“Perfect Setting with Excellent Staff and Service A++”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed November 18, 2013

This place was just divine, right from the get go to checking out, just exceeded my expectations, did not want to leave so soon, we even extended stay by an extra night. After reading up on nearly all the reviews prior to booking and experiencing first hand 6 nights stay, this is definitely somewhere I would FOR CERTAIN come back to every time I visit Phuket! We got a Scoupon Deal for 5 nights & stayed an extra night in a Panoramic Deluxe Room. To be honest any bad or negative reviews in my opinion would be due to very very picky and fussy people, but the staff or facilities really cannot be knocked. I must admit I am very fussy but this was exactly what I was looking for...Serene, Quiet & peaceful, totally relaxing to just unwind from a busy fast paced working life, it was also not too close to the beach front which I chose (only due to fear of Tsunami's, I wanted something on a hill), but definitely not too far away from beach and only around the corner from local Karon town and shops, location was perfect for us. We left our kids at home, so coming to a resort with no kids suited us, however if we were to return we would like to bring our kids back, however may try somewhere else if the no kids policy is still on here.

Airport transfer we pre-booked was already waiting for us which was a relief as he whisked us away and got us to the resort in no time even though there were a few traffic jams when we neared towards Patong, driver even had cool towels & bottled water for us. We checked in late around 8.30pm-9pm and it was very easy, received a warm welcome from Ann at Reception (throughout our stay Ann was fantastic and very helpful, nothing too much for her, thank you Ann!), we received a cool towel and drink, the check in was quick and shuttle with our luggage to our room was great & convenient. We were checked into 1216 which overlooks the Pomelo Pool (nice quiet pool and great for relaxing) and only a short walk up to the restaurant for breakfast and dinner and to the Cheeva Spa and Mango Pool Bar. The bed was a huge king and slightly hard however that would be because we are so use to our ever so soft expensive mattress we invested in back home (my hubby was fine with the harder style mattress), a call to the reception fixed it the next day, with a mattress softener provided. Also we were able to use an adapter to charge our cellphones.

Room Facilities were immaculate and the views from our balcony was just so delightful, you wanted to wake up early just to indulge in the view out towards the sea and to the pool. AirCon was great for when it was very humid and sticky and the bathroom was luxury especially the double bath tub, not quite a spa bath but not needed! Our shower did block on the first night but was fixed after reporting, didn't spoil anything though as some maintenance issues are always to be expected in such a huge complex, so not phased at all. We took a stroll down to Karon Town for dinner and had a great seafood meal so cheap! and cheap fish massage too, must try even though it does feel weird but soothing after 10mins. House keeping was done daily and we got fresh towels and bottled water daily, however it would be ideal to know what time housekeeping is done as there were two days that we came back to room after being out and room was getting made up both at different times, but a swim easily fixed this. Also want to note we had no issues with any mosquitos, none at all!

Restaurant - had beautiful views overlooking the sea at a distance and just stunning at sunset, such a great place to be at when eating breakfast and dinner, the openness and spacious feeling made it feel quite majestic. The breakfast had a great selection and was always yummy and various fruit drinks available, more than required. The restaurant staff are just so welcoming, pleasant and very warm natured, they were all just awesome!

Cheeva Spa - We indulged in the Nov Spa Package for two and totally got put to sleep, 30min soak in spa, 1hr massage & 30min facial with Honey massage, the best I have ever experienced, me and hubby re-booked for another 1hr massage each before we checked out. I would definitely pay extra at the resort (they even had 50% specials on anyway) than get it done at the public massage spa salons in town, we did get massage in town however the atmosphere and cleanliness of resort is much better and quality too.

Mango Pool Bar - We took advantage of the happy hour at the pool bar 50% cocktails and it was also an excellent sunset view too - again totally relaxing.

Even though there are stairs to this resort, it made up for all the lazing around in the pool, heavy buffet breakfast and got circulation going again... I enjoyed the little bit of exercise while on holiday. Walking down from Resort to Karon town is not too bad and walking up will give you a slight sweat up, we caught a taxi from Karon town for 200baht. There are shuttle buggies that concierge staff will transport you to your room if it is one of the higher up ones. Also they have scooters to hire for 250 baht which is similar to what they offer on the road or in town. We hired a scooter for a day and Kata is only 2km away. The shuttle service to and from Karon beach is good, there is also a scheduled service to Patong for 100baht pp one way at 3pm & 7pm and pick up at 8pm from Patong, a later pick would have been ideal as we always stayed in Patong till after 9.30pm, however 400baht back to resort from Patong in a taxi or tuk tuk isn't too bad, its only a 5-8min drive home. Patong was so CRAZY for us, so it was just superb returning back to our paradise resort in the quiet hills.

Check out was easy, I just had to clear up some bills but other than that the whole experience was Excellent.
Alex, thank you for your hospitality and top marks to your ever so gracious staff, you ought to be very proud of them for delivering 5 star service & your beautiful facilities and surroundings!! Just to name a few outstanding staff, Jai & all the concierge, Ann on reception, Por & Nun at Mango Pool Bar, All staff at Cheeva Spa, especially Apple & Kate.
Thank you very much!

Room Tip: We had room 1216 overlooking the Pomelo Pool which is great and not far to get to the pool, and easy...

We were in Phuket for a connecting flight. Having stayed in Phuket before, i know it's not for me, so we really wanted to find a nice hotel that we didn't need to leave. This was the perfect option.

Although expensive for Thailand, it's still very cheap for how nice it is. We stayed in a Panoramic room which was stunning. They have paid so much attention to detail, from the linen which is all very soft and smells of lavender, to the bar that you can sit at in the pool.

The swimming pools are beautiful, clean, not overcrowded, and there are towels by the pool that you help yourself to.

Definitely book in for a massage in the spa. It's not cheap for Thailand but it's still very good value for money, the experience is great and they really make a fuss of you. After your massage you can use the steam room and jacuzzi free of charge.

We ate in the restaurant a few times, it's a really nice setting and worth going to. The breakfast buffet is huge and there's lots of variety. Although not expensive as such, the food we ate in the restaurant was the most expensive we had in Thailand but certainly wasn't the best. We wanted to order champagne with our evening meal as we were celebrating a special occasion, but they had run out of all their champagne, which was disappointing,

I would definitely recommend Mandarava, there isn't anywhere else like it.

good things first:

This is an excellent resort. Big room, magnificent view, nice pools, clean environment. If i have to pick on it, the breakfast is slightly limited in choices. but if you are just looking for filling your stomach before a busy day, it is definitely good enough.

I have to mention their services. Alex ( i think that's his name) definitely has trained his staff well, from the bell boy to reception and staff at the restaurant, even the staff who does the makeup of the rooms. Every staff is friendly, pro-active in providing services and keen in addressing our concerns whenever we have the "lost look" even though they may not speak English well. I can feel their genuine concern and interest in solving problems.

The reception helped us rent the motorbike (surprisingly the rate is quite ok, 250bht per 24 hours), give us early check-in at 11am. The hotel also offered towels, shampoos & drinking water etc when we need to have a shower after checking out.

Drawbacks: the hotel is on a hill and very deep inside an alley. You basically can't go anywhere without a motorbike. So if you don't ride, it will be quite a pain. Of course, if you are the kind who don't mind staying inside the resort and relax, it will be fine. The hotel provides shuttle services to beach but not very frequent. If you DO ride, there are many shops, massage, eateries within 5 min ride. So we had a good time exploring different restaurants.

The hotel is on the hill as mentioned, so be prepared to climb a lot of staircases. When it rains, there is no covered walk-way. Normally the reception will help you get a van to send you to your room during rain.

Secondly think the hotel has some serious drainage issue - the two shower place both have choked drainage. but i am sure if you voice out, it will be solved in minutes.

Just a minor suggestion, the making-up room staff come everyday although we did not put the up signage of "make up rooms". The hotel may consider re-training the staff not to do it because it can be tricky as customers don't expect people to come in. So you may want to keep your stuff inside the safe ALL THE TIME.

Sidetrack a bit, don't trust solely on google map or the map given by the airport. You need to combine both and navigate around. the road on google map around the hotel, is non-existing.

so overall, nice hotel.

Room Tip: if you don't mind the daily exercise of climbing staircases, try to get a room with sea view. or...

This is not a 5-star resort but you get excellent value for money. The rooms are large, clean, well laid out and with all the usual amenities. The service is what one comes to expect from a Thai resort. The restaurant serves good food in a location that provides a good view. The sunset view is beautiful. The wifi is fast enough and we have had much slower speeds elsewhere.

The resort is built on a hillside and away from the beach but the pool is quiet and met our needs. No crowds here.

All in all we had a very good stay here indeed.

We had an absolutely amazing time and would not hesitate to go back - fantastic service and atmosphere. Nice and spacious rooms and the only minor minus is that the bed is fairly hard.

We stayed for five nights and really didn't want to leave

We had 6 great nights at Maderava and the experience was all positive as far as the hotel was concerned. As noted by other reviewers, the hotel is hilly and does have a lot of steps, but this would only be a problem if you have limited mobility. It was also a bit of a walk into town, but as we were looking for peace and quiet and given Karon is quite "full on", I saw this as a positive. There is also a shuttle although they could probably do with adding at least one later time (say 9pm) for people returning from dinner or shopping.
The accommodation is beautiful, the staff were all lovely and helpful and the overall resort was very clean and well maintained. The pools are fantastic and there was never a problem getting sun beds.
I was not very keen on Karon town which in my opinion is over commercialized and quite grubby, but if you just want to use the beach (beautiful) and the hotel, and aren't bothered about the town, then Mandarava is a great base. Also the spa is lovely and quite reasonable.

My only negative is that the beds are very hard, but they assured me they are addressing this issue with new mattress toppers.

Room Tip: All rooms were nice but if I was to choose, I would go for an upstairs room to eliminate any noise...
