“Hobie Cat Sailing at Turtle Beach”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed March 23, 2010

My thanks must go first to Dan, a Monarch pilot who was on holiday a week before I arrived and managed to repair the Hobie Cat, so that it could be sailed. He also repaired the second smaller cat during his second week, so, thanks to Amanda for putting up with this. The main reason for coming here for my 65th birthday was to sail hobie cats, so without Dan I would have been really disappointed. Overall it was great value for money, we had a ground floor room, 146, I found the staff to be friendly and helpful. We had an anti mossie plug-in and worked a treat, no bites. Thanks to all the bar staff, especially, Jason, David and Raul.

We returned last week from tobago after spending two weeks relazing in the caribbean sun. We travelled with our one year old son and extended family, we found most of the hotel staff very friendly (there is always a few exceptions). The food in the one and only restaurant was lovely however on some occasions if you was later arriving there was not always a lot available and had to wait 10mins or so for some to be cooked, drinks could also take a while to be served as not enough staff! Overall we had a nice time and as long as you don't expect too much you shouldn't be too dissapointed with this hotel it's in a lovely spot nice wide beach (the sea can be a bit rough at times) with a nice swimming pool, rooms were cleaned daily.

I just returned from another week of wonderful sunshine and entertainment at Rex Turtle Beach. .... Everything was GREAT!
The locals are full of fun and come with many interesting names such as 'Criminal' or 'Blacks', 'Scout' or 'Engine'. If you meet Keith from the 'A Team' then you are in safe hands (big hands and a big heart at that). Smile and wish them well and they will be watching out for you during your stay. This is a good thing, not a bad thing.
It is not a palce for those who want a really plush, walled-off hotel, disconected from real life with armed guards who are not required. So for me, it is the palce to be.
Bless up Tobago and Turtle Beach and see you soon.
PS I noticed that the last reviewer had a few issues with the Manager,(I'm guessing, Mr David Hairston?). I had some too,..in my opinion he is a young man who has much to learn and totaly unsuited for this particular role. But, that is for the senior board of Rex Resorts to sort out (ASAP Please).

Overall, we enjoyed our stay at Turtle Beach.

Lovely beach but sea very rough - we went under the 1st day & didn't dare venture in again. However, they have a nice clean pool.

The rooms are basic although we ended up in one we were relatively happy with - a big bed & efficient air conditioning. Not true of every room. Don't pay for a superior room as they don't exist - the superior deal only included things like free room service, fridge re-stock & 1 free a la carte meal. Not worth the extra money. Ground floor rooms are the best if you want to step straight on to the beach. All rooms are sea facing.

It is definitely a 3* - don't come here if you want luxury. They could improve on the cleanliness of the public areas especially tables & chairs in the pool bar & around the pool.

We enjoyed the food which is varied, fresh & hot. There were quite a few local dishes which didn't suit everybody but we enjoyed them. if you're a vegetarian tell them as the standard fare will be very limited for you.

Drinks vary according to who makes them but generally very nice. Plenty of local rum! Bar does shut early though - meant to be 12 but usually earlier.

Most staff members were nice & helpful. Best way is to greet everybody with a smile & you'll find they respond.

Tobago is a beautiful island with nice, friendly people. We felt very safe & enjoyed 'liming with the locals'. Woody & his son Akel (on the beach) are great guys who will look after you if you go on a trip with them. Don't believe the stories you'll get from the reps telling you not to go with the locals. They know the island better than anybody else. Some of the organised trips aren't worth it, e.g. trip to Sunday school 35$ with Virgin. They take you there early & bring you back at 11 p.m. just when things are starting. Go with a local or take a taxi. It will cost you about £20 & you can go & come as you choose. It's a great night out.

Rooms clean with new flat screen TV Excellent food with a great variation of culinary delights Lovely quiet beach with Pelicans diving for fish against a back drop of local fishermen pulling in thier nets We found the staff helpful and curtious The place could do with a pressure washer in places but remember this is only 3 star All in all a great holiday The Manager has his finger on the pulse

the bathroom left a lot to be desired, everythink leaked, toilet never flushed, very little cold water, the staff had bad manners, the food was the same most nights, we had to make our own coffee after dinner, the beach cabanas were dirty and full of bird mess, all they seemed interested in was cutting costs, this is one place that we shall not be returning too. In our opinion this resort needs to be up-graded

Very pleasantly surprised with Hotel. Lovely location on very quiet beach. Service efficient, food was excellent with great choices. We took b&b option, ate in hotel about 50% of the time. There was no snack menu, which was a disadvantage for us. Most people were all inclusive. Room cleaning was ten out of ten. Managers were very assessable, they had a table at breakfast time where people could join them to discuss problems or ask questions.
We took Island Tour with Jameson. He was an excellent guide. Boat trips were booked through Woody, on beach. They were great crack. We missed nature trip advertised in hotel as guy was away. That comes very highly recommended. Sea was quite rough, unsuitable for young children or inexperienced swimmers that particular week. Plymouth is very interesting non touristy village 15 mins. walking distance along beach or road. Nite life in hotel was pleasant, live local music. Pool fabulous & very large.
Hotel room very nice with good A/C and balcony
