“A honeymoon indeed,”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed May 12, 2012

We opted for the honeymoon suite cos we wanted to enjoy ourselves without the kids. They have made our stay very memorable as they took care of all the details. Room 314 has a very excellent view with the pte jacuzzi. We were told that our room has the best view. It has a total seaview and city view. Our room was indeed very pte as being on corner unit and top floor, our verandah was uncovered so the jacuzzi makes it very romantic as we can enjoy gazing at the stars while dipping ourselves in. There were petals on our bed as well as in the jacuzzi.

The staff was also very attentive. Since our island trip was on the last day, they even allowed us to settle the bill after we came back from the trip. They even gave us towels for us to clean up at the spa since we have checked out from our room. Overall we are very happy with the hotel and service. We would recommend anyone who wants to stay in this hotel.

The only setback is the hotel is on a high slope. It is very tiring to climb the slope. For us,we only went down the slope once because we rented a motorbike for a few days at only 250baht per day.

This was our 1st time to Phuket and had no idea what to expect. We arrived at the hotel and immidiately felt at home, the reception staff were freindly and advised us accordingly. We booked into our room and found that the room had been booked by the pool instead of a sea view. I informed the staff and without any fuss, they booked us into the sea facing room the following day. This is really a top class resort, the staff were freindly and helpful, only thing is the service was a bit slow at dinner. The rooms were a perfect size, fully airconed and lovely sea view. It is a 5 min walk to the beach so it was not a problem for us, we walked "the hill" daily and every evening to town so it was not a problem. However I think if one has difficulty walking one could use the free transport offered to the beach by the hotel. Been fitnes freaks, the only issue we had was the gym was very small. The hotel also has a tour operator based at reception to plan your itinerary which was great. This was our best holiday ever and will be back!

Room Tip: Rather spend a little more and get a sea facing room

Pros

- Good value for money

- Resort is clean and fairly well set out

- Friendly staff; We had friendly and smiling staff in particular at the pool bar!

- Good included buffet breakfast

- Complementary resort shuttle to and from Kata beach
- The Deluxe rooms had a balcony (with a nice view of the resort and ocean)
- In a quite area of Kata
- Nice multilevel pool area with pool bar

Cons

- Some, but not all the staff, did not understand English well. It may be a little arrogant of me to expect people to speak English in a non-English speaking country, but in my mind unless you're are in South/Central America (yes there are exceptions), English has to be considered the universal language. I have stayed in many other Asian countries and here at this hotel is probably the poorest English comprehension from a resort I've experienced.

- The service at the hotel restaurant was friendly, however the meals were slow to come out and at times the floor staff were a little inattentive. We were the only table one night in the restaurant and it took the better part of 30 mins for a banana split and pre-made chocolate cake to come out. We also had another couple say that they struggled to get service from some of the staff, who seemed to be more interested in texting on their phones and watching TV then catering to the need or enquiry.

- Lack of attention by room cleaning staff. We had several issues that on their own weren't a big deal, but together started to irritate us somewhat. Things such as forget to replace towels and coffee in the room was just the beginning. We then had to deal with swarms of Mosquitoes in the room when we would come back some days, and we figured out that the staff were leaving the room door open during cleaning and letting the mosquitos in. (When we first got into the room after travelling through the day, we were met by an army of Mosquitos. It would have been nice for that to have be dealt with prior to us getting there). We also had a broken part on our shower that was never repaired. I had to pull the item off and place it on the edge of the shower before anything was done. We had room service one morning for breakfast and then left soon after for a tour. On arriving back to our room, we noticed our breakfast plates sitting on a tray outside our room, which was 9pm at night! This may not have been the responsibility of the room cleaning staff to take care of this, but obviously the message for someone to collect this stuff was never received. (or it was just forgotten).

- The room that we were in (Deluxe) was a little dated in my opinion, for a 4 star Resort.

- No free WiFi

- The Deluxe room balconies have 'day-beds' on them, which is a nice touch, but in our opinion is a little impractical for here. It regularly rains here at this time of the year (beginning of wetter season in April) and the day bed gets regularly soaked. We're not sure if it ever really dries out and therefore would surely be a breading ground for mould. Perhaps a table and chars would have been a better idea and enabled us to use the balcony area to it's full potential.

Stayed here with my fiancé in the honeymoon suite in March 2012 and we were amazed at just how poor the service was. One example of the bad service was when we went to the pool bar and asked the lady (Koe) for a bloody mary - she looked extremely put out and angry that we were asking her for anything (actually throwing the drink menu down). She then served up vodka with tomato juice - not exactly a bloody mary. Each time we went to the restaurant or bar we had a similar experience. This was disappointing given that the room was great and it spoiled what would otherwise be quite an enjoyable romantic experience for the two of us. Something to note is that not all the honeymoon suites have a view like the picture on the hotel website advertises.

The location of the resort is also pretty bad - being at the top of a really really steep hill. This wouldn't be a problem in itself except for the fact that if you don't want to walk up the hill, the taxi fair up is quite expensive. The hotel does have a bus but you have to time your journey up the hill as the bus doesn't run all that regularly - and stops quite early on in the night.

After deciding to stay in Kata Beach, we chose this hotel as it had good reviews. The hotel is on a hill on the edge of Kata, and is just a short walk to the beach and the town. The hotel runs a shuttle bus to the beach and to town, but we never managed to get it as it ran at funny times! However, one of the guys at the hotel did run us down to town for free one night when we asked to book a taxi, which was a good touch! The rooms were nice, and had a safe - which is always key! The only negative thing we can say about the hotel is the bar's pricing policy for drinks - they seemed to charge way over the menu price consistently, and while we didn't complain at the time, we didn't drink there again either. Overall, the hotel was good, and would definitely recommend it to anyone thinking of staying in Kata Beach.

Where to start....

We travelled here in a fairly large group for a wedding within the last month. The hotel grounds are stunning. The infamous hill is not really that bad - it's manageable and can be avoided by taxi or tuk tuk if necessary for a very small fee. The pool area and view of Kata beach are really amazing, most of the staff are friendly however they fell way short of the kind of service/experience you would expect from a hotel like this.

On arrival the rooms were not ready - there was no apology just an "oh well" kind of attitude. This was not appreciated after a 24 hour flight!! A couple of hours later it was discovered they had given another party in our group the honeymooners' room...complete with welcome basket etc - when pointed out to the hotel staff they claimed the rooms had been swapped by the guests themselves and not mixed up by them. The guests switched rooms after a discussion with the receiption staff only for the hotel to mix them up again the following day and present a honeymoon cake to the non-honeymoon couple. We could only laugh....

In all the hotel is not worth what we paid for it. The staff, while mostly friendly, were not overly keen on being helpful and we found it slightly annoying that on more than one occasion three people showed up at the door with room service or with towels we had needed to request as they had not been provided when the rooms were cleaned - all three expecting a tip of course.

The rooms are basic. There is nothing outstanding and we had to ask them to clean and make up an additional bed in one of the rooms despite requesting this be done on two previous occasions. The sheets and towels etc are pretty old and worn. Definitely not up to the standard you would expect. The beds are comfortable and the air conditioning cannot be faulted which given the temperature was greatly appreciated. However there are no nets or anything on the doors/windows so you cannot leave balcony doors open without being victim to the dreaded mosquito. This won't bother some travellers however for us it was an issue as we suffered fairly significant bites and reactions despite using repellent (thankfully there are a number of local pharmacies with inexpensive treatments for bite allergy). Also it is important to note that when the rooms are being cleaned/made up the staff leave the front doors open - not great if you want to avoid mosquitoes in your room. A couple of us were pretty badly bitten during the night.

The taxi drivers attached to the hotel were pretty good. Be wary of one or two of them who will try to overcharge, but mostly they were accommodating and helpful and willing to wait/come back to pick us up when asked. They didn't charge too much either. We took a taxi to see Big Buddha and were almost 4 hours there and back - our taxi driver picked us up, waited for us and dropped us back following a quick detour to see elephants and another temple and he charged 1200 Baht for this which we felt was extremely reasonable for four people.

Food was good - breakfast had a pretty good selection and there was a chef to make hot dishes in addition to what was already on offer (fruit, cereal, breads, toast, pancakes etc)

Now the thing that put me off completely was that despite our group (12 people) having stayed there for two weeks at a significant cost when you take into account rooms, tips, drinks and food at the hotel, upon check out they accused one of the guests of trying to avoid paying for a can of soft drink from the mini bar. This amounted to 40 Baht and had already been included in the hotel bill which was paid in full, however the staff member working that day (Aimi I believe was her name) was adamant that it would have to be paid for again. When the mini bar items are used, a staff member calls to your room the following day with a replacement and a receipt - the drink had not been replaced and the hotel was unable to provide a receipt. They then accused another guest of taking a small notepad from his room (150 Baht). He asked what he could possibly have wanted it for and couldn't even remember seeing it in his room but again they were adamant it would need to be paid for. As stated given the number of guests and the amount of money we paid to this hotel the idea that they would then try to get an additional < 200 Baht (approximately 5 euro) was completely off putting and refusing to pay really was a matter of principle. In the end the soft drink was let go as they could not prove it had been replaced but the notepad was paid for as we were in a hurry to get to the airport and really didn't have the time to deal with them. It left a bad taste in our mouths and infact one couple who had been planning to return there changed their plans.

**** VERY IMPORTANTLY - anyone in our group who paid by credit card had their name, address, credit card number and security code printed IN FULL on their receipt!!! Clearly no sense of data protection or concern about security from the Andaman Cannacia!!!!!

I completely agree with previous reviewers who have mentioned things like a lack of management staff - we did not see anyone in a managerial role until we had already checked out and there is definitely just "something missing" from this hotel.

I can honestly say there is no way I would stay here again and I can't imagine anyone who travelled in our group will either. Very disappointing....this hotel falls way short of the mark.

Room Tip: If you are going to stay here try to get a sea view room - the view of Kata Beach is genuinely stunn...

We stayed here by more by accident than by design, since we'd booked to stay at the Peach Hill, it's sister hotel, but they messed up the booking so we had to stay at the Cannacia for 3 nights instead. As a sweetener, we were upgraded to a Junior Suite. The suite was stunning, with polished wooden floors throughout, a living room, bedroom with a huge bed, and bathroom with a huge bath. There were two balconies, one off the living room, one off the bedroom, and both had large day beds, with stunning views overlooking Kata Beach. There was an in-room safe in one of the wardrobes. Breakfast was buffet-style in an airy restaurant with a refreshing breeze blowing through. There is a regular shuttle from the hotel to the beach, which then goes on to the Peach Hill hotel. The last shuttle back from the beach was 16:30, which I felt was a little early. The hotel has a couple of split level pools, again with views over Kata beach, but sunbed reserving was quite prevalent. I must say, that considering I didn't plan on staying here, I really enjoyed this hotel. But the suite was probably a deciding factor on reaching this opinion.
