“I feel sorry for some of these delusional people...Sawasdee is paradise...”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed May 9, 2013 via mobile

After my husband and I decided that Thailand was going to be our 4 year anniversary destination...the where to stay hunt began...after many hours on trip advisor and talking to our well traveled friends we chose Sawasdee Village...then all of a sudden bad reviews for this hotel started popping up on trip advisor...I started to worry I made the wrong choice...after staying there all I can say is that those people...are DELUSIONAL...Sawasdee is paradise...as soon as you step through the entrance you feel like you are in an intimate jungle inside Phuket...for the people who say the resort is old and worn...go stay at the Four Seasons in Beverly Hills where you belong...at around $100 USD a night this hotel is heaven...each room is a private little bungalow with your own walk in rain shower and Thai landscaped porch and pond...every morning they hand pick flower petals to float in the ponds and walkways...at night they come through and light your mosquito repellent lantern and turn down your covers...each bed has a beautiful handwoven lace net...I'm sure it's to help with the island mosquitos but nonetheless it is gorgeous...for people who say the rooms are small...go to Paris you'll see what SMALL ROOMS are...and to the people who say that the mosquitos are the hotels responsibility should get a life and some repellent...the reality is that Phuket is an island...therefore has an island climate...hence the abundance of mosquitos...I wore repellent the whole time and never had a problem...there's a brilliant idea...wear repellent!!! The service at the hotel is impeccable and the breakfast yummy...the pool is gorgeous with a cute little swim up bar... they have an indoor lounge with refreshments and wifi if you want to beat the humidity for a bit...keep in mind of course that all the rooms are air conditioned but just in case you wanna roam about the grounds the lounge is there...we loved everything about the hotel...it is quiet and intimate...beautifully landscaped...and the customer service is amazing...even when my husband over did it at Muay Thai training they rushed ice to our room for his knee...we enjoyed our stay more than words...we are already planning to come and stay again with another couple in March...thanks Sawasdee for a very memorable anniversary!!!

Beautiful boutique hotel in Kata, full of character. Gardens full of fish pond, statues, wonderful tropical plants, took a million photos. Rooms small as mentioned by other reviewers but plenty big enough for two. Wonderful pool with Swim up bar with daily happy hour two for one cocktails, not too many loungers, but we could always find a couple free. The Mosquitos are a pain, make sure you apply plenty of repellent (provided) and use the mosquito net over the bed. The restaurant is fantastic, so much character. The breakfast was good quality with plenty of choice, had lunch in the restaurant too on one day, our best meal in Thailand. They also have a Thai cooking school if that's something you want to try. The staff are truly wonderful, so helpful and friendly, we couldn't get a late check out of the day of our departure as the hotel was full, so they arranged a room at a neighboring hotel for us to shower and change before we left for the airport, free of charge. We will definitely come back here, maybe to the Villas next time, they look wonderful. Highly recommended :0)

We stayed here for a week in March, booked it fairly last minute and got some good prices, including a couple of free dinners thrown in, score! The resort is lush, but very compact, located in the middle of Kata, bout a 10-15 min walk to the beach. The pool area is lovely but small. There is an hourly shuttle run by the resort to the beach, which is handy. Breakfasts were good, with a reasonable selection, including fresh eggs, omelettes and pancakes. Generally friendly and helpful service, at one point was sent to travel agency across the road to book something, whenIi had asked on the girls in reception to assist with booking something (minor gripe). The two dinners were had were of high quality (had thai set menu) and very tasty. The rooms are nice, but small. The spa was lovely, had a wonderful massage. There is a laundry across the street that we would also recommend as they did a fantastic job with our clothes! Was a good experience and would recommend.

4 of 5 stars Reviewed April 25, 2013

We stayed here for a week in April 2013. We had a 'garden deluxe room' which is in the mid range, better located and slightly larger than the rooms in view of the pool but not as large as the Baray Spa villas which appear to be enormous. Our rooms appeared to be a little cramped at first but this was largely due to the very large bed that almost takes up the entire floor space of the bedroom. The en-suite bathroom is very good and had an excellent shower area with loads of hot water and plenty of fresh towels. Storage space is adequate.
The rooms appear dark but this is due to the hardwood constructon of the rooms and the extensive vegetation that is all around the hotel. There is an iMac computer in the room and a hotspot WiFi system which is bit of a pain as it keeps constantly logging out. Small complaint really but a bit annoying. Let's be honest, you only spend time in the room to sleep at night.
The pool area and bar is very attractive and well set out. The whole footprint of this site is quite compact and the use of the available space is clever. The gardens are definitely tropical paradise in style and the approach to the restaurant is particulary attractive. Breakfast in the restaurant was very good with lots of choices, freshly cooked egg and pancake dishes are available and the coffee is good! Staff are all very nice and attentive. No problems with mozzies as the hotel appears to take the problem seriously and takes necessary precautions, you just need to be sensible.

Room Tip: A room by the pool might not be as private as you would like.

Stayed here for a week in July 2012 and thoroughly enjoyed the experience. It is like a little oasis in the middle of a busy street area, the gardens and pool are almost idyllic. The staff were all extremely helpful and always ready with a big smile.
The rooms are on the small side, but to be honest we were out all the time, even if just sat by the pool bar enjoying happy hour drinks, that we didn't really notice it.
I would happily recommend this little hidden oasis to anybody.

We spent a week here in April 2013. Having looked at brochure pictures of Kata we expected something like a desert island paradise, but unfortunately the resort was at the other end of the spectrum. However, Sawasdee village provided a calm escape from all the nonsense which surrounded it.

The rooms were comfortable but small, with little space for storing clothing, but provided free web access, mini bar and tea/coffee making facitlities. A member of staff attended each evening to turn down the beds, pull the mosquito net around the bed and spray for the mosquitoes. There were plenty of "mozzies" around during our stay, but fortunately all the precautions appeared to work.

The decor is beginning to look a little tired, but the pool with the swim-up bar, and the restaurant were excellent. The staff were also very good and attentive. The breakfast provided a massive choice of foods, from local delicacies to the good old full English - although - as appears normal abroad - the bacon could have spent another five minutes in the pan.

If you decide to visit Kata (which I don't recommend) this hotel would be a good choice.

My husband and I were extremely excited to stay at Sawasdee after reading the excellent reviews. We were, however, disappointed when we got to our room. There was a loud creaking noise in the ceiling that echoed every 2 minutes and loud wind chimes that blew right outside our door, it made it difficult to sleep. After complaining, we were moved into another room, but this time we found a trail of ants behind the mosquito netting next to our bed frame. There was also an unpleasant odor coming from the bathroom. It was unfortunate, because the hotel itself is actually decorated quite beautifully. There was also one night that we (along with every other guest) waited over 45 minutes for our food at the restaurant, once it came, it was the wrong order. They were very apologetic, but the guests were not happy. I also overheard one couple say that there was no water running in their room and were forced to use bottled water to bathe. On the upside, the food was great, the pool is amazing, and the grounds were really nice.

If you’re looking for your hotel to have modern amenities, 'standard' spacious rooms, clean, and mosquito free, I would not recommend this hotel. We also stayed at Avista Resort, which was extremely clean and modern with spacious 'standard' rooms, but it lacked the Thai decor that you see at Sawasdee.
