“Good hotel but would need room renovations”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 4 days ago NEW

We really liked the overall hotel but the rooms where not of a 4 star rating. They would need a refresh. View is great and still quiet sleep because higher up on the hill.

Location was good for us, close yet quiet.

I marked this hotel above average because the staff, great attitude and real customer focus.

The hotel is top of a very steep hill, which is quite a slog to get to if walking. The taxi drivers in Kata are bandits so be prepared to pay 200+ bht for the short ride up the hill.

Rooms are good at the hotel, second and third floors have the best views across the bay. Breakfast is a little hit and miss though the egg station was consistently good. The hotel is over 21s so not family orientated.

Downside is the hill and the locations to the main strip as the hotel is on one side of the bay.

Certainly would stay here again.

Great stay, rooms are great, we got one of the private jacuzzi rooms which was a real treat, we felt spoilt having a jacuzzi to ourselves. Bit of a walk up a hill from the beach, but so worth it. Staff are friendly.

3 of 5 stars Reviewed October 4, 2014

We spent four days here in October 2014. The hotel itself has very pleasant grounds and the room was perfectly fine ( we had a complimentary upgrade to a poolside room which was a nice touch.). Views from the pool had us looking over Kata Beach at night, with some (steep) steps leading down to the beach. Given the torrential rain for our last two days, we didn't leave the hotel and made full use of the DVD player in the room (as we'd brought lots of DVDs) and also the restaurant (food quality was incosistent - good some days, Ok other days - one dish we ordered on our first day tasted very different another day we ordered it

We used the poolside bar almost everyday during happy hour (4 to 5pm) and it was fun to watch the bartenders make the cocktails (although other people smoking next to us wasn't do fun)

Breakfast was Ok, with a chef also making egg dishes of your choice - mix of western & eastern food (although no bacon, much to the chagrin of my companion).

The hotel was never too busy and we often had the various pools to ourselves (even got some water volleyball practice in). Just to note the hotel website says it is adults only (not like that!) but there were children staying.

Good value for the money but a little out of town and the walk back up the steep hill was a killer. If you are looking for a quiet hotel away from the beach hubris with a nice pool,. this is the hotel for you.

The first thing that grabs your attention when you arrive at the Andaman Cannacia is the steep, steep hill up from the town. This is a very low gear hill and I was worried the taxi wouldn't make it, it did but only to conk out in the hotel car park. This hill is steep!

The bonus is that the views from the hotel overlooking the bay and the town below are quite spectacular. The downside is that the location means you cannot just decide to wander off, leaving and returning to the hotel has to be planned. A 'Free' shuttle service is available to the town but you really are at the mercy of the local tuk-tuk or taxi drivers to take you back. Seriously, after a nice lunch or dinner or after a couple of cold beers you do not want to attempt that hill. The minimum charge back is going to be 200 baht, they will try for as much as 400 but do not pay it!

The rooms at the Andaman are large and well maintained, a little up-date wouldn't hurt but they are fine. I had the Canna Suite with a large balcony and spectacular views.

The restaurant was fine although the food was a little 'dumbed down' from the Thai spicy to the tourist bland.

It was not the rooms, the view or even the hill that I was disappointed with nor was it the staff who were,in the main, very helpful and considerate. No, what is very annoying is the mercenary tactics from the management to glean every last baht from you.

Firstly, it is so irritating when the menu etc. does not include the total price you are expected to pay. Service charge and tax is added to the price. Secondly, there seems to be a culture of expectation when it comes to tipping among the staff. Even the 'Free' tuk-tuk. I could see the scowl on the face of the driver when someone got out without tipping.

The hotel wifi is a downright rip off. My holiday details stated 'free wifi', this it turns out is just for the foyer and restaurant area. It cost a further 1000 baht for 12 days to have wifi in my room which very rarely worked. I got better connection to the restaurant wifi while in my room than I did to the one I had paid for.

Lastly and most irritating of all is that the both the hotel website and the holiday company I booked through stated that this was an over eighteens hotel only. No kids! Brilliant for a bit of peace and quiet. Except that this is not the case. On several occasions both the pool and lobby areas were full of kids running amok, mostly the offspring of the large groups of Japanese tourists. This was irritating as I had booked this hotel specifically to get away from this type of noise. As the weather deteriorated the noise level increased and the corridor outside my room became more of a playground than a means of access to the rooms.

There is always an element of luck when choosing a hotel. No matter how many reviews you read or pictures you look and how ever much you study the on-line description you can never be certain. My policy is to expect the unexpected so as to avoid disappointment but I was genuinely aggrieved by some of the policies at this hotel, more so because this behavior is unnecessary. Show the prices including tax etc. the staff will benefit as people are more likely to tip. Reduce the ridiculous price for the wifi and stop advertising clear untruths!

In all fairness to the hotel this attitude is the norm in Phuket. Most things are about how to remove the baht from the tourists pocket by any means fair or foul. So it seems a little unfair to single out this hotels faults when they are no different that anywhere else in Phuket!

Back to Samui for me.

Room Tip: Do not bother with the expensive wifi. Test the free version in your room first. If this is no good...

Amazing stay! We had a blunder with loosing our credit card, staff were patient and understanding with us, we were late for b.fast a few times-no trouble staff were happy to help. Surroundings are beautiful authentic Thai, not a sterile western property. Pretty detailed decorations. Food great.the tours they sold us were top quality small tours. Very good housekeeping. Thank you Andaman Cannacia staff! We would come back!

Before stopping by Phuket for my 2 and half week vacation, I was most excited about Andaman Cannacia. However it was not up to my expectation, the resort is a scene from a rain forest; which means there was a lot of insects flying around. I couldn't open my sliding door for 2minutes without something flying into my room. Same issue to having breakfast in the morning, flies and insects pestering you while trying to enjoy a good breakfast. Perhaps I stayed at a low season which is the reason why it wasn't as pleasant. Despite these flaws, the staff are very pleasant and helpful. Also, I highly disagree that such a luxurious hotel would charge for use of WiFi.
