“I wish I lived in the Baray Villa”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed August 24, 2013

Do yourself a favor and try one of these two story luxuries. The little private pool opens into another private pool shared with other villa guests - we only saw one other couple out there once. The interior decor is lovely with the most romantic bathroom/bedroom setup ive ever seen. Oh theres also an outdoor shower which adjoins the private deck/pool - again, so romantic. You can eat breakfast in their restaurant with a wonderful buffet or have it prepared to order and delivered to your villa at no extra charge - we did both and had a hard time deciding because we loved it all. The only downsides I can come up with are that its pretty vegetative - as in, take your bug spray and we did see one atrocious huge spider up in the trees over the pool. Also the hotel is not right on the beach but its a very quick and interesting walk to Kata or they provide an easy shuttle. The customer service is wonderful and they want to please you. The grounds of the hotel are like paradise.

Room Tip: pay the extra $ for a Baray Villa - its worth every baht

Very nice environment, traditional Thai style deco. , cozy room, there is a tour agent opposite hotel, provide motorbike and car renting service with reasonable price, the best part is they never ask for passport and deposit of money if you stay in Sawasdee Village. Wifi service is free, they event provide a computer CPU that was connected to your room LCD screen TV, so you can surf the Internet in your room, if you never bring any Laptop, the CPU come with CD Rom, so that you can bring your favorite VCD or CD to play. Very helpful and friendly staff with five star service, for sure I will be back again .

Many of the reviews here are about the baray villa, therefore not a true reflection of sawasdee village. As we stayed at phuket for 15 days in 4 different hotels, we gained a clear idea of what to expect for your money. Unfortunately we dont think sawasdee village is good for the value.

Here are some pros and cons:
Pros:
Stunning grounds, an art piece of the combination of thai and Moroccan styles. Pool is nice but quite small.
Very convenient location - in a street that has shops, restaurants and tour agents but the hotel itself is tranquil and peaceful.
food is good.
There is a computer in the room so useful to people who don't bring one.
The staff are professional but not the " lands of smiles" type.
Cons:
The insects - We had the poorest three night sleep during our trip- some bugs making huge clicking noises in the room throughout the night. I was kept interrupted during my sleep. We complained this to the reception but they couldn't really do anything about it. One day I saw a dead cockroach on the bathroom floor. I was bitten by two fire ants by the pool so make sure that you avoid the seats under the tree! I understand thailand is a tropical country and sawasdee is a tropical garden but I have never had such bad experience with insects anywhere else, not even in a jungle wooden cabin on phi phi island.

The room - tiny and dark. All rooms have to keep the curtains shut as they are either by the pool or by the path where people constantly walk by. In contrast to the beautiful garden, the furniture is old and worn out and needs updating. There is hardly any space to put my toiletries.

The bed is not proper double bed but two single beds put together.

To conclude, sawsadee has a beautiful garden and that's pretty much it.

Beautiful accommodation traditional Thai style. The set dinner (complimentary with every 3 nights) was the best meal we had in phuket. Staff were always willing to help, no matter what time of day/night. Would thoroughly recommend for a couples holiday!

What a beautiful, dreamlike place ! We stayed at a Baray Villa ( I understand they are more luxurious than the regular rooms ). The villa and the staff service were outstanding, beyond our expectations. also wish to thank our planner , Andaman Adventures , for recommending and booking us our particular Baray villa. We would never have known about this hideaway gem without them. highly recommended !

This is a lovely hotel with a completely different feel to a western-style chain hotel. After seeing some negative reviews suggesting that high ratings for Sawasdee were a result of people staying in the Baray Villas, rather than the Village, I was a little apprehensive before arriving. But I'm happy to say that Sawasdee Village did not disappoint. I'll try to address some of the most common complaints in this review.

We stayed in a garden room, which was of average size with a HUGE bed. Yes, it was not in brand new condition but it was clean and more than adequate for our 8 night stay. The shower was brilliant with great water pressure and toiletries provided. We had a little porch out front with a table and cushioned benches which was nice, but a bit prone to mozzies. What can you expect in a tropical setting though? The rooms get sprayed every night, beds have mosquito nets and insect repellent and balm is provided.

The breakfast buffet was plentiful and varied. Omelettes, pancakes, eggs made to order. Cereals, breads, pastries, fruits, meats, cheeses and several Thai dishes which changed daily.

The pool was gorgeous and there were always sun loungers available. It might not be the biggest pool around but it was plenty big enough for the number of guests in it at any one time. On leaving the hotel, you are within easy walking distance of the beach and local shops and restaurants.

Overall, we loved our stay at Sawasdee Village and would be more than happy to return.

Room Tip: Pool rooms might be less private (pool right outside your door) so garden room could be the one to g...
