“fabulous!”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed January 11, 2013

We stayed here for 9 nights in late November and had a great time. We stayed in the Sino wing on the ground floor and we couldn't have been happier with the room and it's location. It was very clean, bed was hard but very comfy, bath was great and the outdoor shower was handy. The breakfasts were delicious and a'll the staff were very friendlying especially Oh at the tour desk we will definitely be back!

“Good location, not fantastic hotel!”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed January 10, 2013

We recently stayed at old Phuket hotel for 5 nights with our 2 year old daughter. First of the location was great, short walk to restaurants, beach, and massages. The pool is great but at times I felt like I was intruding on the pool access suites, we stayed in the pool view suites in the serene wing (definitely stay in the serene wing) but I recommend staying the pool access suites.
Breakfast was great. The massage hut girls were fantastic and very affordable. The bathrooms were well planned and it was good to have a bath in the room.
Overall I said average because i had to pay for wifi when it should be free, the tv needed fixing and our key didn't work, but these are relatively minor things for the hotel.

Room Tip: The pool access rooms in the serene wing are a must! The sino wing is far from the pool.

“GREAT HOTEL!!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed January 10, 2013

The Old Phuket hotel is truly amazing.
My partner and i was there over the Christamss and New year period. The Christamss and New Year buffet dinner was great, they really went all out in preparing for the special occasions.

Overall, the staff are very friendly and helpful. The rooms are great and the services offered by the hotel are up to standard.
We are very happy and cannot wait to plan our next trip to Phuket. :)

“Dissapointing”
1 of 5 stars Reviewed January 6, 2013

We arrived at the old Phuket resort after staying at the Hilton for 7 nights. The location of the hotel is handy, being only a few minutes walk to the beach and Patak road. I don't want to sound too negative but I am giving you our honest opinion on this hotel on the whole. The breakfast was not nice and was a major sticking point during our stay. A poor selection of items (only 2 cereals, no salami/ham etc ) poached eggs were overcooked and the fruit and perishables were not shielded from insects. There needs to be an air-conditioned indoor area where the food can be kept away from the heat and flies. There was no fresh juice (it was made from concentrate and far too sweet) and there was a poor selection of cold cuts/no pancakes/waffles/ proper croissants or a variety of fresh bread other than white bread from a package). When items were finished they were not replaced immediately. The hotel did not have its own internet connection despite advertising that there was hotel wifi available. It relied on an external provider and the service was faulty and failed for 2 or the days of our stay. When we asked the hotel staff when it would get resolved, it was not prioritised. A supposed 4 star resort should have complimentary or in house wifi (for a small fee) for guests. The staff continued to sell the wifi vouchers despite knowing that it was not working. The staff tried to charge guests 500bht if they lost their access card which I have never experienced at any hotel in the past (including 5 star hotels). We did not lose our cards but found it strange that the hotel tried to extract money out of the guests for loss of these plastic cards (it was perceived by us to be to be a money making exercise by the resort). The "fitness centre" lacked gym equipment/weights/change rooms/showers/air-conditioning/staff on hand which we found to be unacceptable. 1 treadmill and 1 stepper is not classified as a fitness centre and should not be advertised as one. It was almost always empty. When we asked if there were weights we were told to go to the public gym around the corner and pay! The cable television service failed for 1 day of our stay. There were no staff available throughout the resort/pool area to help with requests for towels etc. All of the staff were concentrated in 1 area of the resort (lobby/concierge) The food sold by the pool was of a poor standard and the cheap metal chairs and tables made for an uncomfortable dining experience. Some comfortable padded chairs and nice shaded tables would improve this. The food is an area which needs urgent improvement. I know there are many restaurants nearby, but guests need to have the choice of dining in the resort if they would like to (at a 4 star level, not fast food). There were also not enough loungers available by the pool to accommodate guests in both the "old" and "new" sections of the hotel and noticed that guests were reserving loungers as early as 7am so as to not miss out. This needs to be addressed so that guests can comfortably use the pool facilities/lounge chairs at any time. The rooms themselves were nice, air-confitioned and with nice bathrooms (we were in the new section) however the food/ level of service and the facilities of the hotel were not of the standard we expected for paying over $3000 to stay at this resort. Sorry, but I would not recommend staying at this resort unless these areas were dramatically improved.
