“So much more than a 'B and B'”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed July 30, 2012

We had The Old House chosen for us as we stayed here for just a night at the start of a four-day walking holiday on the (excellent and picturesque) Coleridge Way and we could not have had a more perfect start. Our welcome was warm and the rooms were wonderful, with the absolute highlight being the Coleridge Room - a colossal and beautiful double room (far larger than many 'family' rooms that we have stayed in). The house is lovely to look at and the garden is delightful. The selection of food at breakfast was the best that we had on our holiday and everything was well prepared. To call 'The Old House' a bed and breakfast is a bit like calling Buckingham Palace 'a nice house in London' - it is so much more that the phrase leads one to expect and we definitely plan to return.

Room Tip: Bag the Coleridge Room if you can (the poet himself has been there and it is truly splendid) but all...

My husband and I stayed in the Coleridge suite for two nights after our wedding, we were so happy with the beautiful room and we were greeted with a congratulations card on the table. Ann and Manor are two of the nicest people I have ever met and were born to be in the BnB business. The breakfast was very well put together and was soooooo tasty. I could go on and on about how great this place is, you will not be disappointed.

Who'd have faceless hotels when you can have individuality, character, charm, delicious breakfasts and welcoming hosts in Coleridge's poetic home village? Delighted with this nooks-and-crannies 18th century house in quaint village, right on the high street, well placed for coast, country and moor (just moments from the A39). I stayed with my mother in the twin-bedded Sarah's room (the plush Coleridge suite is a double). Fresh, light, spacious, high ceiling, pink and pretty with neat ensuite shower and all the trimmings you need. Ann and Manor very helpful at finding destinations and diversions for our few days (recommend Hestercombe gardens and Tarr steps on Exmoor). Idyllic walled garden perfect place to forget the rat race and think poetic thoughts ...

This is probably the best B&B I have ever stayed in. The house is a lovely property and the walled garden is simply superb.

We were lucky with the weather and able to take advantage of the garden which is a peaceful place to relax with a newspaper or simply sit and listen to the birdsong.

We stayed in the Coleridge suite which is huge and very well equipped. Breakfast is delicious and plentiful - we felt well set up for days of sightseeing. Manor was also very helpful when it came to choosing places to eat at night and kindly booked a table for us on the Saturday to save us the trouble. He and Ann are very welcoming and we will be recommending this place to friends.

Room Tip: Get the Coleridge Suite if you can

We have just come back from staying for one night at The Old House and would like to say what a wonderful place it is. Both Ann and Manor made our family feel very welcome and looked after us extremely well. We would thoroughly recommend this B & B to anyone! The rooms were excellent, the beds comfortable and the decor beautiful. This is a charming and intriguing property that has been immaculately maintained to the highest standard. The highlight of our stay definitely had to be the breakfast - it was marvellous! Local produce, fresh fruit and beautifully cooked full english. We would definitely stay there again and look forward to going back one day. Thank you both Ann and Manor. The Newsoms

I stayed in The Old House with my husband and another couple for a relaxing long weekend. Our room (the coleridge suite) was so lovely. The bed was enormous and so comfortable. The breakfast was delicious (lovely local muesli, honey, fruit and cooked breakfast). The owners gave us lots of great recommendations for local restaurants and attractions (which is a service you don't quite get in hotels really).
