“Still the best”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed September 19, 2012

Yet again, we have returned to Chateau de Germigney. We have been going there for over six years now. Everything about the hotel oozes class and the service is so effortless. Yet again we hesitate in giving a glowing review, because we know that we are only making it more difficult for us to book in the future, but this hotel continues to deliver over and above expectations.
A quite haven to escape away to. We will be back.

Room Tip: All the rooms that we have stayed in are perfect.

As every year for the past ten or so years we spent two nights at le Château Germigney. My husband and I like to walk and hike in the surrounding woods. So one morning we took off for a hike of about three hours with our dog. Unfortunately we forgot our hiking map at home, but as we had made this hike before, we felt sure that there would be no problem. Well, the weather was wonderful, walking in the woods great and relaxing. This until we realized, that we were completley lost. Somehow we found a street and walked to the next village, which took some time and was not pleasant. The worst thing for me was, that we had a reservation at the Château for lunch and I was already very hungry. From afar we suddenly saw a taxi on the street but it was out of reach for us. The village we came across was deserted and nobody there to ask for directions. So we called the hotel and asked whether they could order a taxi for us? After some time waiting a car came and Mrs. Baert herself rescued us! At 1 pm we sat at the table and consoled ourselves with a glass of champagne.

As you can see, the service at the château is really outstanding. Monsieur Laperosa, the headwaiter we know and like for many years, rolled his eyes at us and said "A taxi? We are not in St. Tropez here… " We had a lot to laugh about it.

We already booked for next year and programmed the number of two taxi services in the area. And we will bring the hiking map as well.

Said all this not to be forgotten: The food, the hotel, the staff were as great as ever.

This is a truly wonderful experience in the Jura Region of France. The Chateau is set in its own park with an amazing natural swimming pool. The greeting was warm and we were shown to our Standard Room which we immediately loved. We had originally asked for a Superior room but there were none available and on arrival were told we could have a Junior Suite at a reduced rate as they had a cancellation but the Standard Room was perfect and probably our choice for our next visit, and there will be a next visit. The decor throughout the establishment is very tastefully done with every attention to detail. I could not fault them on anything in the room except that the shower was not the best when put on its wall support. The bed was extremely comfortable with crisp white sheets, down duvet and pillows. Plenty of towels and two bathrobes as well as a bag with towels to take the pool if required. The air-conditioning worked perfectly, ample hangers in the cupboard and a view over the park and beautiful hills surrounding the property.

The dining room was superbly decorated, as were the lounge and bar, however dinner was on the terrace as it was a warm summer evening. When the sun went down and it started to cool the staff came out with blankets/shawls for anyone who needed them. I think this hotel will also be lovely to visit in the colder weather, with a fire burning in the lounge and dinner inside the restaurant.

The food? ah the Food..... amazingly delicious. We had lobster ravioli done with a Vin Jaune butter sauce (the yellow wine of the Jura region) and then a whole St. Pierre fish between the two of us. Next time we are going to have their speciality of Poulet de bresse done in a Vin Jaune sauce - but you have to order it in advance as the oven can only take two of the large tureens that the chickens are cooked in. The service was charming and the staff throughout the hotel did everything with a smile. Breakfast on the terrace was excellent as well.

The village is lovely and the hotel owns a bistro down by the river.

Room Tip: There are rooms in the roof which probably have lower ceilings so is you want a Standard room I woul...

It's a nice hotel for when you're in the neighbourhood. I actually understood it is the best hotel in the besancon area. However, I wouldn't go there just for the hotel. People are nice but the service is not top class. The restaurant was ok but not what you would expect at a relais&chateaux hotel. Service in the restaurant left to be desired and the food was average.

The garden is nice and so is the naturally filtrated pool. But you can't really swim in it in a sportive way as you will kick up too many algae.

So all in all a pleasant experience but I wouldn't go there again just for the pleasure of staying in the hotel.

We are rarely disappointed by Relais and Chateaux hotels, though we have found that some of them have amazing rooms and facilities but a restaurant that's not quite as good, or the contrary. Chateau de Germigney is one of the rare exceptions, where everything is truly outstanding. It's easy to feel truly at home there. The staff is friendly and welcoming, yet "correct" in the European style without being stuffy. Our suite (#16) was absolutely charming, well-appointed, and had a beautiful view onto the park in back. On the chilly two days that we visited, a fragrant wood fire burned in the salon, which was the perfect place for a digestif and mignardises after dinner. The restaurant is a real gem. Not one thing we ate or drank disappointed. Langoustine ravioli and the St. Pierre (John Dory) for two with lightly smoked vegetables were two of the things we loved the most, though it is hard to pick favorites when everything was so good. The selection of local cheeses and wines is excellent; be sure to try the aged Comté with a glass of vin jaune, or a local savagnin with fish. I hated to leave the Chateau and look forward to returning.

We recently spent two nights at this little jewel of a property with our two children. As with most Relais and Chateaux properties, we were treated like royalty from the minute we walked in the door. The staff could not do enough for us and the restaurant was absolutely delicious- very much merits its Michelin star.
The decor is updated and stylish while still retaining the country chateau ambiance. We enjoyed lounging by the enormous fireplace, strolling the grounds and playing the giant chess game outside. The second evening, we were not up for as large a meal as the first night so the personnel recommended the nearby Bistro de Port Lesney which is also owned by the hotel and was quite good as well. It made for a lovely break on our way up skiing and we wished we could have stayed longer.

Well, we just wanted to spoil ourselves on the way home and planned a stop in the Jura region, why there ? We were looking for a good Restaurant and Hotel combination.
So here we are driving on small roads to our hidden Hotel. Lovely suprise, it had lots of x-mas lights on teh outside and looked inviting.
The reception was friendly and informative. Our corner-room had a 4 poster bed, view to the parc and bathroom with window. Comfortable and good interior design.
We explored the parc which has a natural swimming pool, you and the waterplants ! Old and big trees and plces for drinks/coffee etc when the weather permits, which was not the case.
The Hotel and Restaurant have a beautiful atmosphere of gone by times.
The Restaurant, very good and excellent service. We enjoyed our brief stay.
