To start with: I really should have made a Google Maps print out of the streets around this hotel. I had relied too heavily on a poor small scale atlas and I don't use GPS (I'm an aged professional geographer) and I really messed up this time - until I followed the road uphill from the St Prix Town Hall (Marie) and found my destination at the top of the hill. Parking was also a bit of a stuggle but we liked our room - 'Maintenon' - which is very nicely decorated and a good size. However, this room is at the very top of the building and in the eves - with steeply sloping ceilings. If I had been much taller than my 5'9" (1.75M) I would have been in danger of banging my head; and even at my not excessive height there's no way I could have stood up in the bath to shower.
Nevertheless, we enjoyed our stay at this hotel and restaurant for one night. The staff who served us in the restaurant were very pleasant and professional and we were treated to a free glass of Beaujolais each - and an agreeable discussion of the wine's merits. We enjoyed the food (e. g. turbot - at a reasonable price). We were also quite surprised and impressed that every place (approx 40) in the restaurant was occupied - on a Thursday night - by a mixture of residents (it is a very small hotel) and locals.
On the next morning we needed to be away promptly at 9 in order to drive the 12 miles or so into Paris (which took 1hr 40 minutes), pick up lots of stuff and then race back to the ferry at Calais. Fortunately I asked for the bill at 8.30 - and it was eventually produced at 8.50. It was perfectly accurate and good value as well. The two young women who were in charge that morning were charming (we shared a few jokes) and I think that the computer system was to blame for the delay. However, it was still a bit unsettling.
So, all in all, I would recommend this very small and pleasant hotel and restaurant for the charm of its rooms (we also saw the interior of 'Pompadour' - invited in by fellow guests - very nice indeed - both the guests and the room), the quality and value for money of the restaurant and the very agreeable patrons and staff. (But probably it would be best to avoid 'Maintenon' if you are tall and/or like to stand up in your shower!)
