“Nice resort with great views but some shortfalls”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed August 13, 2013

I stayed at this hotel 9 years or so ago when it was rather new, and again now (writing this on the last night of our stay). Overall a pleasant stay but I feel compelled to note some negative points given that this hotel is supposed to be 4-star.

First, the positives:
- the hotel is situated atop a hill with fantastic views of the sea from lobby, restaurant, pool and rooms, if you get a sea view room
- rooms are huge for the price point we paid (145 sqm with huge living room, balcony which extends across the bedroom and living room, kitchenette and 2 washrooms, plus a separate rainshower and jacuzzi)
- room and furniture are clean and well maintained mostly (read the negatives below)
- decent buffet breakfast included with eggs cooked to order, though breakfast items are limited
- WIFI strong and fast throughout the hotel

Negatives
- the product has not been changed much from day 1 till now. I am not sure when the last refurbishment of rooms was, but there are some serious issues:
- the door separating our room from the next room at the balcony was broken - on a couple of days when there was strong winds, the door opened up due to the broken latches, which looks like they have been broken for a long time. This is a simple engineering task of fixing broken latches... not sure why it has not been fixed.
- TV is the old CRT type, not LCD, though we are not here to watch TV but goes to show that the rooms need updating.
- Jacuzzi is old and had stains and cracks here and there. Needs urgent refurbishment there. We didn't use it cos it doesn't look bright and clean and we are quite particular about this.
- Perhaps a design flaw - the door separating our room and the next room is a little thin and we can hear clearly what people next door are saying/doing. Not that big an issue since our room is huge and we don't really talk loudly ourselves.
- Breakfast - at the eggs station, the menu stated items like "apple wood smoked bacon", "cumberland sausages", etc. But the sausages were Thai sausages sold at streetside stalls and bacon was just regular bacon... not complaining much about it because the taste was good anyway.
- ceiling fan in the BR not working (there is already AC in the room anyway)
- housekeeping is not very good. On one day, they missed out replacing the towels. On another, they left some used towels in the bathroom.

After all these negative points we still enjoyed our stay very much and the room overall is still great and good value because of the size and view and comfort. But we will not return again until the product/rooms are refurbished and issues above fixed. There's just so many options of newer and good hotels in Phuket to choose from. Though I must say few would have the dramatic views that Aspasia can provide.

Room Tip: Ask for a room on the top floor at the highest block for the best view.

We got a great upgrade to a one bedroom suite which was very large and had a super balcony with views over the ocean. However, I think most of the rooms would have a great view. This hotel is quiet and the breakfast was fresh and good. The track down to the beach was rough and muddy but it is not too far by the road which also leads to the shops/restaurants. It is a bit of a hard slog back up after dinner though, but manageable for the peace and views! A nice pool and free 30 min massage completed the package. The only downside was that the room was brightly lit by a light just outside the bathroom which shone into the room all night. However the management came and fixed it with screens over the window. Although we had a bit of rain I would still go in August as the price is very good!

This was our third trip back to the Aspasia and as always, we had a magnificent time. The hotel offers great quality and service to its guests and the views are absolutely stunning. The location is a big hit with our family - either a walk down the Jungle Path to the beach or an amble down the hill to shops, banks, beach, restaurants, etc. The children particularly like the feel of the Aspasia Hotel as it is welcoming and spacious along with 2 lovely pools to swim in. We always book a 2 bedroom suite with sea view which is very spacious with lounge, full kitchen and dining table and chairs - the perfect place to stay for 2 weeks or even a month. Chef is very accommodating and will happily make a dish that is not on the menu if requested, he even organised a bbq for us one night too! The spa is divine and offers the most magnificent massages both thai and international treatments. Most definitely the best view in Kata Beach - we watched the eagle every day flying over the creek and out to Koh Poo and the sound of the waves crashing in to shore on an evening was fabulous. Well done Aspasia, you came up tops again for us.

Loved this place. Really great price for the quality and service. You do need to be able to walk a lot as the rooms are quite spread out and the beach is a bit of a ways down from the resort . Totally worth it though.
Things that I didn't like were the double doors to the room beside me made the room not very soundproof. Also it is quite a beautiful walk (3-5 min) down to the water but need to navigate so fairly awkward rocks at the beach. Also If you want to walk around the town you better be ready to walk up a fairly steep hill to get back.
Things I loved were the view, the pool, the breakfast buffet and the service. The place is clean and really beautiful. I would definitely stay here again.

Loved our stay here, actually we were located in the building next door but connected to the resort by walkways. This building had it's own serenity pool ( large) and very secluded from the rest of the resort, although available for everyone, I suppose most people wouldn't know it was there unless they stayed in this block?Breakfast in the restaurant was very good and cooked to order.
The hill side location was not a problem and the walk back up (via the road) looked worse that it was. We are in our late 50's and managed it ok. But tuk tuk station at the bottom of the hill if you want a lift up to the hotel ( 100 bhat) The ocean view one bedroom apartments were great and supplied everything you needed including a full size kitchen. Excellent air conditioning but the beds are extremely hard. Ok for us but heard lots of complaints about this.
The resort is clean and kept very tidy, the bathrooms could be a bit cleaner, a bit of mould in the shower and not clean around the back of the vanity but ok, not that bad.
Manager Mike invited us to a cocktail party in the penthouse ( amazing place- great for a honey moon or family occasion) The wine and food at this function was outstanding- thank you Mike.
Plenty of restaurants, shops and massage places at Kata- Karon. The beach is fine but a bit of rubbish around and plenty of Touts selling along the beach. 200 bhat to hire loungers and umbrella for the day. Stay away from the creek that runs in front of the resort as it is full of rubbish and also the jet ski's that plough between the swimmers.

Room Tip: We had Gr 4 ( ground level) but even though on street level at the door, it is on the 2nd floor at t...

We are a family of 5 from CT ,USA. We loved this hotel. We stayed in the 2 bedroom suite and it was enormous . The room service and hotel service of sending up bottled water was a great bonus. Some reviews complained of the steep hill , however we didn't mind because this hill gave is such a magnificent view. The walk to the beach was a bit steep but my kids loved walking the path through the "jungle" . They also loved the evening sounds of frogs, crickets, roosters and even a nearby elephant. When inside the hotel room , it was perfectly silent. The staff did have limited English at times but there was a wonderful Swiss girl that worked the front desk that was always willing to help us. What a great week at the Aspasia!

This resort is located at hill top be prepare to walk up and down the steep slope which is a fond memory for us. This slope will lead to the beach and shops where you can have some nice seafoods. It's a great vacation for us and will be back again.
