We stayed at Indigo Pearl for 10 days on our honeymoon. We had done extensive research on this place before coming as we wanted to have a fantastic experience. Indigo Pearl more than lived up to our expectations. This place simply blew us away. From the moment of our arrival we were greeted by the fantastic staff.....cold towels and refreshing drinks. We were awed by the design in the lobby....the design of this place is amazing. On entering our room we were pleasantly surprised to see our bed covered in rose petals, a fruit basket, champagne on ice and two heart shaped chocolate cakes, which were the most divine thing we have ever tasted...EVER!!
We highly recommend this place for couples and honeymooners, especially if you are interested in architecture, construction, interior design, landscaping....the attention to detail just has to be seen to be believed, words alone cannot do it justice.
As part of our package we had breakfast daily in the Tin Mine restaurant and three dinners. The breakfast blew us away....there is everything you could ever want. Fresh fruit, juice, cereals, yoghurt, hot food, egg chef, breads, pancakes, waffles, even noodles and pastries. Every day we ate until our bellies hurt! This is not the place to go on a diet. Our routine was to go to the gym early for a workout, then have brekky - no need for lunch, but if you need a snack there is fresh fruit delivered daily to the rooms.
The pools are spectacular, there are three to choose from. They are the best place to keep cool other than your room where the aircon was a blessing.
The beach is nice and a short walk away. I think only the poms and locals swim there, the pools are the better option. The local restaurants we ate at and recommend were Mamma Mia's and Batik, the latter located at the far end of the beach (turn left when you exit the resort) just whe you think there is nothing more, walk another 100m. the beach restaurants are the perfect place to watch the sun sink into the sea, planes rise into the sky and watch the local dogs play on the beach. Meals are around 60 - 150 baht, which is approx. $2-6 AUD.
Note to fellow travellers: we were really surprised y the number of families at the resort. Let me be very clear about this - no kid under the age of 10 is going to appreciate this place, and kids over that age are going to get real bored real quick!! We watched as parents pulled prams up flights of stairs, as they juggled hot and grumpy kids while they tried to eat their 5 star meals and it didn't look like they were having much fun. This is really a great place for couples and older people as there is not much going on around this area, families are better off going to Patong or other beaches where there is more action. We have nothing against kids - we have 5 between us!! I just don't think this is a 'family resort'.
There are four computers for internet access and a great library. We noted a review where someone thought the staff not very friendly.....absolute rubbish! The staff here are just wonderful, exceptional people. Hospitality staff in Australia could learn a hell of a lot from the Thai people. Nothing was too much trouble...even when I asked at reception about the wonderful chocolate cake, the staff member told me her boyfriend was the patisserie chef and called him up to make it again especially for us that evening, and it was brought to our table after dinner. Magic!
Some other reviewers also have criticised the rooms, ie bathroom and lighting. Look if you live in an old-fashioned house where the toilet is in a separate room you may have issue with the open bathroom. We thought it was the best bathroom we ever saw! We could shower while looking at palms, there was even a phone next to the toilet (!!!) Honestly if you can't stretch your imagination to accept that a 5 star room can have a rustic raw concrete shower and recycled timber feature wall then I'm sure there are many other more mainstream resorts for you.
There is not much in the way of shopping at Nai Yang Beach, a couple of clothing shops, very limited range although good value and quality knock-off t-shirts! For shopping head to Central Festival or Phuket Town. Nai Yang is along way from Patong and costs a lot in a taxi. You can walk north to the next beach and sit and watch the planes take off over your head.
We were surprised also by the amount of English and French people, and also that we seemed to be the only non-smokers at the resort. We found it quite annoying to have someone smoking while relaxing by the pool or even at the restaurants along the beach. We ate at Octopus one night and sat inside thinking this was non-smoking as there were no ash trays on the tables. However we were disgusted when a French woman lit up at the next table while we were eating....very poor manners and we left in disgust, told the owner we would not return! On another sour note, not in any way a black mark on the resort....women who sunbathe topless! Clearly they have not read that this is very offensive in Thailand and against the law, but we watched as a cafe staff member had to speak to a brazen topless woman by the pool regarding a bill, and the poor girl did not know where to look, we felt so bad for her yet this woman was at the family pool and completely oblivious to the offence she was causing. Very poor form!
Tip for the thrifty.....put your complimentary bottled water in your minibar fridge and take it to dinner with you at the resort restaurants, even a soft drink will set you back 90 baht plus tax (10% and 7%) so ends up around a $4 drink. We couldn't afford to drink alcohol at the resort but you can buy cheap drinks at 7 Eleven. Anyway we were eating so much it probably did our bodies good to have a break from alcohol! The staff even insist on pouring your bottled water for you so take your own and you will save a bit!
Overall this place is incredible and we are already planning to return next year. Just leave the kids at home and enjoy the experience.
