“dirty rooms”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed November 7, 2013 via mobile

Booked 3 nights here through a travel agency abroad and got a good price compared with all the online booking sites. first impression of the hotel was the amazing decor and layout of the hotel, felt authentic and staff seemed good. Scooter rentals at the hotel so didn't have to leave your passports with other rental places. Breakfast was tasty but quite basic nothing too special. Slow Wi-Fi in the lobby but not in the rooms. Walking by the pools were very cool but the rooms were gross, smelled of dampness and dirty bathrooms. The beds smelled of the people before you and had stains on the sheets. Although there didn't seem to be signs of bed bugs, my girlfriend got red itchy bumps after sleeping in the bed. Aside from the nasty rooms, the hotel is a very unique experience. Don't regret staying there but would not go back.

Band plays very loud music until 10pm very very annoying if trying to sleep. Pool is very nice and the view, rooms are ok.
Would be ok if you plan on staying out late every night. Stay somewhere else if you plan on sleeping before 10pm. Hotel has lots of Russians guests.
Air con in the room is old and seems doesn't perform too good

Great stay at Tropical Garden Resort, really can't fault a thing. Yes, there are lots of stairs but also lift facilities. Fantastic location right opposite the beach tucked into a stunning little corner of Kata beach. Did not want to leave and i will definately stay again next time i visit Phuket (hopefully in the very near future!) Thank you to all staff for making my stay in beautiful Kata wonerful!

We booked this resort hotel from reviews on line. Our overall experience was fine. Some things we noticed were
* all rooms were smoking rooms
* old style TV but with reasonable selection of international channels, only one sport channel
* average breakfast! watch you don't eat the bees in your salad, need to keep a guard on your meal if you go to get a second cup of coffee! Many birds in the dining area.
* pool area fine
* many steps to climb to units! May have to request easy access unit if required. There will not have a view.
*resort is becoming a little tired; sing plug mechanism and tap almost falling off in our unit
*excellent sea views from top units! These unit balconies are all close, hopefully you don't have noisy neighbours when trying to relax

For the Kata area near this resort, we had several observations
*less than 100 metres to a great beach
*walking to main shopping area is a serious safety issue as pedestrians must share the busy roadway with buses! motor cycles! tuk tuks, vans etc . No footpaths at all in places.
* tusk and taxis are expensive and appear to have price collaboration to keep prices high.
*Similar situation with local massage
*bus runs to Phuket Town every half hour for 35 baht.
*good restaurants beachside close by! Have a drink with the late Bob Marley.

Room Tip: Sea view rooms are good but require fitness for many steps

My other review was based on issues I had with the resort with my room. After reading my review they instantly sorted everything out.

The Hotels location was fantastic. Right by the beach and in a lively parts of Kata but also a short walk to the quieter side.

The hotel room was immaculate with a view of the beach and island worthy of a 5 star hotel (balcony was brilliant).

Staff were friendly and food was good (not great)

Pool bar drinks were terrible though (over sugared and bad mix)

All in all a very great hotel for a very reasonable price. I would stay there again in a heartbeat.

For study abroad this past summer, my friends and I who went on the trip stayed here for 4 weeks straight. Our rooms and beds were cleaned every night and the staff was very helpful and nice. The wifi in the far corner room above the pool did not get much reception, but we were in paradise, no need for much internet. The hotel is in a great location right across from the beautiful beach! BUT when crossing the street be careful because the roads are opposite and can not see around the corner of the speeding TukTuks and you look the wrong way! Breakfast was good, even having the same options every day for 4 weeks was not bad, lots of variety. The pool was great along with the pool bar to go with :)
The attached restaurant is good! The pad thai not the best in town, but the steak buffet is worth it!
Great location to other beaches like Patong to party, only a TukTuk away!

We stayed in the resort for 3 nights. It was really a great experience. One good thing was that we went in the off season. Got a good room in reasonable rate. A little disappointed by the view that they show in the management photographs, but other things cover it up. Break fast was good, with a lot of options. The restaurant is also good. Beach is just 100 meters away, across the road. Hotel staff was also helpful, but a few english speaking people in the staff would have been better.
Word of caution for the vegetarians and people preferring Indian food, Kata beach is not for you. Stay in Patong. Other than that, Kata is just awesome. Try exploring the night life in Kata, you will get some good deals around.

Would definitely visit again some time.

Room Tip: Do not leave your valuables around, even the flipflops! and Do not take rooms beyond 3rd floor. You...
