“Outstanding views, friendly, helpful service and comfortable room”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed August 28, 2012

We often go to Montefollonico for wine or for lunch but as this was a landmark celebration year we booked into La Costa for the night too on a half-board basis. Elisa was very helpful in making some special arrangements for our stay and the owners Paula and Paulo provided a friendly, attentive service at dinner. They were also very dog-accomodating.
The view from our room and its large balcony, (and from the restaurant terrace and pool) is wonderful with the Val dei Chiana spread out below, Cortona at the other side with the surrounding hills and to the South-East Lake Trasimeno and its islands and towns. As the sun moves there is always a new feature of the landscape to see.
Our included dinner was fine (maybe we had eaten too much at lunchtime to do it justice!) and a special chocolaty zuppa inglese was made for the celebration. Breakfast - again on the terrace with the view was also fine.
The pool is fine for cooling off and lounging by but you will be lucky to get one swimming stroke in before turning round. The "jacuzzi" shower in the room was a bit of an unnecessary complication but you certainly felt clean all over afterwards!

Room Tip: Make sure you get the views and preferably the large balcony.

the ride here from castel del piano was beautiful.the welcome we got from the owners was very warm.he even helped me carry the luggage up to our room with a view.that doesn't happen very often these days.the room was full of atmosphere.both the bathroom and the bedroom had a view of val di chiana.the bed was comfortable, the shower was jacuzzi and there was air conditioning.the restaurant was classy with an extensive menu.breakfast was good except for the ordinary jam.coffee very good and they were courteous and helpful even when busy.the town is magnificent and the people are friendly.the area is full of places to visit.i would like to go back.

Room Tip: ask for a room with a view of the val di chiana.

We traveled to Europe, actually got into Frankfurt, Germany on 09/11/2001 which was totally scary. Mother-in-law was living in Ramstein, Germany at the time as part of her job of pediatrician on airbase. We traveled all through Germany, Switzerland, some of Austria and Italy. We stayed at LaCosta during part of our trip and totally fell in love with this place and the owners. The view is beyond spectacular and their restaurant has excellent food. We went back in March 2003 and stayed here again with my parents. We were traveling through europe for 17 days. I would go back in a heartbeat if airfare weren't so expensive right now. Cannot recommend this place enough. It was a dream.

I was living near this place and from time to time trying food from this restaurant. In general, it was a place where I tried typical and well recommended Tuscan food. I recall Ribollita and various types of bruschette :). On top of it, it was a great place, a little bit formal, for having amazing time with your nearest friends. Take your time and arrive, you can have a breathtaking look at the panorama of Val di Chiana.

My wife and I stayed at this property as part of a four day trip in Tuscany. We had driven from Florence to Greve-in-Chianti and then on to Montefollonico, which is a tiny little village up in the hills off the road connecting Montepulciano and Pienza.

The property itself is spread out with a large indoor restaurant as well as balconies over multiple levels which I imagine would lend themselves well to parties and weddings etc. We met Paolo the owner just as we were checking in, and he greeted us very warmly and asked us if we were comfortable. We were shown to a room with a large attached balcony with the most spectacular views of the Tuscan countryside. The room was quite large with a nice rustic feel but with funky settings on a very 21st century shower in the bathroom:-)

After checking in we sat down for a drink in the bar adjoining the guests' dining area and chatted with Paolo, who served us drinks himself, while telling us a little bit about how he came to own the place. Following a couple of glasses of excellent wine, we had a wonderful dinner with some pretty amazing dessert. I kept eyeing the bottles of Tignanellos displayed right next to me but didn't get down to ordering a bottle:-)

The village itself can be explored in a fifteen minute walk, and is quite quaint. One has to park outside the walls, but any point inside is unlikely to be more than a five minute direct walk away. It is a great base for reaching Pienza, Montepulciano etc

This was a memorable stay due to a very beautiful property and warm hosts. If you really want to get away from it all, it's a great place to spend a few days, especially since Montefollonico doesn't seem to be one of the standard Tuscan destinations so is very quiet and peaceful compared to Pienza, San Gimignano etc which are crawling with tourists.

Room Tip: Make sure you get a room with a veiw of the countryside

Gorgeous setting, great view of the countryside. The restaurant is excellent. Rooms clean and comfortable, balcony rooms provide great vistas. The owners and employees are friendly and nice. Location in old part of town in heart of Tuscany allows great day trips to explore the beautiful region. Local wines and foods served that are incredible. Relaxing.

We have stayed at Residenza d'Epoca La Costa several times. We would not think of going to Italia without a stop. The rooms are wonderful, views pictures cannot capture. The owners and staff have become personal friends. Location is excellent for easy day trips to many Tuscan hill top towns. Easy access to the train station for further excursions. The food is EXCELLENT! If you really want to experience Tuscany you will visit Residenza d'Epoca La Costa...and when you do, say ciao to my friends.
