Located in the heart of the old Phuket town just right next to the China Inn Cafe, the restaurant is a family owned business and there are actually two restaurant halls right next to each other: one is WiLAI Restaurant (威萊菜館) which has been in business for over 10 years and now serves only breakfast and is operated by the owner and his wife Wilai, the building next door is Kopitiam by WiLAI - Cafe & Restaurant, serves only lunch and dinner and is operated by their lovely young daughter. What I love about this restaurant is its wonderful interior setting and good authentic food at very reasonable price. The restaurant building has local historic characters just like the old town itself, walls are decorated with many vintage photographs of Phuket during the early 20th century, good dining atmosphere.
About the food: menu is quite extensive, though you don't see those fancy dishes here like fresh lobsters in Patong, this restaurant serves mostly classic home-made local dish, food is well prepared. I ordered mango shake, Penang curry chicken (yes it is a genuine Thai curry dish, not Malaysian style unlike its name), and fry thin rice noodle (forgot exact dish name), all were very authentic in flavor and tasty, in addition, this is not one of those so-called famous restaurants on TA that have "modified" food taste to westerners preference (like Suay for example), so if you like original, then this is the right place for you. The bill came at 280 B for all three dishes and a drink, excellent value.
P/S: I didn't expect the drink to be that good in a restaurant but surprisingly the mango shake i ordered is the best I've tried in Phuket.
