“Relaxed hotel with limitations”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed April 6, 2013

Stayed with the family for 10 nights and found all the staff incredibly helpful and friendly. Make sure you book through their website as the breakfast is too limited to really be chargeable and it got a bit boring having to regularly asked the single member of staff to top things up...
The pool is really nice on the top floor if a bit shallow and unfortunately both my daughter and I picked up nasty ear and eye infections which the doctor put down to the pool.
The walk into town/beach is fine but the best beach is in Kata - a 300B taxi away where the waves aren't too much for small children.
Our rooms were on the 2nd floor and were perfectly fine except for the odd night where we had noisy neighbours above us who partied quite late...
We will defintely return to Phuket but probably not to Karon...we found Kata a lot nicer.
One last tip - if you use the Spa in the hotel suggest that you take all your jewellery off before any treatment..we had a very unfortunte experience when a gold necklace went missing only to turn up 48 hours later..

uncle-eric, Owner at Pacific Club Resort, responded to this review, April 25, 2013
We normally like to thank every Guest for visiting and placing a review.

This response is a MUST READ for prospective Guests.

One thing these folks are correct about is the fact Pacific Club is a relaxed atmosphere. In fact it's so relaxed Guests often leave their cameras, phones, and other things around the resort and our staff faithfully turn them in to reception where the Guest is always happy to find their belongings were recovered.

However, in this case we are quite disappointed to see several seriously negative comments. We care considerably about our Guests and the reviews they place. We leave no issues open and investigate them all. So please allow me to confront the issues, in best to worst order:

First, these folks booked a room rate without breakfast on a third party site. After giving us significant flack and indirectly threatening us with a bad review we comped them continental breakfast. Guests who take advantage of the extra savings available when booking directly on our website also get a complimentary FULL breakfast. Our full breakfast first includes our signature buffet featuring a wide variety of homemade bakery products, but also Belgian waffles (not the kind from a mix but rather we make them fresh using real whipped egg whites etc), salad bar, cereal bar, fruit bar, omelette station, Thai foods section, baked beans w/sausage (mostly for our British Guests), and bacon. And secondly, our breakfast Guests are allowed to choose from menu items such as our signature Eggs Benedict, Huevos Rancheros, etc… On account of this review we will no longer comp any breakfast. We highly recommend folks do their due diligence and check rates and inclusions on our website instant booking system if you're interested to get breakfast included free of charge. Everyone else pays 250 baht or about 8 USD which compares to 375 baht up at Accor properties and 700 baht up at Marriott properties.

Second, regarding the pool water quality. These folks were misinformed by a speculative doctor trying to get them out of the office or it was simply another blackmail attempt to complain about the water quality. Our pool is equipped with not 1 but 3 systems fully capable to purify the water by themselves:

* We have a salt water chlorinating system (with two redundant Jandy chlorinators each of which is ample to provide total purification of a pool our size). The water quality is tested each day for all main parameters including chlorine which is kept at 1.5 - 2.0 ppm.

* We also have an ozone purification system which would also be adequate without any other systems.

* We also have Anti-Bio system which is used in public water parks around Australia.

* Finally we also have redundant state of the art Hayward DE water filters which offer cutting edge filtration down to 2 microns.

Anyone who knows anything about pool systems would say we have a quadruple Benz system. We also invite any of our Guests to inspect our systems room and water quality test logs.

Third, the inference we had anything to do with their so called "lost / stolen / reappearing necklace" should be completely disregarded. These Guests initially threatened us with a bad review if we didn't pay them $8,000 USD for the necklace. After my staff assisted the Guests to file a police report, I also had our resident IT supervisor who is Australian interview the Guests as well to make sure there were no language issues. It became apparent the Guest is in the insurance broker business. So I then called the Guests from USA, where I was visiting family at the time, to remind them the Thai police now take bogus theft reports for the purpose of collecting insurance fraud very seriously and actually arrest people found to be involved in it. I asked them to take another good look around their room. It was shortly thereafter when the necklace "mysteriously re-appeared". Now I'm not saying that's what they did but I would kindly recommend anyone who is involved in filing bogus theft reports to avoid Pacific Club because, not only is it a small place where we have total control of security, but also we disagree with insurance fraud and will assist the police in uncovering any instances which occur at our property. Another interesting fact of this story is, if you check their TA profile, these Guests reported theft at another highly rated hotel, maybe these folks are just "prone" to having things go missing and blaming it on somebody else.

Another note on the "stolen / reappearing" $8,000 necklace. Pacific Club is run by myself and my extended family with support of our resident staff. We make many 100's of thousands of dollars every year from our hospitality business, the thought of my niece (the only person with a key to the room safes) having anything to do with the "stolen" necklace being mysteriously replaced in their room safe is ludicrous. If we had discovered any staff had anything to do with the disappearing necklace we would NOT have quietly arranged for the necklace to be replaced in their safe but rather WE WOULD HAVE quite publicly filed charges against the offender, informed the Guests, posted photos in the staff canteen, local newspapers etc. to make a proper example. We take any report of theft very seriously although we have yet in 8 years of operation at Pacific Club to see any theft report validated. Ask the General Manager at almost any respectable property and you'll find that theft of traceable goods is non-existent for obvious reasons and now that folks use credit cards and ATM machines, valid reports of cash theft have practically disappeared.

Kind Regards and Happy Traveling,

Eric

Relaxed atmosphere and comfortable friendly service, the Pacific Club Resort was an ideal location to enjoy a peaceful holiday. The Hotel is located in the northern part of Karon Beach and about 10 to 15 minutes walk from the township and the beach. A Tuk Tuk ride back made sense at the end of a day on the beach - usually 200BHT. This slight removal from being in the centre of the town and the beach proved not to be an issue. The rooftop pool was a pleasant alternative to the beach and the poolside service was a plus.

The outstanding feature of the hotel was the reasonably priced and extensive breakfast - we ate in the hotel every day and that has certainly not been our practice generally. Often the cost and the 'factory' smorgasboard breakfasts offered by many institutions quickly convinces us to look elsewhere for a good value breakfast. The Pacific Club Resort was an exception - their breakfasts were consistently outstanding with good personalised service and a really relaxed unhurried feel that resulted in long leisurely familty chats!

The overall service in the hotel was of high quality. The advice on options and the arrangements for side trips were given with sincerity and confidence. The feel of the service provided was relaxed and intimate. There was none of the offputting, bureaucratic overtones you experience in the hotel chain environments. We were impressed by the genuine and honest approach we experienced.

The Pacific Resort Hotel is not a business hotel, it is focused on giving families a comfortable and pleasant experience and a base to explore what Phuket has to offer.

Awesome roof top pool with amazing views of the Karon Beach area! We booked a last minute deal on their website and totally lucked out with a giant suite for almost half price - amazing room with a view!! The beach and Karon town is about a 15min walk down the hill, but after a few cocktails in the sun it's not such a bad idea (taxis will cost ya more than other areas of Thailand). The hot tub and free herbal steam room are very cool, and there is even a mini bridge with a waterfall. We had a miserable ride in a minibus from the Phuket airport and we were not that stoked to be stuck in the area for a night, but we were so glad to arrive at luxurious Pacific Club to relax after we made it through the Patong war zone. Treat yourself, this is a solid pick.

Room Tip: If you need a nice place to crash for a night and don't mind rolling the dice, then book a last...

We stayed at Pacific Club Resort for the first week of March with a whole lot of other friends. Great location, friendly staff, good food, superb poo on the 5th floor with a magnificent viewl. We actually met a couple who were there for six weeks, they said they love the place so much they keep coming back - I can totally understand.

Room Tip: Room 204 was lovely and spacious - equipped kitchen, lounge area with balcony.

It was our first Thailand experience the hotel is spotless the service is great , Win from the reception is good and helpfull. The hotel is 5 minutes walk from the beach and I think is the best choice because you have many good things like jacuzzi and thermal sauna free is good for relaxing. The only bad thing is that you have to pay the vat and service charge. Overall a very nice place and well maintained .

A lovely surprise when we arrived as we had been upgraded to a huge suite.
The hotel is at the top of a very steep hill and perhaps this is the only downside (no joke intended)
It has been thoughtfully decorated and is on the whole attractive.
It is very spacious yet only a small number of rooms and so there is a great deal of space to go round. sometimes you felt as though you had the place to yourself.
The pool area, on the roof, is wonderful. you can spend ages dangling in the water gazing out over the scene, mountains and sea.
Our suite was faultless. The bathroom was luxurious with bath and very big shower lots of towels replaced daily.
The bed huge and extremely comfortable and the linen very good. The hanging and storage space more than adequate.
The room was cleaned and tidied to a high standard and it was always a pleasure to come back.
Perhaps the provision of coffee could have been more generous.
We did not have breakfast, but did eat in the evening on one occasion and the food was good. (we only had one poor meal the whole time we were in Thailand)
The walk to the beach was easy as was to the town, the walk back a little harder! A nearby hotel offered a shuttle service to the town and perhaps this is something they could consider.
The staff were helpful and friendly and altogether I would go back tomorrow or even today!
I was very sad to leave.

From the miute we saw our apartment to the minute we left Pacific Club we enjoyed total pampering. My wife and I staayed in late March. On arrival we were given an upgrade. And what an upgrade! To the owner's private apartment complete with a huge roof terrace bigger than our garden at home.

The rooms were decorated to a high standard, marble and hardwood, and the whole place oozed luxury. We were probably paying well under half what this place was worth. Very comfortable bed, lovely bathroom, huge sitting room and kitchen area.

The rooftop pool was superb. What could be better than a ten o'clock swim in the infinty pool, gazing down toards the sea as a preparatrion for bed. I also used the herbal sauna and jacuzzi evry day. Great for unwinding. Very spacious public areas, friendly and obliging staff and a serene atmospher.

The hotel is about 10 minutes walk from the town and the return trip is partly uphill, but this wasn't a problem. Much better to be on high ground. Compared with other areas of Thailand, Phuket is generally quite a bit more expensive, and although Karon beach still offers great bathing, the town is becoming commercialised. Go before it's too late.

Room Tip: Ask for a room with a view.
