“A comfortable nook of Phuket to retreat to”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed August 17, 2013 via mobile

We stayed in a Junior Suite which had ample space for two and a beautiful view of the beach, beyond a stretch of well-maintained lawn and palms. Staff were mostly very friendly and helpful. Loved their pools and restaurants (Fisherman's Wharf was our favourite). The included breakfasts offered a staggering variety of options - try their freshly cooked spicy thai-style omlette. The hotel is a bit out of the way but that's the way we liked it. Some reviews have said you can walk into Kata, which is true, albeit over quite a steep hill. We did it once, then opted for the 200B taxi waiting outside the hotel thereafter. Taxi to Patong is a comfortable 500B. Very happy, would stay there again.

My wife and I spent 8 nights here in August. Overall we were very impressed, the attention and attitude of staff could not have been any better, the staff at Chom Talay restaurant where we ate every morning made every new day something to look forward to. The selection and quality of food was superb, and i think this will be the benchmark we compare other resorts to in future. We had room service on two occasions, both times happy with the service and again the staff members that delivered it were tremendously polite. Our grand suite was not as grand as we had expected but our initial disappointment fell away as this resort and general location more than made up in other areas. Restaurants and minimarts outside offer a great alternative for those wanting to save some money. We would not hesitate to return.

From the moment we arrived until the moment we left we had great service and the staff were very friendly and courteous at all times. The room was lovely, beds comfortable, showers great, all in all just what we wanted. The only drawback my friend found (it didn't worry me) was that the internet was very slow and hard to work with (hey we were on holiday who cares about the internet).

We stayed at this hotel for 10 nights in July this year. I booked the cheapest superior room thinking that since its low season maybe there will be an offer to upgrade when I am there and to see what the room is like first. I checked in last on the first night and after checking in I discovered that the superior (cheapest) rooms are on the other side of the road, almost like a separate hotel. Room was okay but it was facing all these other rooms so it was very noisy and dark - not nice. The next day I paid to upgrade to their best rooms the suite ocean view (you can pay extra to be right in the water which is what I went for) Much nicer indeed and that part of the hotel is also of a higher quality overall. The pool area is really nice, the staff are very friendly indeed and the beach is nice (if not covered in bottles and things from the sea even though cleaned twice a day). Its a good hotel to unwind, have cheap drinks by the pool. Lots of restaurants to choose from. Overall its a solid 4 star which needs to be refurbished and that is currently in process.

Room Tip: Go for the Ocean Front Suite - worth the extra money. I booked the cheapest room and then upgraded w...

We stayed at the Katathani for the last eight days of our holiday after travelling around Bangkok and Chiang Mai for 8 days. This was a great end to our holiday. We stayed in the Bhuri wing third floor which was very comfortable and overlooked the gardens and pool area. The room was clean, quiet and bright. The staff could not be more helpful and if we ever had a question they were all pleased to help. The staff in the restaurants, bars and grounds were friendly and always acknowledged you. We had several treatments around the pool and this was a treat we looked forward to. As reported in previous reviews the waves on the beach were high and were manned by the lifeguards because of the rip tides so no swimming for us but lovely to "paddle the feet". No swimming in the sea was not a problem because of the beautiful maintained choice of pools around the hotel grounds. Because we had travelled for eight days before we arrived in Kata Beach it was bliss for us to stay in such a lovely place.. A little far from the hub of the town but this was not a problem as there were plenty of taxi's just outside the hotel. Thank you to ALL the staff for making the end of our holiday so good and we hope to return.

This is a large 500 room resort. We booked a 5 night stay based on a friend's recommendation and the quality of the hotel' web site. As this was the low season we booked a promotion package which included airport transfer, one dinner and a complimentary cocktail. Our experience was mixed.
Location - the hotel has an excellent location right on Kata Noi beach. A 700 metre stretch of fine sand nestled in a west-facing bay. There are a couple of eateries and shops right outside the gates of the resort. A 10 minute walk ges you into the bustling town of Kata with a variety of drinking and eating places plus lots of shops, massage parlour etc.
Service - at the outset the service level seemed to be good. Check in was very pleasant. However, compared to the usual standard of hospitality in Thailand, service was variable. Most disappointing was the service in the restaurants and bars. Which was indifferent to surly.
Room - we booked a junior suite and were upgraded to a grand suite. It was a comfortable room with a huge bed, a seating area and balcony looking out to sea. However, it was not a suite in the true sense of the word. More a large bedroom. The bath/shower room were nicely laid out.
Facilities - the hotel has two wings with facilities in both. There is a well-equipped gym, a games room and tennis courts. The gym had decent though outdated equipment (again the service here was poor). There is a swimming pool area with a dedicated adults-only pool. This was nicely laid out with plenty of sun beds and a bar service to boot.
Overall - the Katathani is a decent family resort. It is a "mass market" resort for those looking for an accessible Far East beach holiday. It does it not provide a true taste of Thailand nor a sense of luxury or warm hospitality.

Beautiful peaceful resort with numerous pools to cater either for a quiet laze or a more boisterous afternoon. Many organized activities to keep you busy if that's what you want. Rooms well kept staff were friendly and efficient. Only restaurant we ate at was Cinnamon - daily for buffet breakfast and also had a buffet dinner one night. Away from the busier districts but only short tuk tuk ride to Kata Beach for abundance of restaurants and shopping. Daughter required medical assistance and on site clinic was excellent.
