“A hidden gem”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed March 21, 2013

Turn west towards Roecliffe off the A1 opposite Boroughbridge and you pass through a small but depressingly unpicturesque industrial estate. Don't be put off. A few hundred yards further brings you to the delightful village of Roecliffe itself, complete with village green, country cottages and the "jewel in the Crown" - the village pub. Except that it's also an excellent restaurant, which we have visited with parties of friends on some of our regular pub outings across the north of England. It is one of the best. Surroundings, service, food and drink are all of the highest standard. Just go.

“Top Nosh”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed March 19, 2013

Visited here for Sunday lunch on a cold gloomy day, but received a nice warm welcome with logs burning in fire in the bar and restaurant. Taken straight to table where order for food and drinks taken. Priced at £19.95 for 3 courses think it was good value.
A nice touch was to be served with some lovely warm bread and a bottle of table water without being asked.
Lunch was very relaxed and time seemed to slow down, couldn't believe when came to leave we had been here for over 3 hours!
Another good thing to note is that lunch on Sunday is served all day until 7pm( hurray! )

“Superb food, gorgeous rooms.........we keep returning!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed March 17, 2013

First discovered this amazing pub restaurant when camping nearby. Returned to stay for a couple of nights after our wedding and have been back twice for dinner with family.
Locally sourced food is cooked to perfection and served creatively.....the fusion of flavours is superb and service attentive but not overbearing. Relaxed atmosphere and nothing is too much trouble. Good choice of wines and real ale.
There are 4 rooms here, beautifully decorated, extremely comfortable and well worth a stay if you can!
We will be back again and again without a doubt!

“Our stay at The Crown more than made up for the poor weather”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed March 16, 2013

We recently stayed for three nights at The Crown during an early March spell of rather miserable, cold and damp weather. However we are most pleased to report that The Crown more than made up for this by fully measuring up to our expectations in every way. After spending cold days exploring the surrounding area, it was most pleasant to return to a warm, welcoming and characterful inn (overlooking the quiet village green) to enjoy really excellent and imaginative evening meals in the cosy bar area before retiring upstairs to a very comfortable bed in our well-appointed and spacious bedroom (The Gun Room). We then enjoyed wonderful breakfasts on the following mornings, which set us up well for venturing outdoors. Karl and Amanda (the owners) and their staff went out of their way to ensure that we really enjoyed our stay with them. We would recommend The Crown to anyone who wishes to spend a relaxing break in the North Yorkshire area, with easy access to the A1(M) motorway, York, Harrogate, the N.Yorks Moors and The Dales.
