My wife and I were staying at another 5 star hotel in Chalong Bay(Chalong Bay Beach Hotel) which was wonderful, but decided that we wanted to explore more of Phuket by car, and decided to move up to Karon. Closer to Patang, but quieter! We had booked online into another Hotel( the
Rattana) but, thats' another horror story!! The room at the Rattana was $100+ /nite, and the room which was on a side street, smelled of fish as,we found out th room(small) was situated beside the Kitchen outvent! When we checked the bathroom, the toilet still had the last visitor's deposit in it...unflushed!!! We demanded our money back, and left. We had no idea where we were going to stay, and I went online, and discovered a room was available at the Karon Sea Sands Hotel, for $10 more than we had paid! I took it and we went over.
I cannot describe adequately ,the difference!! When we entered the spacious Lobby area, Sarah McLauglin was Playing thruout the area, friendly staff greeted us like old friends, we were offrered the opportunity of two different rooms, both over looking the beautiful Pool area, and we chose the ground floor. Because it was a Friday, there was a meet and greet party, compliments of the Hotel for all of the guests checking in on that day(a good thing to remember) and it was Heaven!!!, especially given the horror story we had come from (the Rattana) This was, without a doubt, one of the highlights of our entire vacation in Phuket. They treated us like family, and when we return to Thailand, (which we will) This, is where we will land.....Period!!!
On the Beach.close to everything, and, very few Russians! I say this as when we had stayed at Chalong Beach Hotel, and 80% of the guests were Russian, and were extremely unfriendly, which was part of why we decided to move in the first place. I don't say that all Russians are unfriendly, but that was our experience. At this hotel, we found alot of English,Australians, and ex-pats!!! Friendly!!!!!
