***Note to Trip Advisor - there appear to be two listings for this establishment, this one and one for the hotel. They are the same place.*** Review follows:
Having looked at the hotel's web site I thought this would be a good place to take our friends as a thank you. I left disappointed. There was nothing you could complain about but the ambience just wasn't there. The restaurant, described as 'spacious' on the web site, is a huge area - it's a good space for a wedding reception but too big for a cosy dinner. The serried ranks of tables needed covering with table cloths or taken away for re-varnishing/polishing - too far gone for a cleaner to fix! The place needs an interior designer to give it a once-over.
Service was OK. The waitress didn't know which beers were available nor did she know what specials were on offer - the blackboard was so far away you needed binoculars (no exaggeration!). I went and took a photo so we could choose. The bottle of wine was delivered to the table opened and we were left to serve ourselves.
Food choice was very good and reasonably priced (3 courses al la carte, 1 round of drinks and a bottle of wine for £25 per person). Food was tasty and well presented - the puddings especially so.
If I went again, I'd probably eat in the pub area for a better atmosphere. If you want to go somewhere special, this isn't the place to pick. If you want a well-cooked and reasonably-priced meal it's fine.
