“Crowded and not worth the tuk tuk fare...”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed March 17, 2013

We decided to visit Kata beach after reading the trip advisor reviews, thinking it would be quieter than patong, but we were wrong.

The beach was still completely lined with beach loungers and people. We walked further and further along thinking it might get quieter, but this was not the case.

Due to not hiring a car/scooter, it was 400 baht per way here via tuk tuk, and definitely not worth the trip.

Try the south end of Patong beach if you are staying there, as we found this to be nice and quiet compared to the rest of the beach.

“Still a great little Dive”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed March 10, 2013

I first came here in '84 when a little $1/night bungalo without hot water or a/c was all there was to find (and I am happy for that). The little reef right out there in the water was heaven and though the years haven't been kind to that reef with warming and tsunami and tourism I still found an hour of peace and a school of 100+ parrot fish just a walk and a swim off Kata. We stayed on Karon, but on my next trip back we will stay at some small guest house in Kata so I can swimm every morning.

“Not as beautiful as guidebooks say”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed March 10, 2013

Everywhere I read that Kata was the best beach and honestly I was a bit disappointed, the sand is not that fine. It's nice but that's it. We were touring the island but no need to come just for this.

“back after 10 years another place!”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed March 4, 2013

Travelling through south-est Asia and Thailand is always surprising so when we decided to go back to Kata beach after really a long time we expected changes but reality always beat expectations.Where once there was jungle and few resorts with wooden or concrete bungalows now you 'll find 3-4 storys buldings with many rooms to rent. The hills at both beach's ends are now cemented with villas or hotels. The beach is a long strip of umbrellas and deck chairs one attached to the other and during the really hot hours in the water, bathing is like being in a crowded and small swimming.pool.it's now a crowded family location with all amenities for them, being used to smaller islands where we can still find what Kata has lost completely we don't think we'll come back,But I must say I found a tiny little place off the main tracks and we have spent nice time there, didn't hear the crowd's noise and we slept at the sound of silence.Updating the news about the tourist's nationality now 60% russians followed by italians and scandinavians.
