Breaking a long journey south, we chose one night in this delightful B&B as it's so close to Lac de Vassiviere, where we spent a peaceful and pleasant afternoon before arriving to a friendly welcome. It happened that the family and friends of Christopher (who is English) were also staying, so all the conversation was in English. Frankie is French and fluent in English, so no problems of communication for English visitors, who are all treated as family with apéros or coffees in the comfy sitting room. Parking is just over the road, and rooms overlook the lake or road. Christopher and Frankie have furnished their house with all sorts of characterful objects and period furniture that make it a delightful place to stay. Our room (green) was coolly and restfully decorated and had a great big shower. We slept well, even though the mattress was a little softer than we're used to, and had a jolly breakfast with home made jams and lots of coffee in a lovely room overlooking the lake. The evening meal was a highlight. Christopher is an excellent cook, his creamy blue cheese and leek soup just what was needed on a cool May evening that denied us the lake (drained for cleaning- won't be forever) and pretty terrace. At €48 for the room and 20 for a splendid four-course meal with aperitif, wine and coffee included, this really is excellent value, and the hosts go out of their way to make you welcome and content.
