Let me say that The Shore really is a superb property. Our villa, 8822, on Lobster Alley was perfect, just far enough up the hill to give us wonderful views across the bay, but low enough not to have to rely on the buggies (although we always jumped on if they were passing!).
This is one of the few properties where the villas really do look just like the website photos, exquisitely furnished - a huge comfy bed, lovely light bathroom and fab outdoor living area, not forgetting the gorgeous pool! We had sunlight on the pool and sala from about 10.30 in the morning, with full sun by midday. The trajectory of the sun meant that it never shone into the living area so it stayed relatively cool in comparison to the sala.
Our in villa breakfast on our first morning was a monster, it seems that they provide a bit of almost everything you can get at the buffet but it did mean a lot of waste as we only managed to chomp our way through a fraction of it. When they collect it they ask if you want to keep any of it so we kept the salads and ate them later.
Breakfast at the Harbor was just lovely, there was more than enough choice for us over 8 nights and the setting is beautiful. We didn't have lunch at all as breakfast kept us going until dinner, supplemented by the complimentary fruit in the room. We were always provided with at least 6 bottles of water a day as well which we really needed.
We had dinner there one evening, starters, main courses, bottle of wine and coffee came to just over £100, on a par with a decent restaurant in the UK. It was very nice, my OH said it was the best Tom Yum Goong he's ever had (and he is a connoisseur!).
The gardens were nice to relax in with a variety of chairs, sofas and beds, we had a couple of beers most afternoons and they are on offer during the day, only 70 baht for a Singha which for a resort of this calibre was very reasonable.
It was my birthday when we stayed and we came back to the villa to find the bed decorated and a lovely birthday cake with candles, which was lovely!
Now, the reason I would not give The Shore a full 5 stars is that I think it fell short on a few things that I would expect from such a high calibre resort:
1. No fresh milk in the fridge for tea and coffee, only powdered creamer!
2. Only 1 teabag each of breakfast, green and peppermint provided and not always replaced
3. No ice provided in room, or at turndown
OK they might be minor things, and they are all available if you call room service and ask - but I don't want to be always on the phone, I would like them to be provided without asking!
Having reread some previous reviews it seems that this has been mentioned previously but this has not been taken on board by the management - please take note!
All in all we had a pretty perfect holiday here and I would definitely recommend a stay here.
