“Refuge from the storm!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed September 2, 2012

Before heading to Thailand, my husband and I had researched alot of great hotels to stay in at Phuket for 6 nights and decided to book The Shore. The best decision we could have made. We have stayed in many 5 star hotels around the world including the Burj Al arab in Dubai and The Shore stacks up nicely. Highlights of our stay are the privacy, space and view of the Sea View Villas. The Shore has the friendliest proffessional staff, excellent room service and yummy buffet breakfast. The location of The Shore at Katathani was great, nice, quiet and close to the sea with excellent security at the entrance to the property.
We had a room that is located quite high up on the property so a nice steep climb up the stairs
gave us a daily workout although they do have shuttle buggies available for those extra hot days.
The hotel offers daily activites, Thai cooking and massage classes, yoga, and a library.
An extra bonus was having access to two neighbouring sister hotels widening our eating, beach and recreational options. The best of both worlds, privacy when we wanted it and affordable food and beach, market options from 5 other closely located restaurants.
We had a boating accident whilst staying at The Shore and ended up getting stranded on Phi Phi Island for the night. The Shore kept in touch with us while we were stranded and welcomed us back with warm smiles and a hug. I strongly recommend that you discuss any touring options with the Jim and Sylvia at reception!! Thank you to the manager of this wonderful hotel and to all the staff. The trip advisors recommendation to visit the elephants at Kata was brilliant.

Room Tip: Villa 8842

This hotel is possible one of the best that my wife and I have stayed. The room was massive with a plunge pool and very nice bathroom (which is a must for me). Staff was great and loved the golf buggy which took us from our room to the restaurant.

We stayed in Phuket on our last trip to Thailand for 3 nights only on our way home - just because we had to go because everyone goes... I don't think I will ever go to Phuket again because Thailand has so many beautiful places to see but this hotel was very very nice. The service wasn't the best but the room was very clean & I loved the decor & feel of this place. We had an amazing view & the sunsets were always perfect. All round it was a great hotel & a great stay. Thank you.

Spending 8 days here with my soon-to-be wife as part of our big Asian holiday.
The review is also based on our experience of visiting the best hotels on the island (Trisara, Andara, Banyan Treet, TwinPalms) and other top properties around the globe.
The hotel did not disappoint.
First, the pros.
1. The view is breathtaking which the hotel makes the best of
2. The ocean villas are very well designed, all have a superb view over the beach and facing west, so you can enjoy sunsets from your bed or your lounge or even your nicely done infinity pool
3. Villa 8823 has good privacy so you can not be bothered with anyone looking into
4. In-room breakfast (at no extra charge) is very good and efficiently done. The stuff even makes you cappuccinos (or allows you to do them yourself should you wish)
5. We liked the beach. Much more quiet and intimate than the 'main' Kata beach in the south.
6. Lobby/concierge service is excellent. Helped us to get the best agencies for the major attraction, never pushed us into anything really. The highlight of our vacation was the Elephant safari. Highly recommended both for kids and grown-ups.
7. Spa - good and very competitively priced (for a luxury hotel). You can of course get a massage for 1/5th of the price in the street, but we did not fancy that.
8. Room decoration. The staff is doing an amazing job. Cant praise them well enough. Candles, flowers, towels, etc. And they do it not just once but a few times during your stay. A big plus.
Now the cons.
1. The hotel restaurant. For some reason everything is just not right about it. Despite the expected high price we always felt like we were coming in between the working hours. The place seemed deserted, understaffed. The most efficient way of getting a snack was to go and grab a menu and then come to the bar and give an order to the bartender (that mixed good cocktails for his credit). Cant blame the staff though as they guys do try hard and we cant say a word bad about them, but the management needs to be addressed here.
2. Beach towels. I think the problem is the same is N1 as the main pool which is virtually on the beach is part of the restaurant area, so getting a beach towel has somehow has always been a problem.
3. A minor thing as it is generally a weather issue. We had a very big storm with heavy rain going for the whole night and a very small current that was going into the ocean just near the hotel became a wide river full of clay and dirt (hopefully nothing else) that made the usually beautiful bluemarine ocean brownish and not inviting for a swim.
The water got better by the sunset, so not a big issue but just worth noting if you coming in the low season and love beach and ocean.
Still, this was a great experience and we can certainly recommend the place to honeymooners and everyone else looking for chick and trendy yet very soft in design hotel especially if you like privacy and enjoying the company of each other. And please don't be concerned by the hight as electric buggies are always there to drive you to your villa.
Just book Mom's Tri Kitchen or the Boathouse for dinner. They even offer free transfer both ways and have a great (for Phuket) list of wines by glass.

Room Tip: Go for the top level rooms if you are fit, if not 8823 is great.

Dear Dmitry A
Thank you very much for taking the time to share your valuable feedback with us through
Trip Advisor.
I am glad I had the chance to meet you upon your check-out here at The Shore. Thank you once again for the good comments and chance to clarify about your mentioned Feedback.
I am very happy to hear that you enjoyed your overall stay with us. I also would like to thank you for the kind compliments towards our staff.
Your comments regarding the service at our restaurant and pool have been brought to the attention of relevant departments, and we will investigate those matters -- doing our best to improve service.

Please be assured that we’ve taken corrective measures to prevent such occurrences in the future.
Regarding the water in front of The Shore, as you already mentioned, it is rain water which runs down from the hill, and flows to the beach. It is difficult for us to control on rainy days.
We would look forward to the opportunity for welcoming you again soon!
Your Sincerely,
Sabina D.

Exactly as described, and then some. The Shore ocean view villa is a must. Private pool....plenty of space in the rooms...could not help but relax watching the sunset and waves just below....the staff were top notch....did not need anything that they had not already thought of. Rent a motor scooter and explore the area also....Kata Beach is pristine and well kept....many restaurants on the property worthy of a visit...really no complaints at all...try it, you wont regret it

After a long stressful few months at work back at home, a weekend gateway was long due. I have spent a lot of time researching on a place to go and have decided to stay The Shore in the end. It was perfect, exactly what I needed and beyond my expectations. It was so relaxing and the staff was wonderful. I had a few challenges with my reservation in the beginning, due to the fault of my travel agent but the team at The Shore was so helpful and understanding. Special thanks to Ms Sukanwa. I believe it was 100% occupancy both nights we were there but it didn't feel at all crowded. As every villa has its own pool, you will barely see other guests. Unlike the near by hotel, the pool area was packed. The rooms are very spacious, well designed and maintained, has a beach house feel to the place. Definitely stay at the Pool Villa with Ocean View, the ocean view makes all the difference. Our villa was on the first roll among other villas, which I highly recommend as it's closer to the ocean and less of a walk.

Room Tip: First Roll Room 8813 Pool Villa with Ocean View

There is nothing to complain about for this wonderful place. The staff, services, villas - immaculate. The view was breath-taking, waking up to the peaceful sound of waves rushing up to the shore (pun intended) started our day in the perfect note. For anyone who is looking for a romantic place to stay, it has to be this.

Slight down was when the DVD player was faulty. But the staff tried their best to solve it for us.

Room Tip: It has to be seasview to make it perfect.
