“Great Hotel but minor bad service”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed January 11, 2013

Banyan Tree hotel is always a great and trustable hotel to stay at, but also you will expect perfect service at the same time. We had dinner at the Ju Ma Na fine dining restaurant and I ordered a bottle of red wine from wine menu stated year 1993, but the waitress brought the same wine but year 1995, however the waitress didn't point out the year difference until I asked her it is not the year I ordered then she admitted "no, this is not the year I ordered", so I was quite disappointed that in such a fine dining restaurant and being cheated like this. Hopefully this message will improve the quality of service.

My husband and I stayed at the Banyan Tree Ungasan for our honeymoon for six nights and were not disappointed. There needs to be more words in the dictionary to describe how perfect it was!

We stayed in a sea view villa and after checking in spent the first half hour walking around in disbelief at what a nice room we were staying in! The photos on the website don't do it justice - it is AMAZING. Our villa was bigger than our house at home!

From check in, we were greeted by the friendliest staff and throughout our stay every single staff member we met was always just lovely and so willing to help us with anything that we needed.

The resort compound itself is just stunning and really well designed. There are constantly people working to maintain the gardens and rooms and it shows. Visually it was a stunning and well kept resort.

Another benefit was that while we were there we were told the resort was at approximately 70% capacity but despite being close to full, you always got the sense that this was your own little private spot.

The breakfast buffet was unbelievable!! As a real foodie, heading down to breakfast each morning was a highlight with so many delicious and well prepared options - only downside was I'm pretty sure I put on a few kilos from all the delectable goodies (my own fault though).

The onsite restaurants were also fantastic - Jumana a must eat at destination!

The real highlights for us though were without doubt the rooms (which are meticulously cleaned and turned down each day - private pool is also amazing) and the staff, who are so nice and seem to genuinely care about the stay their guests have, which is a major change from most other hotels and resorts I've stayed at.

Minor downsides - which can also be viewed as a plus is that the resort is located a little way out of town meaning you rely on the resort for most meals etc. However, the secluded spot also means that you don't see many other tourists and the food and service they provide is reasonably priced and first class. Only other disappointment was that the night we wanted to book in-room dining we missed out, so if you're considering this - book early!

Overall though - just an amazing stay and would love to go back. For any couples looking for a romantic getaway who want lovely accommodation, privacy, good service and delicious meals I would recommend Banyan Tree Ungasan time and time again.

I really enjoyed the stays in banyantree esp. for the Cliff Edger Dining for new year celebration, very impressed. The service was really detailed with kindness. I like the shining smiles on banyantree staff's faces. It let me feel cozy, homelike.

We arrived here with the expectations of high standards that a banyantree resort is to offer. reality exceeded expectations, we didn't want any surprises as we had early-checked out from other hotel in Ubud, and we found here meals, vilas space, pools, spa, meals, wine, service, attentions, details, decorations, comfort, etc,.... everything mentioned was great, subtle, extraordinaire. Relation quality to price is great. Choices of restaurants, spa therapies, we realized that banyantree resort is really something else. not enough words. hopefully we'll be back soonest as possible. Truly unforgettable experience.

Room Tip: We checked different type of vilas and it was hard to make a choice, all of them were gorgeous.Amazi...

My family spent 3D/2N last month enjoying this serene beautifully landscape resort. Service was warm & excellent with a personal touch. Food was fabulous. Much effort has been put into the landscape providing an ambiance comfortable and inviting to just laze and relax around, enjoying the peace and quiet away from the hustle & bustle of the city. Lovely place!!! Unforgettable experience!!!

One of the best resorts we've been to. Our comparables include top notch resorts in the maldives, tahiland and bali.

Villas. Best villa ever. Enormous living room and private plunge pool. Probably too big to be called a plunge pool. Abt 7 meters long? We stayed at an ocean view villa. Not really an ocean view. Think better to go either cliff or garden view.

Beach. Beautiful private/very secluded beach. Not sure why more guests dont make their ways down to this beautiful beach! Although it says u cant swim, u actually can if u are an intermediate/advanced swimmer. During the low tides, was able to swim around/through the corals and befriend various types of fish. Probably the best aspect of this resort especially when there really isnt any pure white sand/private beach in bali.

Foods. Ok, so this is one of the areas that need improvements. Especially Bambu! Staffs there are pretty much clueless and not so friendly. Sorry, but the manager there needs to brighten up a little. Not so friedly especially during breakfasts. Maybe the guy needs to sleep more. Also the kithen is extermely slow. Takes forever to get anythig. Also the menu.. Limited and the quality is subpar especially when compared to other banyan restaurants we have been to.

Overall, the resort deserves five stars for all categories if it werent for Bambu. Having said that, u probably cant find any better resorts in bali, so should go for it.
