“Busy hotel near the beach”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed December 20, 2013

We spent six nights at Best Western Phuket Ocean Resort. This hotel is very close to the Koran beach which has deck chairs and umbrellas and eateries. The location is very central and one can easily catch taxis or do local shopping. There are many different places to eat a variety of foods within walking distance.
Be prepared to wait in a queue for breakfast in the morning. It is extremely busy and crowded. The hotel offers a buffet of fresh fruits, salads, cold meat and cheese, bread and pastries, Asian, Eastern and Western breakfast foods. The staff working behind the counter as well as serving staff are very friendly. We were particularly impressed with Mel who always ensured that everyone has their tea or coffee and a refill if required.
The swimming pool area is well frequented and nicely cared for. The hotel offers each guest a towel for their use. It would be preferable if there was a system in place to ensure that once guests left the pool area thier lounge chair could be used by other guests as what happens is guests leave personal items on their chairs and go shopping or to lunch and return three hours later to 'their chair'.
The gardens are well cared for, neat and lovely.
There is complimentary tea, coffee always available at reception. There was also tea and coffee available to make in the room as well as complimentary water each day.
There is a lot of music at night and sensitive sleepers may find it difficult to get some rest.
The bedrooms are large enough with nice blocked out curtains in order to sleep a bit late. We were unable to regulate our freezing cold AC. The bathroom was small but more modern. The bathroom shower curtain had mold on it and the towels were very tierd and worn with strings coming off them. Our bed linen had holes in it. Unfortunately for us the hotel used our corridor to store their broom, dustpan, clean and dirty towels, empty and full water bottles. Immediately outside our room door! So this is in effect a meeting place for the people who clean the rooms. You would not be able to sleep late with all the clinking of bottles and chatting going on. Further it was unpleasant to see their dirty laundry and cleaning equipment each time we stepped out of our room or came back to our room. We found it to be very disrespectful to the guest. We stayed in room 1425.
Upon checkout at 11:40 the receptionist asked us to please take a seat whilst she ensured that everything was in order with our room. We waited patiently until 12:25 and then enquired why this took so long. Unfortunately there had been a shift change and they had simply forgotten that we were still waiting. The hand over procedure was not what we would have expected.
In short we did not feel like a valued guest.

Room Tip: There are lots of steps, so ask for a room immidiately facing the pool for the least amount of steps...

Karon is by far the most family friendly part of Phuket and Best Western Phuket Ocean Resort complements it very well. It is conveniently situated just a short walk from the beach and the area of Karon where most of the restaurants are( There is even a 7/11 convenience store, close by). Many of the upper level(3rd floor plus) rooms offer good sea view and inspiring sights of sunset. The rooms are of standard size and well appointed with fridge, coffee maker, locker etc.Family friendly features include 3 pools, a sumptuous breakfast menu, laundry facility, a table tennis table, a pool table and some basic gym equipment. Friendly staff is another plus point.
The hotel has been built on the contours of a hillside which means that some amount of climbing up and down is a way of life. So it is not for those with bad knees and poor hearts especially since there is only one lift to the upper floors.

Room Tip: Sea facing rooms on 3rd floor and above are the ones to go for.

We stayed here from the 19th June. Stayed in one of the more modern rooms, was really clean and lovely. Buffet breakfast was amazing. Was a good time of year to go as it was not very busy areound the resort so nice and peaceful apart from the noise down at the bar which you could barely hear anyways. We had an amazing view of the ocean from our room and balcony was perfect. Very close to shops and Karon town and can catch a kut kut across the road if need be. We nearly had dinner here every night and really good tasty food. Only thing is when we called for room service, they could not understand what we were after so had to go back down to the restaurant to explain what we were after which was a hassle but apart from that I had a pleasant stay here.

This is one of the nicest hotel on Karon beach. It has 3 very nice pools with one on the upper floor. It has an outstanding breakfast with just about everything you could ask for. The beds were large and firm and the balcony has views of the ocean. The refrigerator had a very large freezer for the ice that you will have to purchase from the 7/11 a block away. Now here are the negatives. You will have to climb 56 concrete stairs just to get to the elevators. Then up to your room. If you are unfortunate to be on the upper floors in the rear, there are even more stairs. The beach is more than 2 blocks away but it is worth the walk. Soft sand and great water. There is a short cut to the bar and restaurant scene, right outside the hotel. Many great restaurants with live music and cold drinks. No need for taxis. The "Two Chefs" restaurant has the best music.

Room Tip: The bathroom outside the spa has fresh flowers and is much nicer than the pool bathroom. A little f...

Hotel restaurant and breakfasts provide good quality food. All the rooms are air-conditioned. There are 3 hotel pools and they well maintained. Staff friendly and always willing to help. There is a "gym" = two treadmills from 1995 and a few weights. Laundry where you can wash and dry your own clothes is available.
Problems:air-conditioners are loud. No elevators between the bottom and 3rd floors.

We stayed here three years back , centrally located beach and market is very near to it , breakfast spread was sumptuous. view was very good specially sunsets from balcony . the only draw back was their counting they messed with us twice for beer cans and once for spoon . we are non drinkers and never drink but they charged us .

Room Tip: Please count every thing before moving in the room.
