“Pool access room is a must!”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed May 7, 2013 via mobile

We didn't book this hotel but had seen review on it prior to our stay in Phuket. We went there from the airport and they had pool access room for 2000bhat plus 1000 bhat for an extra person charge. We initially paid but within minutes we decided we wanted to stay at kata time that was next door for 700 baht per night. Unfortunately, palmery wouldn't refund us even though the transaction took place within minutes. Front desk male staff was very rude about it but the manager informed us that she could refund us 50% which we thought was ridiculous. She then told us to look at the room and then we did.. Everything changed at that point. Room was great and pool access sold us!

We negotiated a second night stay out of convenience for 2600 bhat.

Service was okay. Wifi was awesome. Location was great. About 10 mins walk to the beach. Breakfast was basic but good. If you do stay here, you must eat at red chair restaurant. Best Thai tea, best service and best Thai food. Most things on the menu was less than 70 bhat!

Overall, we had a rough start to our stay at palmery on kata beach but overall enjoyed it.

Positives first.
1. Great looking buildings and rooms. Pool on the doorstep (ours was private, not all are)
2. Breakfast was better than every other I have had in Thailand (never ready at stated time, so early starts can leave you hungry)
3. Staff are plentiful and smile (seem to be incapable of helping if not in job description) I.e when I asked for help with buying bus tickets I was told that any hotel could do it.... Surely this as an upmarket place would assist?
4. Cool looking bars around the grounds near pools

negatives
1. WiFi is really bad. 1/2 day to connect. Then all speeds are shocking. Worst I have (all over the grounds not just our apartment) experienced in all south east Asia. Not good enough given the price.
2. Restaurant is poor. Don't bother when there are so many great places nearby.
3. Location is poor if you don't have transport. If you do it is perfect (away from beach, close enough to get involved)
4. Staff are poor at English. Only seem to do job description, rather than assist (possibly a Thai trait).
5. Not all lights work in our apartment. Towel rack falling off. This could be cos recently built.
6. basically not value for money, until it is run as a place to satisfy customers. Then it will be great

We stayed at The Palmery for 4 nights at the beginning of travelling Thailand and we had a very enjoyable stay. The lady who checked us in was very helpful and since the hotel was busy on our first night we had a free upgrade to a Pool Access Room which was perfect for our needs. The room was spacious, clean and well presented, so much so that we decided to pay the extra 500b per night to keep it.

The staff at breakfast aren't great, they were all extremely polite but I had to ask multiple times for more items to be brought out for the buffet, they didn't seem overly enthusiastic about restocking!

When we tried to upgrade to the pool access room the first person we asked said we couldn't but after talking to the same woman who checked us in this was possible.

When we visited (April 2013) the spa and fitness centre have not yet been completed.

Although the resort has some problems, I would put this down to being new and hopefully they will be sorted out. At the price we paid, about 1500b a night it was excellent value for money.

Room Tip: We were upgraded to a pool access room and it was so nice we decided to pay the extra 500b (£12) to...

I booked one night at the Palmery Resort with the intention of checking it out before booking further nights - I was impressed enough to book a further 2 nights. The rate we paid (introductory rate offered exceptional value)

The first thing to point out is the hotel is a 10 minute walk to the centre of town - this was not an issue at all since we spent most of the day away from the hotel anyway. There are also plenty of restaurant options around the hotel, although we chose to take the short walk to town in the evenings - you could of course catch a Tuk Tuk. I would recommend the set menu at the Italian restaurant at the Kata Beach Resort hotel - excellent value and very good.

Initial impressions of the hotel were very good - it is obvious that the resort is new. Rooms were spacious and clean and decorated with tasteful modern decor. The air conditioning was effective and quiet (a common fault in hotels). The beds, although firm, were comfortable with crisp white bedding.

For the first night we stayed in the pool access room, and later moved to the cheaper pool view rooms (there were no pool access rooms available). The pool access rooms open directly onto a strip pool, whereas the pool access rooms don't have direct access to the pool, but do have balconies overlooking the pool. Otherwise the rooms are virtually identical. Wireless Internet was free and offered a good connection.

We enjoyed the included breakfast, which included a fair selection of hot Asian dishes as well as fruit and eggs cooked on request.

On the negative side: the fruit, bread etc was left uncovered which allowed flies to settle on the food - this could be easily rectified. On the last morning we got up early to go on a boat trip, but we had to wait for the food to be put out even though we arrived in the dining area 45 min after the breakfast start time.

We had a mixed experience with the front desk staff - on our arrival we were ignored while they continued with other tasks, which did not leave a good impression. However, after acknowledging our existence, the girl that showed us to our room was helpful and friendly.

On another occasion the girl at the front desk explained that she would have to take money off my credit card for the room, although I had paid already on hotels.com when I made the booking - when I took exception to this she became quite excitable.

Apart from these minor annoyances, we were very happy with our pleasant stay at the Palmery resort, we thought it offered exceptional value and would stay there again without hesitation. Kata beach we thought is a good location, offering a variety of restaurants and shops, nice beaches but without the craziness that is Patong.

Room Tip: Pool access rooms and pool view rooms virtually identical, except pool access rooms open directly on...

I've been to Phuket at least 5 times now and usually I would stay in patong because it had a bit of everything. This time I thought I would try Kata and although it is quieter than Patong, it had everything minus the shopping centres (if you're into that).

I booked this hotel because it had a pool access room within a reasonable price for a 4* hotel and it was in a quiet location but not too far to walk to kata (10 mins) or to kata noi (20 mins) beach. The room was very spacious and modern and I was impressed so far.

This place is called Palmery Resort and Spa, however the spa was not open yet and I believe from reading other reviews, the hotel opened in January 2013. I would have thought that it being April, the spa would have opened by now. The stars are given to a hotel, not only because of location and service but also facilities. So a 4* resort and spa hotel with no spa shouldn't be rating themselves as a 4*. The staff was a mixed bag. Some were friendly, some didn't bother smiling, most of them had nothing to do but play with their phones because it wasn't so busy. Overall I didn't quite feel the friendly Thai feeling as you would in Thailand. But if you want to relax by the pool and enjoy a bit of room service (the value and selection of food was good), this is the place to be.

The rooms are a good size, everything is new and works (internet, hot water etc.), there is a tuk tuk service to Kata beach which also does pick-ups. Most rooms have pool access, and it is great to be able to jump right in.

What is lacking is the service, particularly from the rather abrupt staff on the front desks. We booked a cot for our baby son before arrival. When we checked in we were informed it would only be available on the following day. And they never did provide it. Every day we had to request an extra towel for our baby, and when we had a babysitter come she was barred entry as the (undocumented) rule of the hotel is that you myst use their service. After 4 days we had to request the cleaner to do more than re-arrange the cushions and empty the bins. We got around all of this by being self-sufficient and had packed enough to get by ourselves.

For us, the hotel lacked soul. We have stayed in places with our son which were not as well equipped, but in which staff made us feel welcome and happy to be there. At Palmery we were made to feel like a constant inconvenience.

Room Tip: Rooms closer to the entrance have a lot less privacy than those at the back of the resort, particula...

We booked this hotel when we were in thailand and got an introductory price for 5 nights as it had only been open for a few months. The hotel is spotless and the rooms are really well decked out.
Because it's new they are still finding their feet with the food service etc but that will all be sorted in no time i have no doubt.
Breakfast was the standard buffett but they couldn't be more helpful when you asked them for anything.
We went for the no access directly tot he pool which suited us. We had the main pool right outside our balcony and pretty much had it to ourselves. This will be a really good hotel to stay in but i imagine there will be alot of Russians who will stay there. The whole of Kata is very Russian orientated.

Only downside to the room was that the air con is one of the loudest i have ever heard! small price to pay for a brilliant hotel though to be honest.

Room Tip: Pool access rooms: if you want the sun then i would go for the rooms near to the main pool. The poo...
