What a charm. A history of a poets life and life as it was in in the 18th century. Its well worth a visit to those who love the English language and History.

“Wonderful visit”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed October 12, 2012

Manages to capture what it must have been like when Coleridge and his family stayed here. Fab cake and coffee on a very hostile day. The guides were informative and welcoming. I loved the comfy lounge to sit and listen and read more about Coleridge.

“Must see attraction”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed October 10, 2012

We visited this lovely cottage on our way back from holiday and are glad that we did. On entering you are immediately taken back to the late 1800s such is the reality of the cottage. We were greeted by a very friendly volunteer who gave us a brief outline of what was on offer here and a history lesson on Samuel Coleridge. We were then directed to each individual room where there is a volunteer in every room to tell you the story of what went on during Coleridges time there. You are encouraged to touch the items and are even allowed to dress in clothes of the period if you so wish to make you feel more of the part. Whilst the cottage looks quite tiny from the outside we were really surprised at how big it actually is and how it has been made to look as good as it does. In the upstairs rooms you are encouraged to write with a quill and your work can then be displayed on the board and there are also numerous readings which you can listen to via a headset. The gardens are kept in the style that they were in Coleridges day but is well worth a look around as is the well in the rear garden and even the toilet. There is a lovely little tea shop there and also a shop which sells books, preserves etc etc which appears to have something for everyones price range. Our visit lasted approximately one hour although you could make it last an awful lot longer if you took advantage of listening to the readings. Unfortunately, we only had a limited period of time but we will definately be making a return visit really soon to have a more indepth look. A big congratulations to the National Trust for making this a worth while attraction to visit.

“So interesting!”

Lovely helpful people in all the rooms to tell you about Coleridge, his family, and the house and surrounding area. Takes you back in time to how Nether Stowey used to be you really get the feel! Nice little shop in there and I can reccomend the jar of Marmalade they sell.
