“Not as great as our first visit”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed June 24, 2014

We had a wonderful stopover here 2 years ago and were eagerly anticipating our return visit. The Chateau is beautiful and the garden stunning and the the welcome warm. However service was very slow for our pre-dinner drinks on the terrace. We upgraded to the Menu de Marquis (110Euros) but although my husband was less critical, I was disappointed overall with the food which I felt had some ill conceived combinations. The lobster was delicious for example but I felt did not work at all with the tabbouleh, the lemon sorbet was at odds with the creamy caramel it accompanied. I also felt that the food was just over salted. We wanted local wine by the glass, so we could have white and red but not one glass with each course as we had a long drive the following day. The sommelier was quite dismissive and suggested a half bottle instead which was not really the point. We were also quite ignored when our glasses needed refilling. Overall the service was decidedly lacking, there were several staff but some only seemed to be allowed to carry out specific tasks which seemed inefficient. Maybe wee were just unlucky but we did wonder also whether the World Cup game (France were playing that night) was providing a distraction in the kitchen.

We enjoyed our visit very much; our room was adequate but had very little drawer space, bath was adequate as well, all very clean and neat. I would can this a high level bed and breakfast experience. Breakfasts were pleasant with great breads and eggs as you wished them. They have a restaurant in the hotel, and a bistro down the road. The food and wine were great so different from what one might expect in such a small town. Walking down to the river and around the grounds was extremely pleasant, and patio was great for coffees, and coctails. But then we had almost prefect weather in April. Since we left the hotel each morniing for tours and returned for dinners, we are not sure what other activities are available. Our one bit of excitement was when a wild pig came out on the road back from the Bistro and folllowed us for a whileon our short walk back to the hotel. We were told it was rare to see them; this very large lady must have been out looking for a fresh drink of water on a pleasant warm spring evening.

Room Tip: We had a nice end corner room on the top floor with windows on both sides looking out at the out bui...

We have stayed here our times on our way to Austria to ski, it is an ideal stop in our journey. The staff are welcoming and we usually receive an upgrade in low season. There is a roaring fire in the guest sitting room adorned with English hunting prints. The menu is excellent in the restaurant, which was beautifully decorated for Christmas. Parking is secure so no need to unload luggage, an important consideration when travelling. Breakfast is included in the room price and is consistently delicious. Free wifi. My only critique is the size of the bath tub, extremely narrow.

The hotel-restaurant is outstanding in most aspects, but, critically, is let down by a few, deteriorating the overall experience.
Splendid building, park and interior décor. Attractive, very pleasant Standard Supérieure room, with a nice view. Good service. Excellent breakfast.
On the other hand, no bath mat, and a few other minor faults in the room : narrow bath-shower, sending a lot of water into the rest of the bathroom; wash basin´s sink stopper does not work; dripping tap; amazingly small cupboards. And unequal quality in the restaurant (reviewed seperately).
Would I return or recommend it? Maybe, but would first look for alternatives.

We have just returned from our second stay this year with this hotel. I think that this speaks for itself.
This is one of the few hotels that we have experienced, that takes service to its customers seriously. From the champagne waiting for us in our room, to the exquisite choice of wines for each individual course of the evening meal, everything is delivered with style and efficiency. Perfectly clean rooms, plenty of fresh towels always available, wonderfully quite environment, they continue to pay serious attention to every detail.
They even break with the traditional French “hospitality” approach and are prepared to converse in English.
Unfortunately our travel plans did not allow for a more that one night stay, but nevertheless we were treated as valued clients by every one of the staff.
As I have said in previous reviews, we highly recommend this hotel, but please do not book it up so much that we are unable to stay in the future.

Room Tip: We have yet to be given a room that we did not like. They are all good.

Our second visit to this wonderful hotel, this time with our daughters to celebrate my birthday.
We received a warm welcome on arrival and the girls were delighted to have an upgrade and were very impressed with their room.
We made full use of the lovely natural pool and enjoyed a lovely, relaxing afternoon.
The gardens are beautiful and we enjoyed an aperitif of the local cremant and some delicious nibbles. We ate on the terrace and had an absolutely fabulous meal. Each course was so well presented and delicious and the service outstanding (very professional yet friendly). The sommelier was excellent and we thoroughly enjoyed all his recommendations. The breakfast on the terrace was really enjoyable and we all agreed it was a fantastic experience and a really special place. I can’t wait to go back.
