“Memorably awful after a month of travelling in SE Asia”
1 of 5 stars Reviewed April 4, 2013

Not sure how we ended up booking this place. It was our first night in Thailand, I had some work nearby, it was roughly in the price range we were looking at, and we didn't do much research.

A month later of traveling around SE Asia this place is still memorable. It was without a doubt the worst place we stayed: not the most basic, not even the dingiest, but least helpful, least welcoming, and least comfortable place.

First there isn't much reason to go Kata. It's dusty, with a depressed tourist vibe, and open sewage flowing down to the beach.

A few hilights of the Beach Boutique:

* when we asked the front desk to call us a cab, they were unable to, instead directing us 200m down the street to the taxi stand. On our first night in country in the middle of the night this alarming (without much cause), but over the next 24 hours it was merely puzzling, what kind of hotel can't flag a taxi?

* when in a jet lagged state I tried to kill the giant cockroach I found in the bathroom with the nearest hard object, and I ended up shattering the complimentary glass water bottle the front desk's response was not to offer to send a maid, or even a broom, or be concerned about the presence of cockroaches in their bathroom but to inform me they would be charging us for the cost of the bottle.

* as we were leaving we booked a fast ferry to Koh Phi Phi (also probably better to avoid), and when we asked the front desk for logistical help in getting to the ferry, again they were not only unable to help arrange a transfer, they sent us to the wrong ferry terminal. (thankfully amazingly friendly and competent folks at the ferry terminal put us back in a taxi, sent us to the right dock, and called ahead and had our boat wait for us)

* but the real coup de grace of this place was around 1am (after having found a broom and swept up the glass, and eventually smashing the two giant cockroaches) we were laying in bed and it sounded like someone was taking a shower in the bathroom. I was exhausted and inclined to ignore this, but my wife prompted me to go look, and what I found was a steady stream of water pouring out of the light socket. After spending a while on the phone trying to explain this to the front desk, and then hiking our way through the weird condo-burbclave-walled tourist community in which this hotel is located up to the front desk I eventually explained to them the problem. About 30 minutes later someone showed up, banged around for 20 or 30 minutes, then turned off the water to our room (and possibly the whole wing) and told us, "Don't go in the bathroom, not safe, roof might fall, engineer will come in the morning." At which point I expected that maybe we'd get switched to another room, or you know some acknowledgement that running water (but not from the ceiling) was included in the price and be given a discount (maybe just the cost of the broken water bottle), but nothing so much as an apology or an acknowledgement of the inconvenience. The repair man showed up about 8am and started tearing apart the bathroom, we were never able to take a shower or use the toilet and eventually checked out.

The Ibis nearby is a perfectly nice hotel in roughly the same price range (though it doesn't include the questionable free breakfast), so if you have to go to this town for some reason, try there.

My wife and some friends and I stayed here on a trip to Thailand and had a great time. It's a clean, beautiful hotel with stylish interior decor. It's close to the ocean, Kata beach, a nice spot. The staff was courteous and pleasant as I recall. We look forward to our next trip to Phuket and plan to stay again at this hotel.

My husband and I stayed here for one night. We ate at the restaurant and couldn't believe how amazing the staff was. The service was on point and staff was very friendly. We are very impressed and wanted to let everyone know how wonderful this hotel is. The rooms are very clean as the location is fantastic; close to beach and shopping.
Keep up the great service :-)

We stayed superior room for 4 nights from year-end and new year. you can not expect room width. two beds and fridge, that's all in a room. hot shower exactly works but poor. there is no amenities besides shampoo and hand soap. hair dryer doesn't placed. maybe you can rend it at front desk though. we experienced black out in a room for an hour. after let them know it, they fixed it within an hour. I recommend you to make sure where is the emergency light. most big problem is door to the deck doesn't enough sealed. I guess A/C doesn't work enough due to this reason and party sounds from outside doesn't be shut out. so, I have to say that room doesn't good enough. breakfast: no problem. tastes no problem but you might feel kind of foods doesn't good enough. place is 2nd floor in the next building. location: 10 mins walk to kata beach with short cut along dirty stream. restaurant around the hotel. stores as well. travel desk: friendly mom provides 125cc motorbike for 250B per day. tips: staff provides us beach towel at the lobby.
if you want to rend a motorbike, make sure any damage before get ride. I recommend you compare with several shops. if you want big bike, you need to get pathong beach or 1km ahead to kalon on the Main Street. I saw there is a shop provides big bikes. there are lots of laundry shops around. you can get them your laundries for 50B per 1kg. thai massage: khun nom massage & salon is placed along ket kwan Rd across the street from sawasdee village provides good massage and laundry service. open everyday 9am to 11:30pm. thai massage 1 hr for 300B with chip. price may be changed. check the price before get inside.

We stayed here 5 nights and it was excellent. Staff were fantastic and facilities were great with everything you'd require available. The only slight issue was there were a few ants in the room but nothing major unless you leave food laying around.

Good location as it is situated slightly of the main strip of Kata and only a short trip from Karon (5min) and Patong (20min) by Tuk-Tuk. It's also walking distance (10mins) from Kata Beach which a great beach, some may complain that you need to walk past a canal on the way but it isn't too bad really.

Breakfast was average but enough to keep you going for the morning and with plenty of places to eat around it there are always alternatives if you choose not to have that breakfast. Also we really enjoyed the bar near the foyer as they served very good drinks especially long island ice teas which were only THB170 during happy hour.

The other facilities were great too like the pool and we really enjoyed the Thai Massages from the two lovely ladies who do the massage and pedicures etc for the girls. It's also worthwhile to try dip your feet in water and feed the fish.

The airport transports were also great as they arranged pickup and dropoff for us to the airport however if you're looking at using this service, notify them a few days in advance or else there is little chance you'll get one on the day.

Overall highly recommend The Beach Boutique House and would definitely stay here again at my next return to Phuket.
