“excellent value for all inclusive in a good location”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed March 31, 2012

We signed up for this hotel despite mixed reviews. The location was wonderful, and we loved some of the local life adjacent on the public beach. Fishermen, birds, local kids, beach-sellers.... The chef tried hard to help us with our vegetarian diet, and we did have some memorable meals. The all inclusive booking meant we ate and drank plenty- the bar staff could have had a bit more charisma and warmth! The entertainments were good a couple of nights, but not every night. Yes, the hotel could do with some redecoration, but you certainly got value for money. Some of the reception staff were wonderful- and helped when our inbound luggage was delayed. Lots of Trinidadians came here after Carnival to chill out- tells you something about the hotel! Once we met up with the managers at their meet and greet evening, they were very warm and gave us a huge bunch of flowers and champagne for our silver anniversary! The swimming pool is really good. The sea was occasionally violent, and we were discouraged from taking the kayaks out a few days- correctly so!. The rip curl was quite fierce on the beach adjacent to the hotel- calmer a few hundred yards either side. Good beach for sand -sculpting if anyone is interested! Our timings meant we missed the turtles! So we made some out of sand....

And it was easy enough to go anywhere around the island and see the sights, birds and trees. Tobago has lots to see and it was a delightful memorable holiday.

Room Tip: the vast majority face the beach

The exterior of the hotel is shabby and mossy. the bathroom of the room was recently refurbished and looks great. the room itself needs a serious upgrade and the living/sleeping furnishings look like they have been there since the 70s. I requested a transformer from the front desk to plug my laptop into and what was supplied was a massive archaic piece of iron/copper (see attached pic).
The nightly live entertainment was terrific and the food was excellent with a varied mix of local and foreign inspired cuisine. the nearby beach (located on the compound) was excellent.
all in all, if you are going to swim, sun bathe and eat alot, this place is for you. if you are going to lounge in your room all day, perhaps check another hotel.

Room Tip: Choose a room closer to the reception area. the walk to rooms further away can be a bit long

This hotel is great. 15 minutes form the hotel and you arrive in a secluded quiet area with a nice, if not perfect beach. The rooms are decent, spacious and all sea facing.

The food is good, varied each night, but limited to one restaurant which is a shame, but the staff are attentive and after a week here I have to say for a 3 star I am impressed with the food. The T-Bone steak night was excellent!

The facilities are decent, nice pool, but quite shallow. A swim up bar and sports hut that offers a decent variety of water sports.

If I came again I would maybe have a few nights here to chill and see Scarborough and the south coast, but the main attractions are at the north end of the Island. The waterfalls, rainforest, Little Tobago and others. However it is only a short 45-60 minute drive to these areas and it beautiful scenery on the way.

15 minutes from this hotel though is some great dive sites and good local attractions. And right outside the hotel on the beach are a group of Pelicans and Frigate bords that offer a lot of entertainment as they dive bomb the fish in the sea (Pelicans) and fisherman bringing in their catch (Frigate birds). I would certainly recommend this place to anyone planning on a trip to the West Indies.

Of course what it has to trump most other hotels is the Turtles. We have seen one huge Leatherback giving birth right outside our room one night around midnight. This alone makes it a great place. And if you are coming at the start or end of the turtle nesting season it worth a week at least.

Room Tip: All rooms are sea facing so your only choice is how far down you go. Away from the pool and restaura...

Truly an experience, would return in a heartbeat and would definitely recommend to others. The service was great, the food was excellent. Our family had a time! It was really worth it.

We went to Turtle Beach on a family vacation in December, the place was infested with mosquitoes, the bathroom was full of mold, there was cobweb on the ceiling. The exterior of the building was terrible, the pool had lots of mold and there was hair and other things floating in the pool by bunches. The water spouting outside was black with muck and the walls was the same, the fixtures and furniture was old and out dated. Dining in the restaurant was a turnoff, the dishes was old and tarnished, the door at the back was full of cobweb, the chairs was moldy and ambiance was not nice and the staff was unfriendly. I would not visit this hotel a second time nor would I recommend it to my family and friends. The only thing I recommend to Turtle Beach is to pull resources from the other Hotels and update this one. People need to feel at home when they are on holiday, not be turned off, after all there are so many hotels in Tobago better than this one.
