Taxis about $A 32 each way. Hard also, to avoid eating at resort prices, though eventually we found simple and good Thai food nearby. Turn right out of the sea-side of the Marriott, walk for 5 minutes along the beach perimeter, past the Anantara next door, & you will come to a little street with a couple of basic shacks cooking seafood you can choose yourself. Had some lovely meals there for a mere pittance.
Oh, and it is now 500 baht for the taxi from the airport to the Marriott.

Room Tip: The timeshares are excellent quality

We were at the JW Marriott for a wedding. The place was perfect for the wedding, and we were able to try out so many of the dining venues, each of which was used as part of the wedding functions.

The rooms were well appointed, and the staff went out of their way.

We noted that when we wanted to "keep" some of the places open, the staff were not able to accomodate. But we made it work, nonetheless!

There was one incident, at the Adults Only pool. Someone decided to call security because someone else was playing music. Rather than simply come and ask nicely to reduce (or remove) the music, it turned into a major fiasco with 5 security guards, someone wearing a badge (Head of Personal Loss or some title like that) and a whole lot of wasted sun bathing time!! If only the hotel staff had asked the people playing the music to turn it off, it would have been much easier.

I really liked the attitude and approach of the staff at this hotel, apart from the one incident. They are hard working, and aim to please.

We really enjoyed the alternative massages by the beach (much cheaper than the spa).

We didnt bring our kids with us, but there were many many families with little ones. We liked having kids around, but for some of the couples without children, I could sense the insecurity, at times!

Room Tip: Ground floor rooms are really nice - as they have an outside patio.

We are Marriott owners and decided to try to stay at the Beach Club on a recent trip to Thailand and we are really pleased to have done so. The resort is beautiful and being part of the JW offers many high end amenities that are not usually part of every Vacation Villa. The views over the beach are stupendous and the fire-lit reflection pool in the evening is magical. The swimming pools (with more quiet ones for those of us without little children), restaurants, beach, gym, tennis court and the overall property were all excellent and definitely contributed to our very positive experience. The units are spacious (as are all of the Marriott Vacation Villas that we either own or have stayed in) and we had all needed facilities.
The landscaping is very well done with water features, pathways that meander enough to make you feel you are not just walking around a hotel. The staff are excellent, friendly, very helpful and always extremely polite. We did not mind being away from the "scene" of Phuket. We enjoyed the massages on the beach for $13, the decent pad thai on the beach for $3 and the KinDee restaurant (5 mins drive) all to our liking. Again, this is a beautiful property and one we would definitely visit again if we ever have the chance to come back.

This was our second visit to this property. Last year we arrived at beginning of December and the hotel was 40-45% full. It was fantastic with service and atmosphere to what you get to expect at a JW hotel. We just stayed here and the holiday hoards have descended here.
The place was 98% full with screaming children in all the pools and at the restaurants. We had to wait until 9.00pm to avoid the crowds. The service was stretched to the limits with subsequent bad attention to details. Sunset drinks were replaced with drinks in the room to avoid the unending cries of tired children. So if you have kids then this may be the perfect location but if you are contemplating a romantic getaway suggest you give this place a miss and go to the Regent which was by far a better luxurious experience.

Room Tip: Ground floor rooms have a garden setting which make the stay far more relaxing upper floor rooms hav...

Charles S, Manager at JW Marriott Phuket Resort & Spa, responded to this review, December 26, 2013
Dear Lavite1954,

Thank you for sharing your thoughts on JW Marriott Phuket Resort & Spa. It's always frustrating to hear of moments during the stay of our guests where their expectaions have not been met. The festive season is always a very busy time for us with so many returning families making the most of the school break. We work hard in preparing the team and ensuring we have additional options for the expected surge in business levels but it seems that we were not 100% on this occasion and I'm sorry for that. I am pleased that your time in Phuket was enjoyable overall. Best wishes to you for this festive season. Charles
