We stayed at the Boomerang for 5 nights in January 2013. We originally were due to stay elsewhere but decided it wasn’t for us and went back to a hotel we knew from a previous stay in 2010. We weren’t disappointed with our decision.
Location:-
Boomerang Village is located approx. 15mins walk from the centre of Kata, and the beach area. Some may view this as a negative, however I think it’s a good thing. Kata has expanded a lot, and is now very busy with lots of traffic and noise. Boomerang is so quiet and peaceful, it really is relaxing. Its located on a hill overlooking Kata, if you look further up the hill all you see is dense green jungle. The drive that leads up to Boomerang is pretty steep, and does take it out of you walking up. Once laid by the pool, or relaxing in your own little bungalow room its worth it! The hotel offer a free taxi service to and from the beach during the day, which is well worth taking advantage of.
Rooms:-
The rooms are decorated in a traditional Thai style, and are very tasteful. It isn’t a super modern hotel, but it feels like real Thailand. All of the accommodation is single storey bungalows. A previous review says the walls are thin but I never heard a noise from our neighbouring bungalow the whole stay. We stayed in a superior room, which was kept really clean, which I believe is the cheapest and most basic. It was really good for the money paid and im not sure what extra you would get for paying for the next room up. Our room had a huge comfy king-size bed, large bathroom with good shower, Air con, Large wardrobe with a safe, colour tv, private balcony, tea, coffee facilities and a hairdryer which made my girlfriend happy!
Grounds & facilities:-
As mentioned above the hotel is set up in the hills overlooking Kata. If you look further up the hill, whilst laying at the pool all you see is lush green jungle. You cannot beat that. The pool area itself, is clean, with plenty of comfy sunbeds. The pool has a small Jacuzzi at one end. The pool is really clean and lovely for a dip to cool off. All of the hotel is really clean and there are lots of nice plants and trees etc. to make the general feel of the place very tropical. The hotel also offers a ‘Business Centre’, this consists of 2 computers, and an iPad. This equipment is free to use, for as long as required. Printers are also available free of charge. This is a really nice touch and makes onwards travel etc very easy to book and print confirmation.
Restaurant:-
The free buffet breakfast is served from the restaurant, and I felt it was a good breakfast. Cereals, Breads, Pancakes, Juices, Fresh cooked eggs, fruits, cakes, pastries, various hot dishes, and more were all available and continually restocked. We never left breakfast hungry or dissatisfied with what was available. We had lunch a couple of times at the restaurant and it was very nice. We never had an evening meal at the hotel as there is so much choice in the centre of Kata at far more appealing prices.
Staff:
All Staff we had dealings with were very helpful and friendly. They couldn’t be faulted.
Overall, we had a great stay in Kata, and were really happy staying at the Boomerang for a second time. I would 100% recommend this hotel. If you want to be right in the centre of the action, then it probably isn’t for you. However, if you like the sound of a tropical haven, set in the hills away from the hustle and bustle, book it now!
