“Will definitely go back!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed November 12, 2010

Kata poolside resort is really beautiful, it looks just like the pictures on their website. The room is really clean and beautifully decorated. Staff are friendly and helpful. The Prawn and Lobster restaurant served really great food. The location of the hotel is great as its really central, close to the beach, shops, restaurants, markets. We loved it. Only disadvantage - not much to chose from on the television (but who watches TV on holiday anyway?) and internet was too slow, so we used an internet cafe. Overall, I can recommend it and will definitely go back!

We found Kata Poolside Resort fantastic - loved the pool, found the hotel very clean and the staff very good. Given the location - down the road from the beach - you still can get great value here and still enjoy the beach and night life of Kata. Our few minor issues included no pool bar and if you ordered drinks from the restaurant to the pool you have to pay cash, the bed was a little hard and there was a lack of pillows in the room. Otherwise we had a fantastic stay at this resort and definitely recommend it!

3 of 5 stars Reviewed June 26, 2010

Stayed four nights at this hotel with my girlfriend. For a three star place at only 850 baht u cant really complain. Staff are friendly and place is well kept. The pool is great, not enough chairs around it but other than that great. The location is awsome with a short walk to the beach and some great restaurants.

My only complaint is that the matress was extremelly hard. It was very uncomfortable to sleep on and is by far the hardest matress ive ever slept on.

Also those requring wifi or even decent pay as you go internet will be disapointed. Its very lacking in this area and has no printing facility for online tickets etc.

Other than that this hotel is worth a look for budget travellers looking for a great location.

On arrival, our room had no working air conditioner ( essential in this climate) but they were very quick to offer us a change of room. All staff were polite but everything had a price. Pool area was very small and all chairs were usually commandeered early by people putting their towels on them but not necessarily being there. No one monitored this and the pool itself was not the cleanest. The rooms were large but only had basic supplies ( eg. no tissues, TV guide, paper, pen etc). They were clean and quiet. The location is central to Kata which caters very much for tourists. Breakfast was average but room service was fairly prompt and the same price as the restaurant. Overall, we would not choose to stay here again.

Kata poolside resort is a great value for money hotel. the rooms were large and clean and they provide a kettle and cups for you to make tea and coffee. Provisions are provided for day 1 only then you just go down the road to the local supermarket or 7 eleven store and buy teat, coffee and milk. 2 bottles of water are provided daily.
The restaurant at the front provides breakfast (included in our room rate) and is a great place for dinner with the 10% discount voucher, great food and cheap.
Not really sure how they got the name as only 12 of the 72 rooms have pool views we were lucky to have one of these on the second floor which was great. The pool although small is adequate for the number of people using it but with only a small area and only 22 lounges it does get a bit tight for their use with sometimes people leaving towels on them all day and not coming back for ages.
The resort is close to the beach about 200metres and the local bus stop to Phuket town 100 metres away. Everything is very close so it is an ideal location.
The reception staff were very frendly with nothing too much trouble. I would certainly recommend this hotel if staying at Kata Beach.

We arrived close to midnight. Check in was ok. Staff can hardly speak English but enough to get by. Room is clean and decent sized. Location is 300 m from beach and close to shops and restaurants. Pool is small and hotel not much facilities. Breakfast spread is decent with good Asian food, some western food and fried eggs. Service at hotel is average. Next morning we found one evian bottle already opened in the fridge and one sugar packet half used. We told the housekeeping who acknowledged but did not change it. Later in the evening we raised the matter to the reception who assured us in english that we won't be charged for the evian water. Overall it is a 3 star hotel with average service in a good location near Kata beach.

We arrived one day earlier, and had a fast and easy check-in. The staff is nice, helpful, and friendly. The hotel is conveniently located 3 min away from the beach, on the street full of shops, restaurants, ATMs, and taxis. The room is rather big, clean and nice.

Once you get into your room, you see several print-outs on the table, saying how much you can be charged for damaging any of the hotel property. The list includes towels, sheets, glasses – everything, including the big mattress and lamps! Thus, you need to make sure that you don’t forget your glasses at the pool or break them – you will be charged 30 bahts. If you get a tattoo and spot a towel or a sheet, here, you pay 100 bahts (there is a special warning about “the tattoo charge” on the bathroom door), and so on, and so on. So, instead of enjoying your vacation, you need to be always alert and not to break a glass or a teapot.

There is a tea/coffee making facility in the room, but they have never replenished our coffee, so we used it only once. The hotel is called Poolside Resort, but only 12 rooms have a pool view (6 per block), and the rest have to enjoy a breathtaking view of the roof or the kitchen of another hotel. I should admit that the pool is pretty, even though not large.

The hotel lacks such simple amenities as a press-iron or the bathroom at the pool area (the nearest toilet is in your room). There is not enough water in the shower, and the shower is tiny, and without a hose. You have to sign in and out to get a pool towel, too (which you can do only at the reception area). They sell wireless internet cards to use, but those never get to function and specifically say “no refunds”. The restaurant is not bad and very popular, however, the breakfast menu is unexciting and non-variable. There is no night entertainment in the hotel, not even a bar (the poolside bar is open from 12 – 18.00).

We are quite easy people and really didn’t bother too much about all the above stuff, but the checkout really changed drove us nuts! Upon the checkout, we were presented with a bill for the snacks and drinks from the minibar that we have never touched!!! We tried to argue, but they kept shaking their handwritten register in front of us, showing that we had all the drinks and snacks on the same day, when we were not even in town! The funniest thing is that the prices of the minibar drinks that we had been printed on the bill, were then manually crossed and corrected for more expensive prices! They were scandaling with us, so, of course, we ended up paying for the things we had never consumed. After all, we didn’t care for extra 5 dollars, but overall, we left with a disgusted feeling. The place is so concerned about making sure that they don’t have to incur any expenses because of tourism that they totally forgot to be customer oriented! In no way, I would recommend this hotel to any traveler, and definitely, I will never come back!
