“Let down by rude, indifferent staff”
1 of 5 stars Reviewed April 28, 2013 via mobile

No complaints with the hotel itself - just let down by the staff who came across as rude and indifferent, making absolutely no attempt to be accommodating to the requests of its clientele.

The resort itself is quiet and the hotel was far from busy - yet the staff showed absolutely no interest in whether you stayed with them or not. Absolutely no effort made to retain our custom and no effort to be friendly with us at all.

Would not stay here again.

Kata Country house was very pretty and the pool was great. Rooms were average and the breakfast buffet included in room price was awesome! Very far from the beach but not a bad location. Good value for the price

I was really torn between a 3 or a 4 rating.

Excellent location. Nice and quiet when inside and well away from the chaos of Kata main street. The resort/hotel to westerners is a definite 2 star. But then it is one of the better value places in Kata.

The owners make it sound like an idyllic, landscaped, tropical retreat. It isn't. But still to be fair it is fairly well kept but I certainly would not go near the bungalows to the rear by the awful "pond" (??!!) that has horrid stagnant water. You are asking for trouble and you will be eaten alive. In true Thai style they will not spray for mosquitoes as this might cost $50. Pick your room carefully! The pool is very small and will get crowded with a mere 10-15 people.

BEWARE; The dog is dangerous.

We saw it take a savage bite out of a guests arm to draw blood. What if this was a child?? Perish the thought. The dog should NOT be anywhere near people when the owners know it is dangerous and this is extreme negligence....they have a sign..." Do not pet the dog". Please add..."Dangerous dog". Better still take it away.

Our room was fine ...no issues save for the bathroom which is the usual Thai style for lower end places and I don't like these with the plastic curtain and weak shower.. We had a room in a quiet area and room outside for my rented jeep. It was just outside the pool area and we had no issues with noise or any disturbance. As already posted here it is, as everywhere in Kata now, full of Russians and you could get a rowdy lot to wreck your holiday. Kata for your information is little Russia. But, again, we had no problems.

Kata is split into two areas...and the beach itself. This hotel is right between the two and so you have a 5 minute stroll to either part of Kata. On the doorstep are loads of restaurants, bars, shops, etc. The road to the upper part can be tricky with parked cars and no footpath....so be very careful!!

The man on reception was excellent, a genuinely friendly helpful guy. It is dated and silly to have WiFi only in the reception area and this needs to be sorted and made available throughout the whole resort as this is essential nowadays and cheap to install.

Breakfast is a fairly dismal affair with watered orange squash, mean dry bread, cold horrid bacon and tinned sausages. I only ate fruit, cereal and fresh cooked eggs and bought my own yoghurt. It was enough and got me through.

Because of the bathroom, the WiFi issue, the poor breakfast, the small pool, the dangerous dog with no concern from the owners, the filthy pond with an air force of mosquitoes...... I had to go for 3 rating.

We stayed 4 nights at Kata Country House recently after moving from the place we originally booked (Full Moon Beach Resort which is badly in need of a makeover). We paid the same price as we were charged at Full Moon but the standard & service at Kata Country House was far superior.

We had a room (with balcony) in one of the buildings at the back of the resort so it was relatively quiet being away from the pool area. Room was fitted out well & very comfortable with tea/coffee making equipment. Cleaned daily & free bottles of water. It has a refrigerator, towels are provided for pool and beach at the front desk.

The pool is great. This is quite a big place so it was busy but there were plenty of sun lounges. Buffet breakfast is included.

The staff were extremely polite and helpful. We would have no hesitation in recommending this hotel as a comfortable place to stay for budget conscious travellers.

Room Tip: Rooms at back are more private than around the pool.

For the past 10 years I've been to 3, 4 and 5 stars hotel in Spain, France, Austria, Portugal, Egypt, Mexico, India (twice), Turkey, Nepal, Sri Lanka, Vietname, Cambodja, Morocco (twice), Italy... I've never seen anything like this.

It shouldn't even be considered a 3* hotel. Drunks hanging around at night... We arrived there at 2am (with my 78 years old grandmother) and we couldn't stand the room, the smell... even though we were so tired. We left.

I posted some pictures, please, make sure you check them before you make a reservation. They speak for themselves.

Description of the pictures I posted: 'the wardrobe', 'open sewer next to rooms 36, 37, 38', 'horrible bathroom', 'very poor standart room', 'tin roof in the awful dining room'.

The overwhelming stench of tired drains pervades this resort. The mozzies are everywhere and the rooms are not free of them either. Breakfast is plentiful if very boring and dessicated and presented in an unappetising manner. Staff are surly, except for Mr Title, the assistant general manager, who knows how to smile and to provide freindly and prompt service. The pool is very warm and not refreshing for a dip at any time. The Russian tourists love this hotel and they are not very friendly either. The lotus lake, a work in progress looks like a dried out bog, very ugly. The entrance to the hotel is vile, a good clean down might help and sympathetic decor in the restuarant might help too. We had dinner there once, and found it quite bland. Dont worry if the bed is comfortable the air conditioning will keep you awake all night, so loud but over efficient, the room was a fridge!

Room Tip: Choose another hotel.

This will be my shortest review to date..

Stay elsewhere as it is just not worth being eaten alive by Mosquitos and using the wifi in the foyer only and the horrible breakfast in a dingy cafeteria.

We stayed in a cabin which is just ok but they have new rooms opposite that look a lot better.

If you have to stay here maybe try them instead of the cabins as they are terrible.

As a couple cheap is definitely not always the best wAy to go.

We checked out after our first night as my wife was covered in mosquito bites and the place was quite dirty. Eventhough we paid for a week no refund or apology was given for the poor presentation of our "deluxe cabin" so to be honest absolutely disgusted by the way we were treated and would not recommend this hotel to anyone as there is sooooo many other options available that are far better value for money than this one.

Stay away!!!!! Or trust in the other reviews which I can not understand how there stay was so different to ours.

We stayed at 4 hotels during our 4 week stay in Thailand and this was by far the absolute worst experience we ever had.
