We arrived at the Indigo Pearl on 29th November for an 8 night stay. We had previously stayed in Bangkok for 2 nights (narrowly avoiding the protests) and on Phi Phi for 4 nights and we were really looking forward to staying in one place for much longer and having the opportunity to relax and unwind. We were immediately struck by the awesome architecture and stunning surroundings. It was lovely to be greeted with a cold towel (with the familiar jasmine scent associated with the hotel) and a refreshing drink whilst checking in. My husband had emailed the hotel prior to our stay and notified them that it was our first wedding anniversary. Upon arriving back in our room on the first night of our stay, awaiting us was a bottle of sparkling wine and chocolate cake! All free and very nice! We had originally booked a Kelly Quarters room (which was lovely and would have been more than adequate for our needs), but we decided to treat ourselves and upgrade to a Pearl Room. Initially we had spoken to a member of staff on reception to enquire about upgrading and were given a ridiculous quote. We later contacted the member of staff whom my husband had previously emailed (I think she deals with customer relations) and she provided us with a far more reasonable quote (hence the upgrade) and took us to view both types of Pearl Room before chosing. The Pearl Room was absolutely stunning and the attention to detail was amazing. Huge balcony with an outdoor bath, fantastic walk in shower and great attention to detail. There was so much choice at breakfast and we were initially overwhelmed by the whole experience and the vastness of it all, but we soon got used to it! Plus breakfast at Indigo Pearl is ideal for people watching! We didn't eat any other meals at the Indigo Pearl, as we enjoyed visiting the different restaurants and beach shacks and sampling the food. We really liked Mama Mias and Octopus. The re-bar at Indigo Pearl is worth a visit, we went there a few times and thought it was lovely (if a little too quiet and empty on occasions). We visited Patong for a shopping and souvenir trip. We were originally going to stay there and I have have got to say I am really glad we chose Nai Yang! We had refrained from buying too much in Bangkok as we thought we'd pick the same stuff up in Patong, however we were quite disappointed with the shops in Patong. We had initially avoided the shopping centre (reasoning that you can visit shopping centres back home and once you've seen one ...), however, we ended up nipping in. If you are looking for nice souvenirs (non tacky traditional crafts etc) I would recommend a visit to the ground floor where there are loads of stalls and shops and you can barter. We didn't spend much time on the beach (which is unusual for us), instead chosing the adult only pool at the hotel, which we loved. The beach and sea appeared pretty dirty with lots of rubbish, but the Indigo Pearl does have it's own section on the beach with nice loungers and a bar. We struggled to get a lounger though. Anyway... all in all we had a really enjoyable stay at the Indigo Pearl. When considering booking, like a number of people it appears, we did have reservations about the hotel being in an isolated position, but for us the position and set up was perfect. It was very relaxing (when we weren't spending time threating about how we were going to get back home with the protests) and just what we needed. We did not at any time feel trapped in a suffocating "resort" being forced to eat and drink at the hotel's restaurants each night (Phi Phi Island Village springs to mind!). What is nice is that you can stay somewhere with a luxurious feel and eat and drink there each night if you so wish, but you also have the option to go elsewhere and eat, drink and have massages at more reasonable prices. Overall, we would definitely recommend the Indigo Pearl and now the time has come to head back to work after the Christmas and New Year break we certainly wish we were back there!
