“Do it once”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed August 8, 2013

It was our last day in Jamaica and the only thing left we really wanted to do was go see Bob Marley, so we hired a taxi for about $100 and took the 1 hour journey up the mountain. The road is very narrow, winding, and has a cliff on one side. This was a little scary! It was interesting to see the villages in the mountains, the fields, and the mining in the red soil. When we got there Bob Marley's place is gated off from the rest of the town, which is a good thing because citizens were everywhere trying to grab you and get your attention to give them money. We went inside a small shop first where there is no hydro so its very dark. Then we climbed lots of stairs to get to the restaurant area which was alright. The tour began in a room full of records and memoribilia, then we listened to a band play Dont Worry. We entered Mt Zion, saw his grandparents' graves, then entered his masoleum. This was quiet and peaceful, we lit a candle. Then we looked around his house, yard, and sat on his meditation rock. The tour guide took us back to the main building and asked for tips. The whole tour was only about 20minutes. We felt this was a bit of a rip off and would have like to have looked around more instead of basically being told to leave. It was a cool place to go to say you have been but it really isnt all that exciting. Its too commercialized.

“Humbled”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed August 8, 2013

High in the mountains with fantastic scenery. Friendly guide who was very knowledgeable about Bob and also very entertaining. We had to take shoes off to go into Bobs tomb which was no problem. The resting place itself was beautiful and really took my breath away as you can feel a sort of spirit in the room. Would most certainly visit again. Enlightening experience

“Prepare to walk”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed August 7, 2013

We stayed in Ocho Rios, Jamaica and the Bob Marley Mausoleum is not a "hop, skip, and a jump" from there. We made the reservations once we arrived at the Riu and I asked how long the drive was and they said 45 minutes, which I thought it was a lot longer than that. Turns out I was right, it's more like a 2 hour drive, specially if you are on a bus and having to stop at other resorts along the way to pick up passengers. So plan a ton of time away from your resort, more like 7 hours. Once we arrived the group gathered around a small window in the wall to buy marijuana. Then the tour was to start. You have to climb about 35 - 40 stairs to get to the starting point. You have a chance to go through a gift shop, the small museum and see the house where he was born, but essentially all you can see is the gable end as it is right next to the deck of the building you're in. You then walk around to see the locals playing music for you, but it's not for free, they will be asking for tips. Finally at this point your real trek starts up a large hill to get to his and his mother's actual resting place. You have to take your shoes off and leave them outside before entering either of the mausoleums, as they don't allow shoes of any kind inside. Which is fine, just something to be aware of. If Bob Marley really interests you then you probably won't mind these obsticles, so go ahead and live the experience. If he's not "your cup of tea" or your kind of "smoke 'em, if you got 'em", then it might be a place to forego.

“Expensive”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed July 18, 2013

The ride was a fun experience. The mausoleum is high in the mountains. It was nice to pay tribute to Bob but I wouldn't do it twice. I think the price is too expensive. The stairs were tough for my 68 year old mother
